Diplomacy zine -- Double Issue (It's been a rough week) From: daybell@aludra.usc.edu (Donald Daybell) Date: Thu, 21 Sep 1989 20:43:52 +0000 issue 98 and 99 of ELECTRONIC PROTOCOL ----------- Chapter One ----------- This chapter contains results for the games D-DAY, NAVARONE, BLITZKRIEG, OPERATION OVERLORD, GETTYSBURG, and HMS HOOD Diplomacy game DDAY (BNC accidently deleted) Winter 1906 Results: Germany disbands A Boh England disbands F Edi France disbands F MAO Russia builds A War Italy builds F Rom Press: RUSSIAN LEADER TAKES SEASON OFF Moscow (AP) -- As there were no major tournaments last week the Czar spent the majority of his time polishing what was left of his prize bowling ball. He will also be spending some time working on a new technique since due to a large, unsightly crater in the left half of said ball, it has developed a mean hook. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Paul's notes: France and I have had a number of mail problems -- mainly due to the screwy connections between UUCP and my section of Bitnet. The problems seem to have been solved, and we can resume normal scheduled progress of the seasons. Since this turn is coming out over the weekend, I'll set the deadline for Spring '07 at Wednesday, Sept. 20th at 12pm -- however, IF everyone has their turns pretty much ready, I'll go ahead and run the next season as soon as I get everyone's orders. (So don't send in orders unless you definately want them run) Thanks! Due to an unplanned and unforseen trip to New York City for a very important diplomatic conference, the Emperor was unable to get his orders transcribed and sent out before the seasonal deadline and he wishes to assure the leaders of Europe that such a delay will not happen again -- no matter how much his butt is getting kicked around the Balkans. Austria's retreat is due ASAP; if I don't hear by Friday I'll assume a retreat to Albania. There may be trouble in Ontario; messages to France via watmath are bouncing (confirmed by bounces in another game with a different cognosite). If any of you have recent contact with France, please forward; I'll also try the telephone. Turkey's machine will be down for a couple of weeks, so our next deadline is October 8. Units are on the march across Europe as the war machines get into high gear. The new Sultan in Turkey has backed off of his predecessor's attempts on Russia, and redirected his sights on the Balkans. Germany, in a stunning move, has captured 3 centers, and will be tied with Russia, both having 6 centers. Few units remain in central Europe, as the world awaits calling up new forces. ============================================================================== _The Ankara Daily Ottoman_ NEW SULTAN IN TURKEY Istanbul, Turkey. A new Sultan has taken power in Turkey after a sudden tragic accident to the former Turkish leader left this spot vacant. "I will do all I can to protect Ottoman interests and promote peace throughout Europe," the new Sultan, Ben of the Goldenland, stated. New policies have been proposed, and many advances have been made in Diplomatic relations due to the new and improved communications system recently installed in the Sultan's offices. A Turkish official commented,""There is hope and prosperity again in Turkey. Upon further consideration, I have decided to put all non-GM press under the same heading, "From the Grapevine". I'll let you decide what is real. _______________________________________________________________________________ Daily Dirk This should be a better result list than the piece of junk I sent out previously. Sorry for the confusion. It's been a rough week. _______________________________________________________________________________ From the Grapevine Munich (Reuters): Chaos in the German camp. Looting and destruction everywhere. The citizens are fleeing with only what they can carry. We are now udergoing a powerful French invasion. Only a token force of police and untrained militia have been mustered; they will certainly surrender before nightfall. Even now, the army bivouac areas, and outlying suburbs have fallen. As the French troops sweep toward our position in the center of the city, we continue our live reporting. Dateline Berlin: Confirmed reports have stated that the embassy guards at the English embassy opened fire on massed crowds of Germans with machine guns and light cannons. Several thousand are reported dead or wounded. King John Of England issued the following statement: "The pigs were threatening the sovereign English soil of the embassy, we acted in self defense." Secret from London: Rumours abound that the English king is looking at his powerful ally France in a new light. England now has a rival of virtually equal power, and has a wonderful opportunity to obtain a large amount of prime continental land. Although no confirmation has been given, highly placed sources indicate that action may swiftly be taken. Berlin: Berlin is quiet, for the first night in several weeks. English and German troops have been fighting over it in a titanic struggle. The result is unclear, but fragmentary reports indicate that neither side has gained clear control. By default, Germany retains ownership. Provided the troops in Denmark succeed in removing the invaders from Kiel, Germany is bruised, but alive. The High Command has continued martial law. The atmosphere is one of calm and control, overlaying a sense of deperation in this defense. Even the children are helping, picking through the rubble to garner any usable war materiel. Dateline Kiel: Unconfirmed reports from the area around Kiel have reported that the occupying English army has committed several atrocities among the local populace. The most major of which appears to have been drinking all of the beer in the province at room temperature. The messenger was dying. He stared up with glazed eyes at his commander , the Tzar of Russia. Gathering strength, he lifted himself on one arm and coughed slightly...the effort of speaking, however, was too much and he fell back wheezing. The Tzar looked to the Nurse. "How long does he have left", he asked. "His wounds are very grave, sir. He could go any time now." She was white faced and twitchy, nervous that such an important man would appear on her shift, and unhappy that one of her patients was dying. "Sir? Why is this man so important?" "He was Russia's greatest spy. Only two weeks ago, I sent him on a mission to England, to see what those damn Brits were up to. This...is how he returned." Suddenly, the spy coughed and spasmed, clutching at his side. "My lord...", he whispered hoarsely. "The English...the English are allied with the French! We have no chance...retreat while you are still able!" And with that, the spy lay back and died. The room was silent for a moment, but finally the Tzar stood and turned to leave. The Nurse, stunned, asked "But sir...if he was our greatest spy, how could anyone...how could anyone discover him? How could he have been killed?" Turning back to the room, the Tzar said, "It was a man we've known for quite some time who killed him...a man who has been a thorn in our side for many years. "It was James Bond." With that, the Tzar left. _______________________________________________________________________________ Rear Admiral Donald Daybell ---Commander, HMS Hood **************** If you are interested in joining the fun here on Electronic Protocol, send mail to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com including your name, address, phone, e-mail address, and COUNTRY PREFERENCE LIST.
