The fate of the 311 men and women of Moonbase Alpha is uncertain by some, although NASA has officially concluded that noone could have survived. No communication has been recieved as the moon continues to speed out of our solar system. For years, nuclear waste has been ferried up to moon instead of storing it on Earth. Moonbase Alpha was constructed as a waste management facility as well as a scientific research outpost. By all accounts, it was a huge success, but there may have been some underlying secrets. The Times has learned that there had been a coverup concerning the astronauts that were training to go on the Meta Probe mission. It seems that the original memebers had all died due to some kind of radiation poisoning and that the back up crew had contracted the same condition and were already being treated in the Medical Centre Isolation Ward. Several scientists that we have contacted have speculated that with the explosion on the moon yesterday, that this radiation leakage which was killing the astronauts, was the cause. Though the spark that caused the ignition is unknown, we can conclude that NASA did not want this information to be known and may have jepordized the fate of those living on the Moon as well as life as we know it here on Earth. May God watch over the people of the moon and may God help us all survive the change in axis here on this planet. SPACE 2099 is based on the 1970's television program, Space: 1999. It continues on the adventure of the men and women of Moonbase Alpha, 100 years later. They have still not found a suitable planet on which to live and there is even some speculation now that this might not be a high priority as the new generation has known nothing but life on the airless moon. For eighty plus years, the moon has travelled through a region of space in which they had no contact with suitable planets or alien cultures, however scanners now show that they will be passing into an area rich in possible locations and alien contact. Moonbase Alpha has expanded but day to day life is as dangerous as it was in 1999. Come on over to Moonbase Alpha and check out something that is a departure from the Star Trek world. There aren't any warp capable craft...no transporters....no replicators; just men and women trying to survive as best they can using the limited resourses of the moon.
