A Play by Mail game for YOU! From: ggroup3@europa.unm.edu Date: Sun, 28 May 1989 00:54:35 +0000 Lords of the Earth is a PBM game set in the year(s) 1100 AD. Each player plays a country somewhere in the Old World. (The new world will not be 'opened' for a while, if at all for native american nation players). The game has one Game Master, who must receive your orders (hand written or e-mailed) on a set due date, then they are processed and returned to you by mail and/(if available) e-mail. The game currently has a 5-6 week turn around, with each turn progressing at 5 game years. Rulebooks (must be mailed) cost $7.00 (US), turn fees are $3.50/turn, initial maps are $2.00. (A set up for new players would cost $16.00 which would include 3 turns, a set of maps, and a current rulebook). There are roughly 30-35 players in a game. Each player has many options ranging from Diplomacy to Intelligence to Missionary works to Imperial Conquest. Most of the game has historical origins, including historical army compositions and actual terrain types. The rules are constantly being fine tuned, but the GM (me) ussually gives new players many hints and is quite open to questions. A 'newsfax' for turn 2 of Lords Campaign 4 will follow this message. Please note that there are currently 4 openings in the game, and a waiting list will be made if those are filled. Currently the game is being run mostly by hand, though a large database has been created and rules are being coded daily. The game was developed in 1983 by Wanderer Games and is a copyright of Tom Harlan. Campaigns 6 and 4 have had extensive overhaul and are considered derivative works.
