This game is centered around the continent of Europe during the pre-World War I era. The players, at the outset, each select a single country that they shall "control". However, no player can completely control his selected nation. Rather, he/she plays the role of that country's leader at the of the game setting (which in this case is Europe 1910) and may not have control of their country's other branches. Only the executive position of power falls under their ultimate authority. Countries currently available include the following: Belgium Bulgaria Denmark Rumania Portugal Once each player has chosen his/her respective nation, whose executive they shall roleplay, they commence play of the game on the given game date. The game runs regularly every day, every hour. However, the player only needs to actually play for however long he/she wishes. All other actions that the particular leader does are completely assumed and do not have to be dictated by the player on an hourly basis. Events are then bound to occur within the context of the game (wars, assassinations, historical events, etc.) The player may then choose whether or not to respond to these events in any manner he/she chooses within reason, realistic historical background and so on. The game itself begins on a given game date, with all history previous to that date remaining exactly the same for the purposes of the game. But, from the time the game begins all future history may be changed and rewritten, within reasonable and realistic boundaries, as dictated by the players' major landmark decisions and policies. At any particular time, a player's "character" (the leader of the country he/she has selected) shall receive a News Bulletin or Report, or a State Report.* These messages keep the players well informed of events that are occurring within the context of the game. The players may then choose to respond to this Bulletin if it pertains to them by giving orders, asking their advisors for advice, etc. Then the Game Master or Moderator applies these player actions to the game as it is being played in order to determine the outcome. The game itself has very few rules other than the need for players to accurately play the roles of their respective nations realistically. Thus, it is recommended that the players have a good knowledge and familiarity with European and perhaps even World History before they actually begin play. *News Bulletins or Reports are posted here in the discussion group. State Reports are sent to each player individually via e-mail. The game is played via both e-mail and postings to this message board system. News Reports, public statements from NPC nations, and year ending timelines will be posted here at all times. Players may then post messages pertaining to these News Reports that are essentially statements on policy, foreign affairs, and speeches. Players may also choose to post messages ranging from a condemnation of another country's action to the announcement that a fleet or army is moving to a new location or that a particular territory has been annexed. Other players may then respond to these postings via private e-mail to the original player or via public statement. An Example: News Bulletin: Germany Announces Issuing of Harmonicas to All Soldiers Dateline: Berlin March 23, 1912 In a shocking announcement German officials have stated that on direct order of the Kaiser Germany will deploy harmonicas to the Front. All German... UK Player Posts: The United Kingdom Condemns This Unilateral Action of Germany From Ministry of Foreign Affairs, London: This action by Germany to unilaterally deploy highly annoying harmonicas to the Front Line can only lead to an escalation of this conflict beyond its present scope. We encourage that Germany reconsider this action ..... And so on. In past games there have also been live Internet chat sessions between allies or live moderated peace conferences between belligerent powers, not always moderated by the GM. Public and private interactions between players is an integral part of this game. Both players must send me an e-mail containing all the clauses of the treaty. They must specify both secret and open clauses. If the treaties do not match (outside of simple semantics or spelling errors), they will not be considered signed. Part of the reason why I decided to use yahoo to host this game is because of the built in chat capability which could be used to hold conferences and negotiations. If there are any specific requests for the chat room I can schedule them for players. OLD TREATIES: Many nations have secret treaties or clauses signed previous to 1910 which we now know about. These are considered to be active and secret for the purposes of simulating popular support and citizen reaction. However anyone can look up the treaties online or in history books. It will be up to the nations involved to either continue with or disband the treaties or secret clauses. I will not go into detail here, however if you have any questions about your governments standings please e-mail the GM at red_mage_king@yahoo.com The Game will start June 21, 2001 Thank you.
