"Hey, these are my kind of Beer drinking, belching kinda dudes man. We're like, gonna move in and start a really righteous party." "I think this would be a really good place to start a league. I can see we will need to pour a lot of aid into this place though. Some hosehead had all the bowling lanes torn down." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Paul's Notes: Everything came in on time! This turn may have reached you a little late on Thursday, due to (another) problem with the UUCP/Bitnet connection, this time with Germany. It appears that the phone # I gave was wrong if you want to reach me...my number is (203) 436-1394 -- I don't know what number I gave before, but I apologize for the mixup. No retreats this season, so Fall '07 will be due next Wednesday, Sept 27th unless there is overwhelming support to extend it to Sunday and get back on the weekly Sunday cycle. Pay more attention to your orders! A number of orders came through with mis-labeled units (say, F Alb instead of A Alb) and occasionally a very garbled order will slip through as well. My double-check usually catches these errors, but I'd prefer not to have to worry about it and if it gets much worse I'll just start tossing out erronious orders and running the turn... NAVAL BATTLES IN THE IONIAN, AEGEAN, AND ENGLISH CHANNEL! The French fleet sailed into the Irish Sea, while other units fought the English to a standoff in the Channel. France appears to have the help of Germany, who is moving northwest and northeast, in a fairly clear attack on the English! The Austrian, Italian, and Turkish navies fought for control of the Eastern Med and the Aegean. These battles caused all moves of Turkeu and Austria, except for "HOLDS" to fail! Russia seems to be heading north, having 3 units in the Scandinavian Theatre and one in Warsaw. Is the Kaiser trying to slow down German growth? ============================================================================== Paris Daily Franc At a news conference in Madrid today, the president explained the purpose behind the campaign that he is personally conducting. "We are looking for a decent drink to stock the cellars of the Champs Elysees with ", he said. "But all we found here on the peninsula was some rubbish called 'whinge' or 'whine' or some such name. No good at all. We are now intending to pursue rumours about some elixir called 'bitter' that is brewed in the North". ============================================================================== -Steve (gm) ------- Fall 1903 of game HMS HOOD (BNC 1989HX) (GM is daybell@aludra.usc.edu/ Donald Daybell) Winter 1903 of HMS Hood England France No builds Builds F Mar and A Par Germany Russia A Hol and F Den refused to No builds retreat and were removed Italy Turkey Builds F Rom Builds F Con and F Smy Austria Disbands F Tri, F Gre, A Alb Builds Turkey +2 Russia 0 England 0 Germany -2 Italy +1 Austria -3 France +2 Supply Center Count 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 Turkey 4 4 6 Ank, Smy, Con, Bul, Gre, Ser Russia 6 7 7 Mos, War, Sev, St.P, Swe, Rum, Nwy England 4 5 5 Lvp, Lon, Edi, Den, Kie Germany 4 3 1 Ber Italy 4 4 5 Ven, Nap, Rom, Tun, Tri Austria 5 5 2 Bud, Vie France 5 6 8 Par, Mar, Bre, Spa, Por, Bel, Hol, Mun _______________________________________________________________________________ Press: All press from the GM will be under the "Daily Dirk" byline. The formerly cautiously exuberant atmosphere has disintegrated entirely. Tens of thousands stand along Plaza Strausberg to watch a fraulein of impressive girth plod towards the Brandenberg Gate. Flags of many embassies, notably Austria-Hungary and Russia, wave faintly at half-mast. At the Gate, the German National Symphony sits, instruments in their laps. prepared. As the woman arrives, the conductor nods, and she smiles tightly. Her music rustles in the light wind; she steps toward a podium, and faces the crowd. The conductor taps his stand, the orchestra prepares to play. As the notes of a low and mournful dirge drift over the assembled crowd, the woman takes a deep breath and begins to sing... _______________________________________________________________________________ Spring 1904 is due Sunday, Oct. 1 at midnight EST.
