Maybe the players are too busy doing their turns to respond to online debates
of this kind?

Can't speak for the few other commercial companies still around, but we still
have a 1000+ player base, around 50% of whom still play by snail mail.

We are seeing a gradual but ongoing move to email which began about six years
ago and has progressed at about the same pace since then.

Basically, as more and more people see email as the "obvious" form of
communication, so the move continues.

I would guess that in ten years time there will be no more snail mail players
at all.  But I dont believe theres any fundemental difference between the
mediums, the turns and the gameplay remain basically the same in a turn-based
game.

As for turn-based games; the only reason I can see for them dying out would be
if all the producers moved on.  The players are still there, but the producers
have fallen by the wayside in droves.

I would guess that outside of sports PBM there are no more than ten commercial
PBM firms left in world with over 50 commercial players in their games.  Maybe
no more than five, if truth be known.
