WSGB Diplomacy COCHRANE Summer '05, DILITHIUM Summer '02 From: ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu (Christopher K Davis) Date: Wed, 08 Nov 1989 07:20:21 +0000 WSGB Diplomacy #1 - COCHRANE Summer 1905 Results: No retreats were necessary. Press: ------ The Sultan welcomes the German aid in fighting the Russians. Together with the Italians our combined attacked should strecth the Russian defenses thin enough to break thru. Good luck in the fall offensive. ------ London (Reuters) - His Majesty the Prime Minister was again outraged by the comments of the Russian Government last week. He was quoted as saying, "Who the hell else are the French going to attack? We've cut them off from the German Empire. Who cares what double-crossing Slav swine think anyway? The BEF has successfully taken Picardy and is ready to attack either Brest or Paris depending on what the Kaiser thinks we should do. We also thank the German Empire for keeping the Russian hordes out of Edinburgh for at least one more year. However, we strongly recommend that the Kaiser consider attacking the Russian horde to keep them from becoming to strong to attack in the future." ------ BTW, wasn't there a French fleet in Picardy last Winter and not one in Brest? That was my understanding since the Fall moves indicated no move F BRE-anywhere and the later mention of units indicated one in Picardy. Perhaps I was mistaken. [This is correct. I goofed. This being a material error on my part (I apparently managed to drop the order when putting up results, and France then acted as if the fleet were in Bre) we can replay the turn if y'all want to, or just let it go as it is. Folks, I need feedback on this one.] ------ TASS (Moskva) Heard on the streets: "We'd call them German Pigs, but that's a redundant phrase in Russian." Omerete, Nemyenski cvinya. Konets yest skypoi. ------ WSGB Diplomacy #2 - DILITHIUM Summer 1902 Results: English F Norway retreats to Skaggerak. Press: ------ Rome to Budapest: The silence of the Austrians is as of the dead. Orders such as 'F GRE H' are less than informative of Hapsburg intentions. Do you intend to remain neutral in the Italian-Turkish situation? What was Russia thinking about, anyway? I presume that you will act to take Bulgaria; we are acting on that assumption this Fall. Best of luck. ------ London (BBC) - In a press conference, Prime Minister Highbrow said, "We shall fight on land, water, and probably air someday. We shall fight in the streets, on the beaches, and in the playgrounds. Damn, the police will be busy, but we shall never surrender!!!!!" ------ Istanbul to Paris (Reuters): ``The Italian has left his rear completely open. Strike now before he can hit you with the Turkish builds.'' ------ London to Germany: "As you can see, Russia is in a big mess down south. I doubt that you will get much more help in the north than what he already has. Reverse your fleets and I will stay away. It'll be you vs. France. You should also consider what could happen to you if Austria decides to join in the fun." ------ Istanbul to St. Petersburg (AP): ``The imminent occupation of Sevastopol shall insure that your northern gains do not pose a threat to me. Long live the Sultan!'' ------ BOSTON (GM) - If you didn't get my mail, Russia, the answer is no, you can't. That just don't work. ------ Istanbul to Vienna (AP): ``The Sultan personally congratulates the continuing joint efforts of our forces with the Crown Prince's. As the Czar rages north, he will slowly be decimated in the south. A thrust into Sevastopol will insure that the Czar cannot build a southern fleet next year and may possibly gain you another center if the Czar pursues his vendetta against me and attacks Armenia. Also, you have successfully repulsed his advance Polish division. It poses no threat to you this year. Turn west and hit the Italians with a two-prong attack. After all we will not be safe until Venice is occupied and all hopes of a Lepanto cannot be realized.'' ------ The Underground Press reports: England dodges bullet.....Russia subtly attacks three other nations; film at 11....Italy wages war on Turkey (?)...Austria poised to dominate the Balkans; how did they get Greece and Rumania, folks.. Turkey giving the Russkies a taste of the Jihad...French armies crawling all over each other like big blue bugs trying to get at Germany...What the hell is going on in Belgium?.... ------ London to Vienna:"I hear beer is good in Munich, and there's some good milk and wheat in Warsaw." ------ Istanbul (AP): ``The Minister of the Navy confirmed that joint naval maneuvers with the Austrians would be adhered to on the Turkish side. We congratulate the Austrian successes in Romania following our clash with the Czar's southern fleet and await the fall of his naval base. On the Mediterranean front, we are prepared to assist the Crown Prince's naval forces into the Ionian for future joint maneuvers against the threat of Italian naval power.'' ------ Sofia to Athens (UPI): ``Bulgarian forces loyal to the Sultan have been ordered to relieve the watch of the Crown Prince's fleet as joint naval maneuvers in the Ionian begin next season. That our Austrian brethren have already gained Romania will insure that our ally will not suffer a reduction of forces during the transfer.'' ------ London to Russia:"Doesn't look good in the south, does it? Within 2 years, foreign armies will be in Moscow unless....you pull out of Sweden and issue the army some sun-tan lotion. Germany will fall if Austria comes in, you will definetely fall if I stay in against you." ------ Moscow(UP) - Czar to Sultan: You will never get Sevastopol, because I will let Austria have it first. Therefore, you must support me back into Rumania if you want to avoid being forever cut off from the rest of the world by Austria and a now very hostile Italy. If Sevastopol goes, where do you think Italy and Austria are going next? South Africa? I will support Austria in myself rather than let you get it. Also, if Austria has any sense, it will support my position, just to keep you bottled up and prevent you from getting a build while he and Italy attack (are you listening Austria?). It's now or never. If you try for Armenia and/or the Black Sea, Austria gets Sev next fall. ------ Rome to Paris: Prince Iago applauds the French declaration of a demilitarized zone between Italy and France. He does suggest that A MAR might be best thrown away, to begin a new life as F BRE. Bien sur, c'est un affair francais. .. ------ France -> Germany We are sorry for all misunderstandings. If you again support us into Belgium this fall when it counts, I'm sure it will be the start of a very nice and powerful alliance. This doesn't mean we should gang up on England. We need to work with him against these weirdos in the east. ------ Munich (CNN) The Kaiser, in town nursing a severe hangover, released a short statement to the press: "We hope to hear from the French ambassador on the eventual disposition of the French forces now exercising near our western border. We also would like to make it clear to the French that we feel Belgium to be rightfully French, not British, and intend that their unit in Picardy will be able to secure Belgium in the fall, although the help of the unit in Burgundy may be needed. The Kaiser feels it vital to save the French-speaking populace from the tyranny of British rule, and would also like to point out that regardless of whether French intentions are toward Germany or Italy, a move from the Riviera into the north of Italy is almost mandated." "To our Russian friends--events in the north have been both good and bad. Regardless of which way Her Majesty's Ships retreat, they can retake Norway if they are willing to leave their Expeditionary Force on the continent without support. I do not foresee any need for coordination between our actions this turn. Having that fleet in StP/nc would have helped..." ------ London to France: "Dear President, it would seem to be very unhealthy for you if I was to fall. I would suggest that you sent some supplies to help our engineering units repair the roads damaged by the recent tsunami in Belgium." ------ London to Istanbul: "Here! Here! Let's have a party in Moscow!" ------ Rome to Istanbul: To my friend, the Sultan, I dedicate a quote: IAGO: O sir, content you. I follow him to serve my turn upon him. We cannot all be masters, nor all masters Cannot be truly followed. You shall mark Many a duteous and knee-crooking knave That, doting on his own obsequious bondage, Wears out his time much like his master's ass For naught but provender, and when he's old, cashiered. In other news, Admiral M. Lepanto of the Italian Navy was suddenly struck with a freak brain fit, and was replaced by his chief of staff, Admiral V. LaRouge, who promised to 'fight the infidel Turk and slaughter millions in the name of the Prince of Peace (no relation)'. The new Turkish flamethrower was displayed in the Museum of Creative Anachronism in Florence, where large crowds of Italian citizens were amused at its primitive construction, ornate design, and remarkable tendency to incinerate the user rather than the target. We hope that the Sultan will see the futility of this device before it does unexpected damage" said a Italian offical.. ------ Moscow(UP) - Czar to Kaiser: Some reversal of fortunes in the Black Sea area has been experienced, and it seems unlikely that our Norway contiginent will be able to hold their position, and will likely prepare defenses in Sweden instead. Please maneuver into the North Sea to contain future English moves and threaten the English Isles. I will be glad to support your moves in that theatre. As you can see, the Warsaw army did move in support of the Black Sea forces (and I guessed that one just right). It will continue to do so, but they sorely miss their beer, and need it for courage in the coming times of trouble for the Motherland. ------ London to Germany & Russia:"Which way did he go?! Which way did he go?! Oh there he is!! Which way will he go?! Which way will he go?! Shall we have a guessing game? Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland...mmmmm...looks so tempting." ------ -- Christopher Davis, BU SMG '90 <ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu> <smghy6c@buacca.bitnet> "Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand."
