Diplomacy zine -- All Quiet on the Western Front From: daybell@aludra.usc.edu (Donald Daybell) Date: Wed, 16 Aug 1989 19:43:50 +0000 issue 87 of ELECTRONIC PROTOCOL ----------- Chapter One ----------- This chapter contains results for the games D-DAY, NAVARONE, BLITZKRIEG, OPERATION OVERLORD, GETTYSBURG, and HMS HOOD There is very little new information in this issue. The only game with new results is HMS HOOD, although OPERATION OVERLORD should be back online soon. The rest either don't have deadlines due or just haven't sent me anything. Unless I get something new, I will skip the usual midweek issue and put everything into next Tuesday's EP. Fall 1905 of game D-DAY (BNC 1989AW) (GM is Pav@cs.duke.edu/ Paul Vick) To all players in D-Day: Hi! Remember me? I'm your replacement GM who said he'd get the game back on schedule! Anyway, here's what happened: 1) I was told that my system, romeo, would be down last Wednesday so it could be upgraded. My files would be moved and I would be able to conduct business as usual. 2) What really happened was that the upgrade wasn't finished until yesterday. Mail that was sent between Friday and Monday either never got here or got here about 48 hrs late - hence my mail asking some players for orders that were already sent. 3) No problem - a delay of 24 hrs at the most, right? Wrong. I logged back into my original (upgraded) machine only to find that my mail directory had disappeared and I wasn't getting any incoming mail. It wasn't until just NOW that I figured out (by accident) that my files are going to be permanently left on what I thought was going to be a temporary machine - I'll no longer be on romeo. No message from the system administration informing me that I was one of the lucky few to get left on macbeth once romeo had been upgraded, nothing. So where does that leave us? Fall '05 still hasn't run as I haven't heard from Germany. If he was stretching the truth about his new mail account, he will be replaced as soon as possible. My mail path should work as it did before, as romeo.cs.duke.edu can figure out to route my mail to macbeth.cs. duke.edu. My current phone number is (919) 684-0616 - I've been moved again. As a rule of thumb, if you can't reach me at my "current" #, call (919) 489 4672 and leave a message - that's my parent's house and they'll know how to reach me quickly. I send each season's report directly to all players as well as the GM of EP, so if you don't get a turn, write me and make sure mail isn't getting lost. At each point during the last few days I've tried to send out messages updating D-Day's status, but obviously they didn't make it out. I'm calling Germany as soon as I get off the mainframe, and so another update should be out tonight or tomorrow morning. My apologies to all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Vick |Internet: pav@romeo.cs.duke.edu "Of course I'm being childish! What's the point| vicpaua@yalevm.bitnet of being grown up if I can't be childish?" |Bitnet : vicpaua@yalevm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spring 1905 of game NAVARONE (BNC 1989AX) (GM is pwoodruff@orion.cf.uci.edu/ Peter Woodruff) Next orders due Aug 21. Hopefully that will give you plenty of time negotiation and for schmoozing in the sun, as well as clearing up commuinca- tions problems and so on. Talk to you in two and a half weeks. Summer 1903 of game BLITZKRIEG (BNC 1989HL) (GM is dougi@astro.as.utexas.edu/ Doug Ingram) Not Received Fall 1903 deadline: Sunday 8/13 noon CDT Fall 1903 of game OPERATION OVERLORD (BNC 1989HM) (GM is davisje@crd.ge.com/ Jon Davis) Not Received Gentlemen, I need only two more sets of orders for Fall 1903 and I'll be able to resolve the moves and continue with this game. I am sorry that it has been delayed due to lack of communication. Apparently Ben Snarr had no idea of what was transpiring and I have as yet not received any direct communication from him. I had been notified of a guest GM a couple of days before my departure and forwarded sets of moves that I had received. I received no confirmation or request for information from him. The players whose moves I'm missing have been notified to post me a set of moves ASAP. Once I have received them we can continue back to the regular schedule. Upon further consideration, I have decided to put all non-GM press under the same heading, "From the Grapevine". I'll let you decide what is real. _______________________________________________________________________________ Daily Dirk Brussels (Reuters) - Belgian King Albert today awarded General of the Army Pierre DeRose the Croix de Valour, Belgium's highest military honor, for his brilliant defense of the country against the Imperialist aggressions of all three major powers surrounding this tiny country. When asked how he was able to acomplish this amazing feat of military tactics, General DeRose replied, "We were fighting for our homes, we were desperate, and we had courage and superior skill on our side. We simply outsmarted the enemy; and we will do so again if any of them are stupid enough to try and assault our homeland again!" Eyewitness accounts from many persons who were caught in the thick of the fighting claimed to have seen Belgian soldiers dressed in French, German, and English uniforms and flying the flags of those nations. It is this reporters belief that the Belgians duped the three attackers into fighting each other, thus preventing them from achieving their objectives. This belief, however, could not be confirmed by any official source. _______________________________________________________________________________ From the Grapevine Berlin (UPI) "The German government appears to be waffling..." said German political correspondent Helmut Schmidt. Citing overwork, underpay, and too many "nice frauleins", the German High Command excused itself of this abominable crime. "Ve hope zat zis vill never happen again (except for zee frauleins)" responded Commissioner Von Helmholp. _______________________________________________________________________________ There are no retreats, so builds are due Tuesday, August 15 at Midnight EST. The Spring 02 turn is due Midnight EST Sunday, August 20.
