So, young whippersnapper, you want to pull out yours and compare it to mine?

Your PBM magazine collection, I mean. Have you got:

* Rich Buda's Nuts & Bolts of PBM, the very first general interest PBM
magazine, dead and gone by 1984?

* Flying Buffalo's Favorite Magazine, the one published on a mimeograph
machine in the early 1970s? I remember an issue that had a grainy photo of
the huge Raytheon computer that Flying Buffalo used at the time to process
Nuclear Destruction and Battle Plan turns. They even had a pet name for the
Raytheon. I don't recall the name, and I'm too lazy to look it up, but if
anyone is interested, I'll notify the proper mental authorities on their
behalf.

* Frank Wakefield's Campaigner's Notes, another mimeographed newsletter that
began with coverage of the old PBM game World Campaigns IV but then branched
out into more general coverage. When Frank began the newsletter, he was just
entering law school; now he is a district judge in Kentucky. Just to be
safe, I avoid that part of Kentucky.

* Dan Dias' D2 Report, a Paper Mayhem competitor that featured Dan's
rancorous yet enjoyable editorials.

A whole 'nother collection might feature non-PBM magazines that ran PBM
articles. I can think of quite a few, including Analog (written by Matt
Costello, an unknown at the time, but today the author of a bunch of horror,
science fiction, and fantasy novels), Games (the glossy magazine published
by Playboy), Dragon, Space Gamer, Breakout (an Australian magazine), and
many others. Twenty years ago, PBM was really something, let me tell you.
