New: En Maguarde! (free-moderation, open-ended, email, human, fantasy, rpg) From: lindahl@pbm.com (Greg Lindahl) Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 07:13:01 +0000 Name: En Maguarde! Email: m.l.collins@ntlworld.com Frequency: Fortnightly Type: En Garde! variant Costs: Free Last-Update: 2001May04 Keywords: free-moderation, open-ended, email, human, fantasy, rpg Description: BACKGROUND In this alternative En Garde! players need not have, but would be at a little advantage to have the rules to compliment the House Rules. The lives of characters revolve around wizardry guilds. They cannot live without the world around them who in turn largely attempt to ignore the Guilds. However the two find uses in working together in various ways. There are two types of character from which a player may choose to play one: Wizards Who have no time for women and instead pretend a love for poverty but they certainly have a love for power. They need the Grunts to help them survive whom they believe they have utmost control over. Holding contrary to this opinion are the Grunts Who have a love for wine, women and song: Songs of their great deeds in adventure, a promise for magic they themselves cannot create and a goal to self serve their destiny in keeping with Wizards as they rise through the Guilds to the promise of Arcadia. They are aware the need the Wizards have of them, and so enjoy a large amount of freedom. The dream of all Guildsfolk is to ultimately move on from the current lands of EnGarde into Arcadia. The wizardry guilds have connections with the Fay folk, and the Fay, in turn, desire to grant special mortals their life-styles possibly forever, possibly until Judgement Day. Whatever, some things in Arcadia may only be done by natural mortals and their purpose is the extent of invite. Naturally some characters will be legible to move into Arcadia at some time, but desire to delay the destiny which others might take umbrage to - and that is within the realms of this campaign. To hope to be voted, or hope to vote another, into Arcadia requires that the candidate be of a Prestige Level (PL) of 21+. The Grunts and Wizards work toward the goal in hot and cold heats. To hope to arrive at PL21 a character must rise through the Guilds guarding against friends and enemies alike as each institution has its own sets of values and prestige. If the game interests you please join: Enmaguarde@egroups.co.uk and peruse the rules. When you let me know you want to join the game, please state a preference for character class and a name suited to fantasy that may also be a mild double-entendre in the spirit of En Garde!
