WSGB Diplomacy results - COCHRANE Aut04/DILITHIUM Aut01 From: ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu (Christopher K Davis) Date: Fri, 03 Nov 1989 06:54:09 +0000 WSGB Diplomacy #1 - COCHRANE Autumn '04 Results: Turkish A Serbia retreats to Albania. Adjustments due 11:59 pm EST Friday. Press: ------ The Pope Today was dismayed to hear that his lines of communication with the Sultan had gotten crossed, resulting in Trieste being left vacant, and Serbia being destroyed. "After their fishing fleet accidentally wandered into our waters, we felt certain that it would appreciate a chance to do something useful by capturing Trieste." Apparently, the Serbian army wished to evacuate and so was unwilling to merely support an attack. To prevent further confusion, the Pope placed the Venitian army under the command of the Turkish high command. "We are instructed to wait for orders and execute them cleanly when they come through.", said General M. Galluccio. "If we receive no orders from the Sultan, we are to assist the Germans in an attack on Tyrolia." [GM Note: Due to my earlier press-losing exploits, I'm *tempted* to let them get away with this by simply assigning A Ven to take orders from Turkey, unless changed by Italy. In face-to-face [at least with the groups I've played FTF Dip with], writing down orders such as "whatever Turkey tells it to do, except supporting an attack on Italian home soil, if no Turkish orders are given, then S GER A Pie-Tyr" would be valid. Unless there are objections, orders of this sort will be accepted. --ckd] In other news, it is rumored that the Tunisian army and the Western fleet are now prepared to enter the battle against France with a convoy to Spain. Again, if the Germans suggest otherwise, these plans might change. ------ PARIS (UPI): France continues to withstand the military might of the Wicked Witch of the North, and the Great Central Power. However, Italian aggression in the South bodes ill, as the prospects of withstanding a three-way alliance look grim. ------ Turkey: The Turkish high command in consultations with the Italian high command has requested more explicit plans in the future as a much more favorable result was possible this past fall if there had not been a communication failure during the attack on Trieste. ------ Despite the temporary German occupation of Scotland, the German High Command has urged Britain to maintain its expeditionary force in France. The German government termed the increasing lack of supplies in England "regrettable." The Russian proposal calling for the joint administration of Europe by Germany and the Soviet Union has met with some approval in German government. The Kaiser described the proposal as being "very interesting." The Germans offered, as a first step, to demilitarize Scandinavia and set spheres of German and Soviet influence at the current border lines. A sizeable portion of Germany's military power is currently occupied in defending German interests in Sweden, as well as the majority of the Soviet Arctic Fleet. Both forces, it is felt, could be better employed elsewhere. ------ London (Reuters) - His Majesty the Prime Minister was gladdened by the German Empire's help in expelling the French from English soil. He was quoted as saying, "The German fleet will help us remove the French is Scotland. However, we cannot help in the attack of France while we are battling foreign foes on our soil. We hope the Kaiser will have some suggestions in the coming month concerning the Anglo-German invasion of France." ------ Russia: Yet another anonymous official statement was published today. "We have been attempting to assist Germany for 4 years now. We have given them Sweden. We have given them Edinburgh. We have been attempting to give them Venice. We have offered to share victory with them. We have NEVER lied to them. We are offering to assist them into Belgium, Venice, and next year London. The workers and peasants of the Soviet Union are getting tired of ambivalence on the part of Germany. We would like to see active cooperation starting this year, or the Soviet patience will be sorely tried" The People's Safety Comittee today announced that agents of the bourgeois imperialist spy service MI5 were identified as the cause of the error in Soviet press earlier this year, where a reference to "touristic excursions into Norway" was altered to read "into Sweden", thus causing alarm among our German allies. Those agents have, of course, been given a fair trial and executed. CINC Northern Fleets congratulated the Kriegsmarine on its efficient capture of Edinburgh, and informed them that the Norwegian fleet will be moving into the North Sea. General Suvorov expressed his disappointment at the failure of the Piedmon Army to take Venice for the 3rd consequtive season. "We have been attempting to assist our allies at great risk to our comrades in Trieste. The misuse of our resources is appalling. The elite Tyrolean mountain troops will be tied up in the spring assisting in the recapture of Trieste, but we will support the Germans into Venice in the fall yet again." ------ Hey, England! Looks like Germany was a poor choice of allies, doesn't it? ------ Y'know, an English-French-Italian-Turkish alliance looks like a good idea right about now. How about it? ------ WSGB Diplomacy #2 - DILITHIUM Autumn 1901 "Stop the Press, I Wanna Get Off..." Results: No retreats needed. Votes: There is a proposal to go to white and grey press only. VOTE! Vote deadline is with the Winter '01 adjustments and press phase. Requires 4 votes to pass. Failure to vote will be construed as a vote for the status quo, black press and all. I will assume that the person who proposed the vote is voting in favor unless they tell me otherwise :-). GM NOTE: It would help me *greatly* if you separated your various press items with the '------' dividers that I use in my results reports. This makes it much easier as all I have to do is bring in the whole message, cut off the headers and moves, and run my scramble macro. Press: ------ Istanbul to Roma (AP): ``How can I trust you with the threat of a Lepanto looming over me like that?'' ------ Between the Aegean and the Adriatic (the obvious Apulia Italian build) you guys should have the Balkans freed in no time, while I disrupt his efforts from the north, possibly with a German armies' help. What fun!! ------ Washington: "Congress was startled to learn that war has been raging in Scandinavia between King Edward and Czar Nicholas for a little bit under a year. President Wilson has ordered an investigation on Congressional stupidity. This reporter suspects that the investigative budget will be greatly overrun." ------ Istanbul to Athens (AP): ``The Sultan hopes that the raising of a fleet in Smyrna will not alarm his Austrian brethren. His Majesty has notified the Crown Prince that the future flotilla will be given strict orders to support the Athens stationed fleet into the Ionian Sea for future joint maneuvers.'' ------ Istanbul to Vienna (UPI): ``That's I-S-T-A-N-B-U-L, Istanbul. Constantinople is only used by Eastern Orthodox oppressors like the Czar. His Majesty, the Sultan, continues to extend warm greetings to the Crown Prince of the Dual Monarchy.'' ------ Istanbul (AP): ``The Sultan has ordered a full-scale investigation concerning last season's mishap with the unordered armored division stationed in Armenia. The Minister of War has reported that it was "vitally important" to seize the southern naval base when we had our opportunity. "We have lost the element of surprise and now must prepare for a prolonged struggle over rights to the Black Sea. You can be sure that heads will roll because of this."'' ------ Prince Benito Iago Machiavelli, speaking at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of a new "Daggers R US" in the Florentine Mall, denounced the Turks and the British as "laughable incompetents" "In my country", explained the Prince, "we have a saying: rob the innocent and punish the stupid. France, Germany, and Russia: you know what to do. Austria and I will take care of the other one." Italian Intelligence, after a long session at an all-night capuccino parlor, suspect that the attempted Russian move to Budapest was a clever "intentional mistake" designed to confuse the Turk. As for Italian builds, the ships are already under construction in Naples... ------ Paris: "Impostor! The one-liner could only come from a country as great as ours! Vive la France!!" ------ Some thoughts from a relatively neutral vantage point.... Russia -- Boy, *this* guy sure went for the northern route...but is he unstoppable or just overextended...and was F rum-bud a joke??? Germany -- what game is he playing?? F Kiel-Helgoland??? That's the first time anyone's ever gone there voluntarily in as long as I remember....and who *has* he told the truth to... Turkey -- Is he really attacking Russia or not??? A *real* attack would have been A bul-rum, F con-bla, A ank-arm... so far this guy's been relatively ineffective... Italy -- Does this chap have any hope of winning, or even being a factor??? having said he won't attack trieste and that he won't go into the west med area, what's bloody left??? Britain -- Moving a fleet rather than an army to Norway was short-sighted, and may kill him in the long run...then again, if he'd convoyed he would have screwed up Norway as well, and gotten *no* build... Austria -- with 4 armies and a fleet, is going to be in position to rip out the soft underbellies of Germany and Russia, to rule the Balkans, or to knock italy into the stone age in 2 years...stay tuned... ------ Oslo to Stockholm: "Die Russian Dogs!" ------ Moscow(UP) - The Czar is sending his congratulations to Italy on the fine new class of ships that the Apulia shipyards are producing. We may be interested in purchasing plans to construct a few ourselves. The choice of location was wise as well, with such a strategic coverage of the Adriatic supply routes to Greece. ------ Moscow(UP) - The Czar is sorry that the Sultan could not return to Sevastopol this Fall, and suggests that next time he should use boats, or better yet, vacation in Greece in the Spring. Since our Sherpas refused to portage our ships, our Budapest vacation plans have been delayed indefinitely. The Sherpas are delayed permanently. On a more serious note, please consider the F Const-Aegean Sea option. On second thought, support Bulg with Const and build a fleet in Smyrna for the Aegean. This would keep you safe and give you more power in the Balkans. ------ Moscow(UP) - The recruitment drive of the Warsaw army was an overwhelming success due to the beer train from the Kaiser. Please send more. A small donation would help ensure that the Austrian pretender, claiming to be the crown prince, will be deposed. Feel free to lend an army too, maybe in Bohemia. Silesia is RIGHT OUT! as it is Spring planting there (but not in Bohemia). Much of Austria is rightfully part of the Germanic empire. Act now to prevent Italian rule over those fine Germans. ------ London(AP) - In a shocking surprise, the Queen held a press conference today. She has denounced the Russian agression into the Scandanavian countries, saying that she has personally visited the leaders recently and all of them have an utlimate hatred for the Russian Czar. She feels that the "welcoming" reports are a fake and that the Russian propaganda ministry has been working overtime. She has called on the Kaiser to help he in stopping this agression. Also, it has been reported that the Czar and Czarina are having major difficulties as of late. The Queen told the reporters that during he trip through Scandanavia, she had a chance to talk with the Czarina and the latter told her that she is is afraid that Czar Nickolas is mad. She has also issued this official comunique to Germany and France - "Please stop fighting each other, we have more important matters facing to our East. I call on both of these great nations to join me in stopping the agression that is sure to overtake us if we do not cooperate. ------ Moscow(UP) - Current plans are for the Rumanian fleet to continue to provide support to the Bulgarian defence forces. ------ Stockholm to Oslo: "Bloody English pigs, we will crush you!!" ------ Berlin (CNN) The German government leaked the following communique to the international press agencies: "The Kaiser hinted that due to the large quantities of alcohol being shipped to the Czar, the Fatherland must search for alternate sources to satisfy the populace. Rumors abound that the Kaiser thirsts for fine Burgundian wine." ------ Berlin (CNN) The German government today released this communique to heads of state around the world: "An anarchist espionage cell was discovered today by a special elite section of KRAP (piece of krap??), the Deutschland Undercover Murdering Bastards (First Unit of Crazed Killers). This cell, it is believed, has been responsible for much of the black press, and almost all of the really bizarre stuff. The Kaiser's evil twin Herr Resiak was reportedly the ringleader, and it is believed that after this discovery there will be no more disinformation emanating from Germany." ==> Now that we've all seen what black press is and can do, how many still want it??? I'm abstaining from 'espionage' until the votes are in. "The Kaiser notes the presence of strong Russian forces in Scandinavia and would like to make clear that he feels no need for the Russians to move into the Baltic Sea, Denmark, or the German Coastline in their efforts to gain control of the North Atlantic, as it is possible for a fleet to obtain the Norwegian coast via Sweden. The Kaiser also notes, however, that he is open to discussions with Britain and Russia on the maintenance of some semblance of order in Scandinavia." ------ Moscow(UP) - Czar Nicholas to Prime Minister Highbrow: Go South! We would suggest that your most fruitful area of exploration lay southward, as the North is obviously happy with Russian protection from outside influence. Attacking our German ally is, of course, out of the question, whatever you do. Please consider this. Maybe England and Germany can settle the Belgian question before someone else squeezes in? In any case, France has nowhere to go but north or East, so watch out! ------ France is advised not to build a fleet in Marseille. Go Brest, young man. [GM Note: and I thought *I* was a horrible punster. --ckd] ------ England to France & Germany: Support _*ME*_ into Belgium and you got a deal! ------ London (BBC) - An internal investigation has been ordered to find out who screwed up the previous orders. Currently, two posiibilities exist, 1) that burning the midnight oil has finally caught up with the Prime Minister, and 2) that there is a spy in the midst. Currently the spy possibility is the one being looked into more seriously, since the Prime Minister is known to be of strong constitution. It is felt that the spy is more than likely from Russia and all available personnel have been assigned to find him/her. ------ The *extremely real* Crown Prince of Albania would like to state that all of you are certifiable knee-biters and he would like to challenge all of you to simultaneous one-on-one duels. ------ Istanbul to Paris (Reuters): "Meet you in Rome..." ------ Sofia to Sarajevo (Reuters): ``Troops loyal to the Sultan here have sent out feelers to the companion Austrian army headquartered in Serbia. Orders direct from the Ministry of War indicate that the Bulgarians are to support the Crown Prince's forces into Romania in exchange for a naval base in Athens.'' ------ Moscow(UP) - The Czar to France (whatever form of government you have now): Go for England before he wises up to the fact that he can't defend the north. His centers are avai Up
