Last-Update: 2005Feb07 Keywords: free, open-ended, email, human, space, historical Description: Century 22 is a game depicting the history of the 22nd century. Players take the roles of nations, responding to changing social, economic, political, and technological conditions. Turns represent 5 year time periods, which means that players will be more concerned with long term trends and crises than daily political events. The economic system is quite detailed but simple to use. There is roleplaying as you deal with the other players, all of whom are directing nations of their own, but the game requires a different kind of input than a free form role playing game. You don't half to post a paragraph every other day describing the next 10 seconds in your character's life, but you do have to fill out a turn order once a month telling me what you did. You will have to choose your nation's policies- do you favor Labor or Industry?- it's spending- guns, roads, schools or profits? - and its investments, and guide your nation, if you wish into the exploration of space. Attention is also paid to the style of government you run, and its impact on the nation. A Theocratic Dictatorship has a different style of play than a Parliamentary Democracy. Players specify their governing style through a series of "policy settings". It's going to be interesting, and no vampires anywhere. The economic simulation system, the social rules and "policy settings" are intended to make nations behave more like different societies and less like collections of numbers, and if we get the most important thing (fun players) then it will, in fact, be fun. Non-US citizens are especially welcome as they add a certain "global" perspective. [ This is a new entry for the PBM List.
