Rome (AP) - The mood was tense today in Rome after the revelation that the Austria emperor Franz Vick had referred to pasta as "that vile, disgusting Italian dish." The Austria Emperor reportedly made the remark during a private dinner at his favorite restaurant in Vienna, the Chez Villa Lounge, after he had requested the "special of the day" and been given a plate of spaghetti with Paul Newman's sauce. The emperor followed his remark with an invective against "those crazy nuts who think they can just run the Mediterranean like they owned everything," and other various threats. As news of the remarks has spread across Italy, thousands of Italian pasta chefs have risen in arms and have threatened to invade Trieste to "pay back that stinking pig-dog Austrian emperor". Brandishing kitchen knives and spatulas, the chefs have massed along the Austria-Italian border, prompting threats of retalliation by the Austrians if the crowd doesn't disperse. "Well, if they don't leave soon," one Austrian diplomat was reported as saying, "we'll be left with no choice - we can't risk having the Italian chefs taking over all our restaurants. Where would we eat then?" ******************************************** Pete's Points: Since none of the retreats affect builds, you can submit them at the same time (Wednesday Aug 2) as builds/disbands. See the notes for legal retreats. I have a proposal for an Austria/France draw. Per Eric's house rules, the vote must be unanimous. If I have seven yes votes by Aug. 12 I will let you know; otherwise the deadline for the next orders remains Monday, Aug. 21. Thanks for the good wishes for the Dipcon; unfortunately, I needed more than good luck. I have come to the conclusion that I am too old for face-to- face Dippy, at least at the tournament level. -Pete- Spring 1903 of game BLITZKRIEG (BNC 1989HL) (GM is dougi@astro.as.utexas.edu/ Doug Ingram) Not Received Fall 1903 of game OPERATION OVERLORD (BNC 1989HM) (GM is davisje@crd.ge.com/ Jon Davis) GM Notes: John Richards (Turkey) will be on holiday all next week.
