New: Cosmos (free, open-ended, email, www, human, space, rpg) From: lindahl@pbm.com (Greg Lindahl) Date: Tue, 24 Dec 2002 20:14:55 +0000 Name: Cosmos Costs: Free URL: http://www.topica.com/lists/cosmosgm Frequency: ASAP Email: cosmospbem@hotmail.com Type: Original Space Opera Last-Update: 2002Dec22 Keywords: free, open-ended, email, www, human, space, rpg Description: Cosmos is a PBEM run through a BBS, simply enough, but to answer the deeper question, it is an RPG that is a unique blend of freeform with restrictions and limitations. This style fuses flexibility with rules so that the players creativity is not hampered, but at the same time there is an element of strategy involved, and players can definitely achieve a sense of accomplishment beyond admirable role-playing. The genre is futuristic/space, but fairly devoid of most cliches found in this type of game. It is not derived from any particular popular sci-fi literature or movie, it is not too dark or too light, and it does not (necessarily) involve conquering planets so that you can mine them for minerals and start a galactic empire. More on the game world will be discussed later, but you can rest assured that this is no cookie-cutter space opera. First and foremost, Cosmos is supposed to be fun. The administration is not out to lord over players with almighty IC power or to make this game extremely frustrating. There will be no grand plot line forced on the game in general and players will not be herded towards any particular destiny. Your path is yours to choose, but whether its difficult or easy, just or destructive, ambitious or hedonistic, it should first of all be rewarding. This is why player input will be so heavily valued in numerous issues. If you wish to play, just email the address provided and you will be sent the manual, which explains the basics of the game, rules and ideas and all. If you're genuinely interested, the process will continue from there. [ This is a new entry for the PBM List.
