New: Championship Racing (free, open-ended, email, human, historical, sports) From: lindahl@pbm.com (Greg Lindahl) Date: Thu, 02 Jan 2003 08:14:59 +0000 Name: Championship Racing Costs: free URL: http://www.geocities.com/championship_racing/ Frequency: once every two weeks or so Email: Championship_Racing@yahoo.com Type: Horse Racing Simulation Last-Update: 2002Dec27 Keywords: free, open-ended, email, human, historical, sports Description: This website is different from traditional fantasy horse racing websites in that its primary purpose is not the management of fantasy stables and horses but rather the recreation of famous races and years from the racing's past. Visitors to the site may choose to manage a horse from the current simulation season, though, in much the same way they might manage a horse from a fantasy stable. The only difference is that they will be managing a real-life race horse whose ability is based on its actual performance during the year being simulated. For example, a visitor who chooses to manage Espops Foibles or Raymond Earl in 1978, can be pretty well assured that winning the Kentucky Derby will be difficult, given the daunting presence of Affirmed and Alydar. In addition to choosing appropriate races to run in, managing a horse also means choosing a real-life jockey to ride it. This game lacks the considerable excitement associated with breeding your own "superhorse" then watching it perform. However, the sense of history and nostalgia this game provides may make it more fun for some people. The website is rather diverse, too, so visitors to the site need not manage a horse to enjoy it. Currently simulating the 1981 year with John Henry, Wayward Lass, and Pleasant Colony. [ This is a new entry for the PBM List.
