His Highness has commanded me, Laurence DeVille, royal scribe, to produce and circulate this missive, that each of you shall know the news of the land, in full and in truth, as brought to you by his Royal command. JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS -- Duke David, Regent of the Kingdom of Tredach, leaves the Kingdom tomorrow on a mission that is both extremely dangerous and historic. Following the discovery that the King's death came about due to an ancient curse on the line of Tredach, researchers on behalf of our royal house have deemed it vital that the curse which has existed upon the royal line since the Time of Thunder must be ended now, or risk disaster! The King, it seems, died 'before his time' due to a pact with Death itself which was made to save the Kingdom during the Time of Thunder. Following consultation with sages, mages and Necromancers, most notably Tarek Bonemaster the leader of the guild of Necromancers and master of the Black Tower, Duke David has found it necessary to lead an expedition into an area which nobody has ever dared explored... the Lands of the Dead! The goal of the mission to end the Tredach curse and pact with death, and if possible to return the King to life! Since Duke David must die in order to travel to the Lands of Death a new regent has been appointed in the interim. This is Duke Dirk Steadfast of White Citadel, who is now given the title and responsibilities of Regent of Bereny. King Mark, or Duke David, will be reinstated in their respective positions upon their return from the Land of the Dead. GLACIAL DEVOLUTION! The proposition that the Southern Glaciers be gradually devolved into self-government has met with tentative approval from most quarters. Although the papers and legal details may take a long time to work out, and the whole thing must still be passed by the committee and the Crown, this is certainly a step in the right direction. In the next year we could possibly see a new Kingdom established... but the question already arises, who would rule the Glaciers? Several figures have been suggested, or have suggested themselves (sometimes rather violently) as a possible ruler, in a position which has already been coined "The Ice King". The Ghosts Of Harold Hall The stately manor known as Harold Hall, located near the City of Jobollah, has been deserted for several years, its estates abandoned and run to wrack and ruin. Every time a new lord was given control of the area they resigned shortly afterwards complaining of 'supernatural dangers'. Royal Investigators found evidence of haunting but were unable to remove it and so the estate was closed. Now, the area is covered in a permanent mist, its Hamlet a ghost town. Harold Hall itself is a huge rambling mansion reputed to be full of the worst ghouls, ghosts and undead imaginable! Perhaps adventurers would find this a location worth investigating? A Marriage Of Royal Bloodlines (report by Sasha Whitemoon, roving reporter.) The man who has been named interim Regent of Bereny was married recently to the Duchess of Torlia, Juliette Tredach. Best man at the proceedings was Lord Darrack d'Torfane. Resplendant in full Steadfast ceremonial armour, the Duke looked every inch the war hero, yet still he was outshone by his bride, in a simple but beautiful wedding gown Duchess Juliette still managed to look like she had stepped straight out of a fairy tale! No wonder the Duke's usually dour expression seemed, for once, positively jovial! The ceremony was conducted by the High Priest father Emerick, whose simple speech was heartfelt and touching. His conclusion was that simple love was the most powerful force in the land, and that as such this couple were a force to be reckoned with, brought great cheers from the assembled audience, and yet seemed also a subtle comment on strength in the Kingdom, a reminder of just who these two are and how important their marriage is. This reporter chooses not to make fun of the Dukes 12" ornamental tassles on the basis that I may have to work in White Citadel at some point... I'd just like to join the rest of the Kingdom in wishing them good health and prosperity. Trouble In The Elven Lands? The Great Forest, long the home of both the Elves and the Centaurs, has been stirred up recently by internal dispute. Several small power groups have laid claim to internal areas of the forest and it is unclear at this point what exactly their claims are. It is always difficult to enforce law in the deeper areas of the Great Forest, since many places can only be reached by magical means and the Royal Army are not well-equipped for such challenges. Although the Elven Queen has not yet requested assistance, Royal advisors have already begun pondering the difficulties of mobilising the army in such a difficult terrain. Mad Wanderer A woman stumbled into the village of Sheldeck on the Western Border of Bereny last week claiming to have returned after years lost in the Broken Lands. Although the poor lady seems to have lost most of her faculties following the horrors she has faced, she has been able to answer some of the questions about the bleak area to the West of the Kingdom which have been often asked. Stories of terrible creatures roaming the blasted surface, and of a vast dungeon area below the surface could be truth, or mad ravings. It is unclear which given the womens generally poor mental state. She claims that she was part of a party of missionaries who were looking for life to preach the words of the Gods to, and that she lost her husband when the ground itself gave way and he tumbled down into some cavernous area below...
