Far from humanity, the last remaining Stygian sorcerers conjure on the Isle of the Black Ones... Is there yet life in the game? Wait! They see a vision... A vision of... Hyborian Headlines: PICTS STORM ACROSS AQUILONIAN BORDERS! NEMEDIAN GARRISON FLEES TO GROG SHOPS OF ZINGARA! LEADERLESS ZAMORANS RETAKE HOME CENTER, RAISE FIRST ARMY IN THREE YEARS! BLACK KINGDOMS TERRORIZE HYBORIAN COAST! ZINGARAN ARMY SEEKS HOME IN NEMEDIA! VENDYAN OFFENSIVE IN SOUTH ENCIRCLES FORT GHORI! Let's try something new... I'll promise (ha!) to do the move next Wednesday if everyone gets the moves to me by then. We can try to speed this game up, for the umpteenth time... So let's aim for moves in by August 2. --- Rumors Kethian, who neither reads nor writes, is ranting and raving about the loss of the warlord. He is not rational and I fear for his sanity. The broken alliance with the First Sword and the dissolved alliances with Zingara, Turan, and Zamora twice have unbalanced him. He may not last another campaign. Cast this as a rumor if you wish, but do not implicate me! --- Rumors A lock from the hair of Lord Eric deHafaby, Warlord of Zingara, was delivered to me by a Cimmerian thief in my employ.... Apparently he had acquired it from the Sorceror-king Nutotlax, who had intended to use it for his own dire purposes. Fortunately, the weirding women of the Picts were able to use it to strike the Warlord deathly ill. A few well-bribed officers, and voila! Fleeing Zingaran troops.... --- Rumors KOTH--Rumor is flying in the capitol about the failing mental health of Kethian V. Since the death of his father three years ago, young Kethian has been struggling with a tangle of international alliances and intrigues. His pacts with Zamora, Turan and Zingara have failed with the downfall of the leaders of those countries. His alliance with the Picts appears to be at an end. The province of Khoraja, which his father died trying to take, remains in Turanian hands--a sacrifice to a necessary truce. Observers have heard screaming from the private rooms of the palace, and not only in male voices--clearly the palace staff is suffering from the King's unfortunate disposition. As a side note, the royal scribe has been quartered and left on the palace ramparts for the buzzards. Although this writer had no contact with the poor man, others have said that he was the source of many of the above rumors. SOUTH LANDS--It is a truly monumental sight: Thousands of small boats with Zingaran troops and mercenaries drifting south on the waves of the Pirate Sea. Since news of the death of the Warlord (true or not) reached the army, there has been consternation and confusion. The Picts are deadly, and only the personal loyalty of these men to their warlord had kept them going. Now they are headed home any way they can go. The Picts in the Marshes and on the coast can either move aside or be trampled in the rush. STYGIA--This pivotal city is under seige. The residents are hiding and the rumors are flying. Daily the balance of opinion shifts. Turan is allied with Vendya and will sweep the Black Kingdoms and Koth away; Vendya is allied with the Black Kingdoms against Koth and Turan; Koth and Black Kingdoms against Turan and Vendya. The truth is, of course, that no one knows. Some of the residents of this war-torn city long for the old days under the serpent kings, and wonder aloud if there is any chance that they will return from the Isle of the Black Ones (what they might be doing there is another series of rumors). --- Rumors To His Majesty, the King of Argos: Your predecessor, Lord Eric deHafaby, self-styled Warlord of Zingara, did take actions which forced our war parties to strike across the border into Zingara, to avenge a matter of honor. The city of Zingara swiftly fell to Pictish warriors, and his craven officers fled before our wrath, many taking passage over the sea in cowardice. The Warlord himself fled into the Zingaran countryside even as his capital fell, and went into hiding; and all Zingara has been in chaos ever since. I feel it is unwise of you to make demands upon our poor nation; for many of our stalwart warriors have struck deep into the heart of Zingara and have taken well-defensible positions, about the city of Zingara and in the mighty fortress at the Point. It seems unreasonable that you demand our troops depart from their hard-won gains. Nevertheless, it would not be unreasonable with the new regime to cease hostilities; for it is deHafaby who we war against, and not you. However, there are two demands which we insist upon before peace may be spoken of. Firstly, we demand the head of the Lord Eric deHafaby, Warlord of Zingara, Protector of Argos. While deHafaby still lives, there can be no peace. Secondly, by deHafaby's machinations, many of our bravest youths have died in the icy wastes fighting the steel-clad soldiers of Nemedia; and many more have paid in blood attacking Zingara itself. Thus we demand the seven most handsome youths and seven most winsome maidens of all Zingara and Argos, to be placed at the service of the Pictish court, every year at midsummer. Should these demands be met, the Kingdom of the Picts will recognize your crown as King of Argos, Lord Protector of the Zingaran Uplands, cease hostilities immediately with borders drawn along the current lines, and agree to your proposal of alliance against our mutual enemy, the sorceror-king Nutotlax, King of Nemedia.
