WSGB Diplomacy - COCHRANE Win04, DILITHIUM Win01 From: ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu (Christopher K Davis) Date: Sat, 04 Nov 1989 22:42:28 +0000 WSGB #1 COCHRANE - Winter, 1904 England disbands F Wales. Germany builds A Kiel, A Berlin. Russia builds Army St. Petersburg, Fleet Sevastopol. Turkey disbands F Adriatic, A Albania, and declines the opportunity to order the Italian A Venice, thereby rendering the whole thing moot. [And since there *were* objections I wouldn't have let it go thru anyway--why do you think I asked if there were objections? --ckd] Press: ------ Anatolia delenda est. ------ Despite the temporary German occupation of Scotland, the German High Command has urged Britain to maintain its expeditionary force in France. The German government termed the increasing lack of supplies in England "regrettable." The Russian proposal calling for the joint administration of Europe by Germany and the Soviet Union has met with some approval in German government. The Kaiser described the proposal as being "very interesting." The Germans offered, as a first step, to demilitarize Scandinavia and set spheres of German and Soviet influence at the current border lines. A sizeable portion of Germany's military power is currently occupied in defending German interests in Sweden, as well as the majority of the Soviet Arctic Fleet. Both forces, it is felt, could be better employed elsewhere. ------ In the annual meeting of the Supreme Soviet, the delegates unanimously recommended that in the near future, all economic centers gained in Europe should be allocated to Germany in order to alleviate the current 7-11 disparity. With the impending liberation of the people of the Ottoman Empire, maintaining an equal distribution becomes even more important. ------ London (Reuters) - His Majesty the Prime Minister was outraged on hearing of the Russian proposal to "give London to the Germans." He was quoted as saying, "We hope that the Kaiser is more sensible than respond to threats by the Russian government. I agree that they have never lied to Germany, but they have lied to us. That should be enough to convince the Kaiser that he should not deal with them. Also, to show our continued alliance with the Germans, we have decided not to send the BEF home to defend against the French fleet in Scotland and the Russian fleet in the Norwegian Sea. We hope that this show of good faith will convince the Kaiser that the Russian horde should be slowed and not helped. We also hope that the German Northern fleet will support the Royal Navy in expelling the French from Scotland." ------ Since the units in the Italian area have disbanded do to lack of supply, the army in Venice is best controlled by the Pope. We will continue to work together with the Pope's troops whenever possible (hopefully this will be much more possible in the future). ------ The German High Command suggested that the British Expeditionary Force, if it can be maintained on French soil for another year, either take Paris or assist German forces in the Piedmont in recapturing Marseille. The exact choice was to be left up to the British, given the extremely leaky nature of Anglo-German communications of late. It was also suggested that the Italians consider deploying forces into North Africa and the Mid Atlantic, from which numerous French ports could be threatened. Of course, the French navy bottled up in Spain could attempt to contest the Italians at the Straits of Gibraltar, so a direct assault on Spain should also be considered. ------ The German response to the Soviet proposal appears to be one of "cautious interest." The Kaiser today requested that the Soviets fully clarify their position on the Scandinavian question, and additionally requested Soviet suggestions on possible German-Soviet cooperation in the upcoming year. ------ Turkey: Sultan comments on Russian proposal for Europe. "I am sure the Kaiser realizes that Russia has never been interrested in sharing control of Europe with another major power. They are getting close to sole control now and after pacifying conquered territories in the south, they can sieze some Eastern German provinces to complete their conquest." ------ WSGB #2 DILITHIUM - Winter 01 "Just the facts, Ma'am." Anyone who does NOT have the Autumn press or the status report, who gets this, should contact me IMMEDIATELY. Sorry this is late--mail clogs both inbound and outbound. I *think* they're all cleared by now. One player will be gone from 11/16 thru 11/25. He is welcome to find a backup player as long as I am notified in advance, or if everyone agrees, we can delay the game. [It's not as if you all have to get ready to send diplomatic messages to the backup :-] Austria (2) : A Bud, A Vie England (1) : F Edi France (2) : A Bre, A Par Germany (2) : A Mun, F Kie Italy (1) : F Nap Russia (2) : A Sev, A War Turkey (1) : A Smy Vote results: B - RET !B - GAIF Black press is now not in use. At least until someone calls for votes to reinstate it (which will require four votes). Press: ------ Berlin to Moskva (The Sun): ``Let's kick some British butt. Assuming your northern build is F StP/nc, how about A Swe-Nwy, supported by A Fin & A StP, with F GoB-Swe. My moves, given builds as A Mun and F Kiel, would be A Den holds, F Kie-Hel (again), and F Hol supporting Ruhr-Belgium. Fall turn your F StP-Bar, A Fin S A Nwy, A Nwy Holds, F Swe-Ska, my F Hol S F Hel-Nth, F Hel- Nth. Britain gone by Fall 1903, and then we get the Page 3 Girls.'' ------ Berlin (CNN) The German government today released yet another in their series of communiques to heads of state around the world (soon to be available from Time-Life Books): "The Kaiser has called on the rulers of Italy and Austro-Hungary to declare the Tyrole to be a DMZ, as 'the silly little province isn't very useful, as it only borders on 4 supply centers.' German reservists now mustering in Munich are expected to spend much of their time in the beer- halls, and reportedly 'can see no reason to move into the wine country, as the stress of battles on the grape can produce an inferior vintage.'" "German troops are expected to move into Belgium to rescue the populace from the aftermath of last summer's tsunami and the hard winter. Citing severe communication problems due to espionage, the Kaiser has deemed the move necessary for the safety of the Belgian people, but is expected to discuss the creation of the Belgian protectorate by the British or French governments with their ambassadors in the spring." "The Kaiser hopes that all will see the logic of eliminating black press, but notes that 'if the {apathetic} majority votes for black press, my other evil twin Herr Skippy may become difficult to control.' The Kaiser also hopes that at least a few of his fellow heads of state can identify the real German press by now." "A motion was made today that all acronyms be made illegal in the German Empire until such time as we could come up with some decent ones, but it was voted down by a delegation of the Fatherland's Ubermenschen Team (In Little Eggs) in combination with the Deutschland Idiots and Lepers Dance Organization. Hopefully these groups have removed them- selves as a force in foreign policy by the disclosure of just how stupid-sounding their names are." ------ Istanbul (AP): ``The investigation concerning last season's mishap was closed today. It appears that the commander of the Second Tactical Corps mistakenly ordered his troops to march north from Smyrna to Ankara instead of northeast to Armenia as originally ordered by the Minister of War. The Sultan has personally ordered that the commander be demoted and the Tactical Corps assume proper defensive fortifications in Armenia.'' ----- Istanbul to Vienna (UPI): ``I shall take your silence to mean tacit approval. Expect support from Budapest against the White Navy.'' ----- Smyrna (AP): ``Celebrations abounded in this industrial complex and seaport as the Sultan ordered the raising of a new fleet. The Palace issued the following statement: "We all celebrate our successes in Bulgaria and our continued friendship with the Crown Prince. We are prepared for joint maneuvers with the Prince's companion flotilla in the Ionian Sea"'' ------ (Naples) Prince Iago today issued a declaration of war against the Turks. Announcement of a build of Fleet Smyrna demonstrates that the Sultan is quite demented, We will wage total war with our gallant Austrian brothers against the awesome menace of Turkish control of the Eastern and Central Med. The Italian fleet stands ready to thrust into the Eastern Med; will Austria support us, or stand idly by? We suggest that the Austrians order the seizure of Bulgaria this turn while F-CON is trying to move into the Aegean. The Turk cannot afford to ignore F ION's move against them (either AEG or EM...sounds like a coin flip to me). In any event, Greece shall remain Austrian, henceforth and always..." As for Turkey: Don't worry. I'm sure Russia would never dream of attacking a Turkish player with two fleets and two armies, none of which are in the Black Sea. No chance. Uh-uh. No way... With Austrian armies and Italian naval power, this witch is going to have a house dropped on her Real Soon Now.... ------ France today annouced the creation of two new armies today, one in Paris and one in Brest. No official word has yet been given on why the French government was taking a land-based approach, but rumors are that an all-out attack on Germany is forthcoming in retribution for German treachery and failure to help French forces secure Belgium. However, one nameless source reported that although this is true, if Germany is willing to show true loyalty to the French, all would be forgiven and the military would concentrate elsewhere. ------ Moscow(UP) - Support me into Belgium and you've got a great deal of explaining to do. ------ Moscow(UP) - Czar to Kaiser: OK by me about the Baltic area (as long as you don't attack me). I have no intention of entering German domains (wasn't Denmark always German?) We could obliterate England in no time if we got together. I will be glad to assist you in the Spring if you would move into the North Sea in the Spring. Or, I will help get you into Norway, in return for being able to have Denmark for one turn, to get out into the Atlantic. Make me a specific proposal in the Winter press. Also, what about the Austrian front? Also, how about we both stay out of the Baltic Sea itself, as it is rather sensitive for both of us. Agreed? ------ the germans don't want to go to burgundy...rhine wines are pretty good, and any german beer knocks the crap (krap) out of kronenbourg...they want whiskey, and there ain't no place like scotland... ------ -- Christopher Davis, BU SMG '90 <ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu> <smghy6c@buacca.bitnet> "Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand."
