Balance Of Power From: ddmw@hunterlink.net.au (Marc Walters) Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 14:34:22 +0000 Does anyone know if there is a PBM Balance Of Power game running in Australia? If not, then a PBEM international game would be fine. I've seen a few vague references to BOP on the WWW and usenet, but so far nothing definite. The game I have in mind was run by Dynamic in the 1990's. Features up to 20 players. Wargame with political and economic resource management. 90 unit types, comprehensive tactical battles - up to 120 units each. Begins with 1900 tech and ending in late 20thC conventional. Land, sea, air units. Main assets were AGR, IND, FUEL and POP. Tradable between nations and never enough to fulfil requirements. The game was computer moderated, handling supply lines, tech discovery, combat etc. It was big and complex. Turns were handwritten and mailed. A typical order sheet included: Construction list for units and quantity. Investments in different tech areas. Changes in Diplomacy. Trading tech. Trading resources. Map changes (construction of forts, rail net, bases, industry, etc). World News (120 characters of freeform text) Unit organisation table (ID, Name, HEX location, battalions placed in unit) Spy Orders. Movement ( Unit ID, HEX location, attack formation, movement, etc) and ran to several pages. Game turns were 10 days and a typical game went for 20 or more turns. Hopefully that's enough information in case the game is now known under a different name. Marc Walters Referenced By Up
