L'Epoque d'Or (The Golden Age) is a moderated, play-by-post game set in a world based on Louis XIV's Versailles; a splendid palace set among beautifully landscaped parks and a bustling city right outside the palace gates await you here...as do adventures with swashbuckling Musketeers, witty, aristocratic courtiers, duplicitous priests, and scheming government officials. Enter a world of intrigue, adventure, romance, and espionage, where your best friend could turn out to be your worst enemy.... King Julien has recently opened his newly built palace and proclaimed that the calendar be reset to Year 1, to celebrate the new era of Charlemontine dominance that will start with his rule. By far the finest palace in the known world, it is the new center of culture for all of Charlemont. Built on the edges of the capital city of Chambord, Beaugency Palace is filled with splendor, decadence, and opulencebut it's also rife with intrigue The extravagant balls and parties held to celebrate the opening of the palace, however, faded quickly as a revoltthought to be staged by Prussavians of the radical Reformist faith and drawing on the peasants of Chambord for numbersrocked the world of court. However, the Musketeers, with help from many able courtiers, were ultimately able to defeat the rebels. Court has moved on in the aftermath, but the events of 25 August, Year 1, are still a hot topic of discussion, as are the many loves, rivalries, and rumors that have developed so far at court. Prince Gaston, the King's uncle, who married a Prussavian princess and has been in Prussavia leading the war against the Reformists, has returned to visit the Charlemontine court at Beaugency. Delighted at his uncle's arrival, the king has established all things Prussavian as fashionable. In a recent bid for independence, he has replaced all of the memebers of his household with younger gentlemen--many of them Prussavian. And yet there is a quiet rumble beneath the surface among Charlemontines at the growing infuence of foreigners at their court... In addition, the King's first mistress was mysteriously poisoned just when Gaston arrived at court. Coincidence? Or something entirely more sinister...? Do you have what it takes to survive your time at court, to climb the social ranks, and to ultimately win influential friends, money, and power? If so, if you have that certain savoir-faire, that combination of graceful charm and a wicked riposte (of wit as well as a rapier!) then we'd love for you to join us!
