New: Star Trek: Ascension (free, open-ended, email, human, space, rpg, abstract) From: lindahl@pbm.com (Greg Lindahl) Date: Sat, 23 Nov 2002 20:14:46 +0000 Name: Star Trek: Ascension Costs: Free URL: http://ncc1701f.cjb.net Frequency: None Email: trepe_2000@hotmail.com Type: Space Opera Last-Update: 2002Nov17 Keywords: free, open-ended, email, human, space, rpg, abstract Description: Star Trek: Ascension Rating: R Age: >=18 URL: http://ncc1701f.cjb.net Description: This sim is a Star Trek Alternate Universe PBeM RPG Simulation. In our world the Dominion has won the war and has been the only form of real government in what once was the Federation for the last 7 years. In that time a great many things happened all over known space let alone the galaxy as a whole. Our story focuses around a group of individuals who dare to do something different. They aren't happy with the statis quo and are willing to work to make a difference. They are willing to risk their own lives in an effort to turn back the clock and set right what once went wrong. In that broad and ambitious mission they journey on the only ship that can realistically help them achieve their goal; the USS Enterprise (NCC - 1701 - E/f). This is the only ship that can unify a now fractured society in an effort to throw off the yoke of a Dominion government. For now though they move in the night through through the shadow of space. Working and living each day as if it might be their last. All in an effort to make it possible that one day the next generation won't grow up under the facist Dominion dictatorship. Optional Information: It is important to note first that the world I have just described is just one side of many that exists in the sim's fictional world. What I am looking for is people who will commit to helping me and the other players in the sim develop the story. Secondly, possible players should read the bios on the website to get an idea of what I will be looking for in a bio. All bios follow the same basic format. However within that format you are free to develop your character as you wish for the most part. Thirdly, characters are coming from a world where the Resistance is largely secretive. Think of the Resistance in Star Wars for an idea of how things are. It normally takes atleast a special situation or a unique background from which the character comes from to get in contact with a Resistance movement. I say 'a' because there are two basic movements to which you are free to expand upon what has already been written on the background of those movements. Most if not all the information necessary for character generation and the world your character lives is on the website. Except for a few key peices of information. The Romulan Star Empire is no longer as xenophobic as it once was. When the Federation fell there was a mass exodus to the boarders of Federation and known space before the curtain fell. As a result the Romulus was forced to deal with incredible numbers of aliens asking for safe refugee. The only reason they asked them? because they had no where else to go. The plight of their situation was the only thing that saved them in the eyes of Romulus. In effect there was almost a chrysalis as the Romulan Star Empire recognized a kindred sole almost. Facing millenias of real and precieved threates Romulans had built a shell against outsiders in their culture. Over the past seven years natural cultural assimilation has brought upon a drastic change in Romulan policies. In fact even the new Praetor is married to a human. This is important because this is where a vast majority of new characters would come from. The reason is really very simple. The Klingon Empire is still recovering militarily from their war with the Dominion. They aren't proud of what they did in signing a treaty with the Dominion but it was necessity. They also aren't as capable of supporting an impossible amount of immigrants. As for the Federation, most of those who are already willing to risk their lives, fortunes, families, and everyone they care for are already apart of the resistance in some form or another. Keep in mind this group of people isn't very large. The reason being that people don't like change and are far to willing to accept what they preceive can't be changed. It takes drastic acts to make people willing to actions in kind. The simple fact of the matter is that the Dominion is extremely good at controlling people and convincing them that there isn't a need to be 'foolish' and dream of any other way of life. Requirements: Players must be able to post atleast four times in a month. Currently I am really lax about this but I need players who are willing to help step the pace up. Through joint logs with other players and adding new and interesting twists to the story. As a GM I typically run a very free-form stile of game. The only rules I have is that you respect the other players. As long as you do that then everything else has a way of working itself out. I don't like to restrict a person creativity. So while I do have things in mind to move the mission forward. Never hold yourself back on subplots and such. If you need help just ask me. The typical length of a post is atleast 3 pages. Anything less isn't really effective. Contact Info: URL: http://ncc1701f.cjb.net Brent e: trepe_2000@hotmail.com icq: 40211634 AIM: WA99323 [ This is a new entry for the PBM List.
