ELECTRONIC PROTOCOL Special Double Issue #84 & #85 ----------- Chapter Two ----------- (contains: DRAGONSLAYER, DOUGHBOY, BISMARCK, COLD WAR, JACAL) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Publisher's Notes: I took over this chapter of the 'zine with a backlog of at least two issues to worry about. They have been combined here so that I can get them out of the way. The only results published in this issue are for games Doughboy and Dragonslayer, as the other three games were just getting under way. Their deadlines have already passed and results will be posted in issue #86. WE INTERRUPT THIS ZINE FOR AN IMPORTANT BULLETIN.... The British are leaving!!!! The British are leaving!!!! In a complete surprise, the French and the Germans have combined forces to attack the English army stationed in Belgium. The galant Britons tried to fight back, but the overwhelming force of 3-1 was too much and their defenses were destroyed. It has been reported that many English soldiers were killed and taken prisoner. The attack came as a total shock to the British Parliament considering that they thought of France as a close ally. The force and the speed of the attack was too strong for the navy to attempt a rescue operation. The Prime Minister told the people, "The recent attack on our soldiers in Belgium and the invasion of the French navy is a violation of our treaty with France. We will fight on the seas and the oceans, we shall defend our island, we shall fight... ghmmm, sorry, wrong war... nevertheless, we shall never surrender!" Considering the recent actions by Russia in the Scandanavia we have but one conclusion to make - England stands alone. It would appear that the Russians were tricked into giving supplies to the Austrians. As more supplies rolled into Rumania from Sevastopol, Turkish troops attacked the city. After a furious battle, the city was captured and it has been reported that some of the Turks were seen using Russian weaponry. Apparently, the Russians were defeated by their own supplies. It seems that Russia has alienated all countries around it, except Germany, and is now in danger of being squeesed from the North and South. In other news, for the first time since the war started, the Italian city of Venice was not attacked. The Italians used the quiet to rebuild some of the buildings and also to bring up reinforcements from Rome. The situations seems to be growing worse around Mediterranaen and we expect a major offensive to begin soon. We are not sure who it will be though and don't want to make a guess. Also, we are saddened to report taht the last independent country - Greece - has fallen to a combined bombardment of Italian and Turkish fleets. The president of Greece has signed the capitulation papers, but has promised, "Our brave partizans will avenge this. They will not stop fighting until the invaders are thrown back to where they came from. Meanwile, I will go back to my deli and try to sell some more gyros... war is hell, but we still have to eat." Stay tuned for more details. We now return you to your regularly scheduled zine..... <blink!> Press: Sorry folks, due to war, the paper supply is very limited. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fall '02 of the game DOUGHBOY (BNC number not known) NSO = Not so ordered ---Austria-----------------------------|---Germany----------------------------- A Ser - Tri |A Den - Swe FAIL F Gre S A Bul H |F Hel - Den FAIL A Bul H |F Ber - Bal A Gal - Boh FAIL |A Mun - Boh FAIL A Vie S A Gal-Boh CUT |A Tyl - Vie FAIL ---England-----------------------------|---Italy------------------------------- F Cly - Nwg |A Tus - Ven F Nwy S F Lon-Nth |A Tun - Syr FAIL F Lon - Nth |F Ion C A Tun-Syr F Nth - Ska |F Eas C A Tun-Syr A Bel - Hol |---France------------------------------ ---Russia------------------------------|A Mar - Pie F Swe S ENG F Nth-Den NSO |A Gas - Bur A Mos - Lvn |A Bur - Bel A War - Sil |A Pic S A Bur-Bel A Ukr - Rum |F Mid H A Rum - Ank |---Turkey------------------------------ F Bla C A Rum-Ank |F Aeg - Bul FAIL ---------------------------------------|F Con S F Aeg-Bul 2:2 in Bulgaria 1:1 in Bohemia |A Smy - Syr FAIL Note: No coastal ambiguity in Bulgaria |--------------------------------------- Positions Austria 5 A Tri Vie Gal Bul F Gre England 5 A Hol F Nth Nwg Ska Nwy France 5 A Pic Bel Bur Pie F Mid Germany 5 A Den Mun Tyl F Hel Bal Italy 4 A Ven Tun F Ion Eas Russia 6 A Sil Lvn Rum Ank F Swe Bla Turkey 3 A Smy F Con Aeg Supply Centers (new in CAPS) Austria 6 Vie Bud Tri Ser Gre BUL England 5 Lon Lvp Edi Nwy HOL France 6 Par Bre Mar Spa Por BEL Germany 4 Ber Kie Mun Den Italy 4 Rom Ven Nap Tun Russia 7 StP War Mos Sev Swe Rum ANK Turkey 2 Con Smy Adjustments Austria + 1 England = France + 1 Germany - 1 Italy = Russia + 1 Turkey - 1 Adjustments are due Tuesday night. == PRESS == Editor's note: All articles datelined from any Great Power were submitted by that country. Right now, they aren't. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zu"rcher Zeitung August 1902 Edition -ZURICH- Environmental scientists accompanying the Russian Southern Fleet announced the discovery today of evidence of a long-standing diabolical Turkish plot to destroy the Balkan ecosystem. Documents purportedly from the Valdez, flagship of the Turkish Admiral commanding the Black Sea fleet, revealed that the Sultan had sent the Fleet there in spring 1901 with orders: "In the name of Allah, keep the Black Sea black". --------------------------------- In an exclusive expose from Paris, our correspondent reports that French scientists were commissioned by the Foreign Ministry to invent a secret weapon, "le diplo-reflecteur". This small, portable weapon resembles a walking stick and will soon be issued to all French ambassadors in Europe, after successful trial runs in Berlin and London. When deployed in meetings by those ambassadors, the diplo-reflecteur allegedly pursuades officials with hostile intentions against France to order their troops away from France. As a backup, the French government is believed to have pawned the Spanish Crown jewels, seized during the occupation of Madrid, to prepare for an evacuation to America. -------------------------------- Rumors from Berlin indicate that a Russo-German friendship pact will soon be signed. German and Russian diplomats were observed partying loudly together, troping around ribbens and chugging Molotov cocktails. For days together, the entire town had a festive atmosphere, and the sailors and officers of the fleet stationed are rumored to be loath to leave merry Berlin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -ROME- Since it is the six hundred and somethingth aniversary of the expedition of the famed Italian exploror, Marco Polo, his most magnificent highness, Giuseppe Ravioli, has announced that Italian general, Marco Spumoni, will recreate his voyages to commemerate this special occasion. His first stop will be the city of Damascus. After, he is expected to tour Asia Minor for a while visiting relatives before proceding further east. When asked why his was taking such a large number of his troops with him, Spumoni replied, "I hear there's plague over there. The more men I bring with me, the lower the odds that I'll be the one to contract the disease. Any idiot can see that." Fortunately for the Italian people, General Spumoni is not just any idiot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -VIENNA- Austrian intelligence forces today reported that a spy in their organization had been caught red-handed. The perpetrator had forged documents to be sent to France which replaced the proper friendly diplomatic notes with threatening tones. Although the document did manage to get to the French government, a spokesman from the French Embassy in Vienna told reporters that "It was so obviously fake that a three-year-old child could have done a better forgery job. We were not taken in for a moment." The Austrian Internal Affairs minister said that "A full investigation is in progress. We are somewhat ashamed that this could happen in the first place, yet we are proud of our ability to capture this spy before he could do any real damage." Austrian foreign relations have not been strained by this episode. In fact, forces have already mobilized to meet the German invaders in Tyrolia. This surprise invasion, which the Germans allegedly enacted in response to Austrian verbal support of France recently, has been denounced by all officials in the Austrian government. Emperor Charles, who has been rumored to have been suffering from a cold caught while leading troops into Bulgaria earlier this year, made an unexpected announcement on the subject. The Emperor said that "Military aggression as a response to verbal support of the French is about the silliest thing I have ever seen. Whomever is leading the Germans this week ought to be put away." He declined to speculate that the spy was on the side of the Germans, stating that "I don't think the Germans are smart enough to pull of something like this." In Bulgaria, deposed Serbian leader Milos Petrovic was captured in Plovdiv, trying to escape to the Turkish border. The official government statement on this incident was "The Turks will pay dearly for helping that traitor. Perhaps the Sultan will share eventually in Petrovic's fate." As promised, Petrovic was beheaded and his head was indeed mounted upon the palace gates. Emperor Charles, upon hearing this, was rumored to have muttered "Good riddance." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Le Monde -PARIS- A Foreign Ministry communique from the Quai d'Orsay announced that the French Government wishes to "thank all the Great Powers of Europe for their restraint and support for France amidst the turbulent security crisis last spring." The communique further hoped that other Great Powers would work toward peace on the Continent and offered the services of French mediation. In a stirring speech at a tumultous Bastille Day parade in Paris, President Rajeev praised the citizens and soldiers for rallying to the cause, and said "French armies stand ready to defend La Patrie against all enemies". He also scotched scurrilous rumors in the Swiss press that the French Fleet had been ordered to evacuate him and senior government officials to the New World ; rather the fleet had to leave Portugal "to quell a minor insur- rection in the Azores, in view of our increased responsibilities in Iberia." The guests of honor at the parade were the Kings of Portugal and Spain, who were in Paris to sign the Franco-Iberian defense treaty, pledging their countries to be French protectorates.
