New: Rise of the New Order (free, open-ended, email, human, modern, wargame) From: lindahl@pbm.com (Greg Lindahl) Date: Tue, 17 Dec 2002 20:14:52 +0000 Name: Rise of the New Order Costs: FREE! Frequency: one per week Email: VRishard@AOL.com Type: Modern Diplomacy/War game Last-Update: 2002Dec16 Keywords: free, open-ended, email, human, modern, wargame Description: The United States is poised to invade Iraq. The American people are in protest. The United Nations does not support the united Stares 100% and is bogged down in debate. The Russians have recently discovered that Iraq is supporting the revolt in Chechnya. North Korea is outraged as the United States, Japan and South Korea demand the destruction of her nuclear weapons. What will happen now? The next move is yours to make. Choose your nation; send in spies and Special Forces to combat terrorist forces. Watch as data is fed to you by satellites and espionage. Send your holy warriors on a new jihad against the west or start a campaign of conquest. The world teeters on the brink of armed conflict. It is our world and anything can happen. This is the Rise of The New Order. Rise of the New Order is a play by email game created by me, Ray Howes in October, 2002. A turn is once a week, with each day of the week being different actions in the game. Monday is purchasing, non-combat movement, researching technology. Tuesday through Friday is combat, what everyone loves! Saturday and Sunday are diplomacy, auxilliary movement, spying, special forces. All actions are emailed to me and I send them on to the group. I don't mean, Tuesday you can have a combat turn, then Wednesday, then Thursday, then Friday. What I mean is Tuesday through Friday are the days you can figure out what you want to do and those are the days you have to email me your combat. We like storylines in RotNO. What do I mean by storylines? As simple as if you were writing you're own story for that day. Storylining makes the game more interesting instead of saying I move this here or I build this. Granted, summaries are a must, but it is the storylines I send onto the other players. I also email other players with what I call WNN, World News Network, that lets other players know what others doing through a media type source. We will have our website up soon. One of our players is handling that situation. Although we have run a trial version of the rules there may still be some kinks to work out. I'm always interested in what players have to say, especially concerning rules and ways to make the game more efficient. We are in our very first run so we are learning how best to play. Combat, diplomacy, espionage and terrorism are played out by rolling of one 100 sided die and storyling in the case of diplomacy, espionage and terrorism. There are rules to give each player an advantage or disadvantage. Popularity also has a role to play in the game as well. There are technologies to research to enhance your nation. Many nations are what I call Non Player Countries that have simple rules and a very limited military. What you do with these countries can affect your popularity and your diplomacy. In our first run the current countries taken are United States, Germany, Russia, Israel, Iraq and China. Iraq, China and Germany are currently tied up in exams being the end of the semester and will be starting late. Although it is best to be the "superpowers" we are always looking for more players. I am looking for players who know they will have the time to invest in this game. Although you control how much time you put in the game, whether its 15 minutes or whatever, I wnat players who will care about what they are doing. I want players who are creative and imaginative and people who WILL NOT back out. Once you have said you are in, you are in. Leaving a game for any reason (except loosing in some way)is rude to others. If you are interested, email me at VRishard@AOL.com with the subject being Rise of the New Order.
