New: FGN: Vanguard Squadron (free, open-ended, email, human, space, rpg) From: lindahl@pbm.com (Greg Lindahl) Date: Wed, 16 May 2001 07:13:01 +0000 Name: FGN: Vanguard Squadron Email: vanguard-co@the-fgn.org Type: Star Trek PBEM URL: http://www.the-fgn.org/games/vanguard/ Costs: Free Last-Update: 2001May09 Keywords: free, open-ended, email, human, space, rpg Description: When the strengths and relative merits of different Play By eMail games are discussed, one topic which players of the Federation Gaming Network (FGN) often mention is the cohesive nature of their game. Many of them feel that the common timeline; the ability to transfer between ships and stations while retaining the same character, the same rank; and the sense of community that has been carefully nurtured are all among the strengths of this unique set of games. Now, Vanguard Squadron -- a division of the FGN which includes the ships USS Vanguard, USS McCoy, USS Relentless, USS Ark Royal, as well as the stations Starbase 968 and Deep Space Gamma One -- is engaging in an exercise which takes advantage of those strengths, while it binds the participants even more closely to each other. In the future world imagined by the FGN, the Gamma Quadrant lies open to exploration by the Federation and its allies. On one side of the Bajoran wormhole, Starbase 968 stands where once Deep Space Nine guarded. On the other side, Deep Space Gamma One supports bold explorers going where none have gone before. In that void, however, something sinister has occured. A Federation Captain with a long and honorable record has begun a war against Klingon and Romulan explorers, shooting first, without pausing to ask questions afterwards. The seeming madness spreads among all the Federation ships in the quadrant, while the Klingons and Romulans begin to fight back... and fight against each other. These acts cause tensions back home, and Star Fleet's finest -- the ships of Vanguard Squadron -- are dispatched to the scene. What will they find? How can they stop the fighting, and prevent all-out war from spreading across the galaxy? If you'd like a hand in deciding the outcome, Vanguard Squadron is currently accepting new members. Simply go to the FGN: Vanguard Squadron homepage at http://www.the-fgn.org/games/vanguard/ and join. The future awaits. Resistance is not futile. [ This is a new entry for the PBM List.
