Description:

The UFED RPG is a well established game.  Started in 1998, the UFED has
shared the Star Trek experience with literally thousands of fans!  UFED is
blessed to have many exciting games to play in and choose from.  We play
in a narrative style format (also known as third person).  Our game is
well structured and we enforce our structure so that everyone is on equal
footing.  There are many fine Star Trek games on the net and we're pleased
to be considered among them.  We've been featured in Star Trek reference
books (such as the Incredible internet guide for trekkers) as well as
online by The  Hailing Frequencies Issue #88 (12/1/00) by Julia Houston
and UFED awarded By Parguiva of PBeM-Portal.com on: 2001-06-05 13:10:52.
We've also received over 1000 web awards for site and gaming excellence.
So many that we've had to take the award list off line due to the
bandwidth used when loading the site.  Thank you to everyone who has
provided us with such honors.

Now, without further delay, take a peek at what our basic premise is:

In the year 2376, the war between the Federation and the Dominion came to
an end.

Starfleet began development of the Plasma Propulsion Drives (PPD) which
would 'theoretically' allow ships to utilize a cross over device to create
star gates and jump from one Galaxy to another.

In 2379, an army of Maasai, a mysterious race theorized to be of a
reptilian decent, sent a crushing blow right through the Federation's very
core.  An outpost established on a Maasai border home world was destroyed.
 It was soon discovered that this attack was planned and not merely a
random act of radicals.  A Federation envoy, containing the President of
the UFoP, was slaughtered in a merciless act of aggression.  The outpost
colony was completely destroyed.  A "condition 1" was called and war
followed.

A council was quickly convened to review the ability of the Federation to
effectively respond to this and future threats.  Captain Tombe and retired
Captain John Murdock, a council advisor, stepped up to make a
recommendation.  It was a suggestion to move forward with a new fleet of
starships.   They suggested that during peace time, Battle Groups would be
used for expanding exploration into uncharted worlds and Galaxies.  During
war time, Battle Groups would be the hub of the Defense Department.  The
U.F.E.D., would be the managing authority for Starfleet and it would not
only incorporate the Marines, it would develop the Marine Corps into an
equal partner of Starfleet.  The council quickly reviewed, discussed and
approved the proposal.	The daunting task of electing a new President was
the next order of business.  Although not unanimous, a candidate was
selected.  This candidate was none other then councilman Logan Sierra of
Bersunia.  He appointed his cabinet, reactivated Murdock's commission and
promoted Tombe to Fleet Captain.  These two men would oversee and command
the very first Battle Group.  Selected to be stationed at the Maasai
front, it was given the designation of the 242nd Battle Group.	 Sierra
then traveled to the Maasai front and addressed the members of the
Federation.

The new President of the UFoP, standing on a platform near the ruins of
the Maasai sneak attack on Starfleet operations base, Livitar 3...

"We shall remember as Earth remembered those 438 years ago, at a place
called Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on Sunday, December 7, 1941, a date that will
live in infamy...  Here is the United
Federation of Planet's date of infamy... Star date 2379.12.7 and that all
of those men, women and support personnel who gave up their lives in
defense of these ideals, that they shall not have died in vain.  We must
never again allow ourselves to relax our defense or grow dependent on the
ideals of a few.    But, instead hold sacred these truths of freedom, the
right to pursue happiness, gain knowledge through peaceful contact and
fair exchange are not ideals to be taken lightly or given over to false
security.  I have now implemented a new basis for our defense league, the
UFoP's Fleet Exploration & Defense, Corps.  It shall become known as the
UFED.	Star Fleet will be rebuilt, and the Fleet Marines shall no longer
be the muscle puppets of Star Fleet Admirals, but partners in defense with
Star Fleet, and they will be from this time forward, known as Federation
Marines.  In all, we must never again permit our laurels to rest solely on
the shoulders of starfleet command.  To risk the lives of our most
treasured possessions, those of our dedicated officers and their families.
 I recall the flawless logic expressed by Fleet Captain Tombe and Captain
John Murdock, to move forward with a new fleet of starships, that are
capable of delivering defense as well a calculated offense while posing
reduced risk to our most precious resource, our highly trained personnel.
To conclude my speech, I wish to express to you all the thoughts spoken by
a distant leader on Earth, during that very war which began on that tiny
island in the Pacific Ocean... it went something to this effect: Indeed,
no matter where, no matter how long it may take, we shall persevere; for
all we have to fear is fear itself."
