Diplomacy game opening! From: Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com Date: Thu, 22 Jun 1989 03:40:20 +0000 Taken from The Gamers Guide to Diplomacy: "DIPLOMACY is a game of intense competition. It is not a "nice" game ... that is, it is a game where some vices become virtues. In real life we don't lie to our friends, nor betray trust, nor attack without warning. We do in DIPLOMACY. Often. The First Commandment in DIPLOMACY is 'Thou shalt covet they neighbor's supply centers.'" I have just organized game #12, the players are: Ron@synthesis.com/Ron Lay Tedrick@ernie.berkeley.edu/Tom Tedrick Matt@oddjob.uchicago.edu/Matt Crawford Princeton!polygen!dan/Dan Miller Gdm@cs.cmu.edu/George Michaels Fiend@utaphy.bitnet/Daniel Allcock Sinhaa@sscvax.mcmaster.ca or sun!uunet.uu.net!maccs!anand/Anand Sinha I am now ready to organize game THIRTEEN! My lucky number. If you are interested in being a player send e-mail to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com. Include the following in your e-mail message: Home phone number, work phone number, home address, and country preferences. If you have any suggestions for names for the games, send them to me also. Previous games have been called Bunker Hill, Gallipoli, Panzer, Maelstrom, Red Storm, Pearl Harbor, D-Day, Navarone, Blitzkrieg, and Operation Overlord. I also have openings in a variant that I am calling 1958 Diplomacy. That is, we follow the original rules for Diplomacy, down to putting armies on top of fleets when convoying! People on my waiting list are: daybell@aludra.usc.edu, okamoto@hp- ses.hp.com, jog@hpperf1.hp.com, wilson_c@oxy.edu, hplabs!pacbell!cpro!meadow!bill, jf30@andrew.cmu.edu, and darkstar@cti.as.arizona.edu. I am currently checking with the BNC to see if I would be allowed to bypass the two people per state limitation by having a game with all seven people from the same state. This would help eleviate my backlog of California players. Although a few more game starts would solve my problem just as nicely. (Our backlog is 5 people at the moment and I will be starting another game within a week.) Up
