BLACK SEA BATTLE! [all GM press will be datelined BOSTON (GM) - unless I decide to toss in some grey press, too. --ckd] BOSTON (GM) - The world erupted into chaos today as Europe went to war shortly after midnight EDT. Austrian and Italian troops fought hard in the Trieste area, with Austria a clear victor, while Franco-German clashes over Burgundy and the titanic Russo-Turkish Black Sea battles both left no winners. Austria, facing a joint Russian and Italian attack, appears calm today. ------ The Kaiser recently announced his intention to sample the finest beers, wines and elixirs from around the world. The Kaiser's iternary begins in Bavaria, brewers of world-class beer, followed by Champagne and Burgundy in France. Flocks of German tourists are expected to follow the Kaiser and his entourage on his wine-tasting tour. When informed that the French government might frown on the excessive public imbibing of liquors by foreign nationals on their soil, the Kaiser replied, "Eh? How can they turn us away? We are tourists, bringing much money into their country! Besides, if they don't let us try their wine, we will not invite them to the Oktoberfest any more!" ------ London (Reuters) - The Empress of the British Empire, Queen Victoria, is dead. The throne has now passed to Prime Minister Prince Edward, who will become Edward VII. This marks the first time that the monarch of the British Empire will actually run the Empire in two centuries. In a press conference today, Prime Minister King Edward VII said, "Since we have received no formal alliance propositions as of yet, the Royal navy will not show aggression toward the Continent. However, we are interested in forming alliances with the German Empire and the Republic of France. But at this point we will settle for an alliance with the Norwegians." ------ Rome (UPI) - In a late news conference today, Pope John XVII announce that he would be taking personal command of the Italian armed forces. When asked his reasons for interference, he said, "In this volatile international arena, it is necessary that we use our forces for the purposes of good, rather than the petty goals of politicians." Later, he also officially acknowledged the Austrian offensive. When asked if he felt threatened by the French forces based in Marseilles, he expressed complete confidence that the long-standing friendship between France and Italy would remain intact for many years to come. "After all," he exclaimed, "why would the French attack us when they can get revenge on the dirty Germans?" ------ the Austrian Emporer today acknowledged Russian sovereignty of Rumania. "They can take it; but woe betide them should they enter the rightfully Austrian country of Galicia..." He went on to throw repeated foul insults at the Serbs. Also, his Imperial majesty recognized the German problem with some slight hesitation. "We sincerely hope they will attempt 'closer ties.' A co-defense sphere is a good thing." ------ The Secretary of the Central Commitee acknowledges the gesture of goodwill proposed by the Kaiser and would further like to extend friendly relations to allies of both sides. In addition, as a safety barrier, Prussia, Silesia, and Galicia should be considered a DMZ from this turn onward. The Supreme Soviet has recently voted in favor of negotiating the 'Scandinavian Treaty' with England. Talks are slated to begin soon. ------ German representatives met in London today with His Highness the Prime Minister regarding a potential alliance and/or possible alchoholic trade agreement. No word has been received regarding the results of these talks, but German officials are hopeful. ------ In other news today, Germany and Russia officially signed treaties demilitarizing Prussia and Silesia. The Kaiser has also given tacit approval to the Russian economic aid package to Sweden. The German government has refused to comment on the rumor that these agreements were lubricated by the donation by the People's Committee of several crates of fine vodka. ------ (Cubs in 7 :-) A's in 6 :-( Cubbies in 4!!!!!!!!! ;-) ------ Rumours about a 'vino for vodka' scandal implicating top officials of the Italian and Russian embassies were vehemently rejected by both nations. "Us? and Them? what common enemy could we possibly have?" said Colonel O. Northski in a recent statement. ------ -- Christopher Davis, BU SMG '90 <ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu> <smghy6c@buacca.bitnet> "Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand." Up
