Re: Shadowfane (free, open-ended, email, human, fantasy, rpg) From: madcentral@aol.com (MadCentral) Date: Tue, 15 Oct 2002 11:17:24 +0000 >>Was that for a pbem or pbm? If the latter then of course it is nonsense, but for the former.. *shrug* Do you really need to know where they live?<< Whether we do, or do not *need* to know where they live isnt the point. The signup form states, several times, very clearly, that we will not sign them up without the full, correct postal address. The point being, those are clearly the rules, it doesnt take much common sense to see you've got two choices, (1) send the info and play, (2) don't send the info and dont play. >> As long as they keep sending money why should you care? << I'm not going to get into a discussion of policy here. The fact is, we *do* care, and we wont let people play without the info. We make that patently obvious, so that anybody who has a problem with it can leave and save us, and them, time. >>Ok, actually I know you should care because you probably want to send them advertising for your other games, << Don't be silly. The vast majority of our email players live on the other side of the world. Anything we want to announce to them we announce on their turns. We don't mess around with expensive mailshots. >>invitations to meets, newsletters, and all sorts of other odds and sods which doesn't have the same impact via electronic form, << Nope. Only mail players get things in the post from us. >>but even so maybe people just don't want that and there's no way on your form to say so (no idea, I'm just guessing).<< Theres no way on the form to say so, because its not an option. No info, no game. Their option is to go play another game which doesnt ask for that info. I'm totally okay with that. But if they want to play with us, the info needs to be there. That is what the site makes very clear. >> TBH I for one am always very careful about giving companies any "personally identifying" info on the 'net << That's fine. Anybody who feels shy or nervous about giving out their personal info to us can simply go elsewhere. We respect every persons right to decide for themselves. But if they do want to play with us, the info must be there. Its pretty simple. >>I'm not saying you would take the p*ss, Steve, but far too many companies do.<< This is way off the point I was making though. Im not arguing the merits of sending your personal info. Im just wondering why people would bother to do a signup at all, when the site clearly says we'll just delete it without the info supplied. >>And for those trawling this email address from a newsserver somewhere - no I don't want my penis or breasts enlarging, tvm.<< Are you sure? An extra inch or two can be achieved with one simple technique, simply send $3.00 to Greg for full info. : ) Steve T. Referenced By Up
