Press: ------ The German government, fearing the worst after recent Soviet treaty violations and an unnerving silence from Russian leaders, mobilized troops on the Soviet border today. This follows the recent militarization of Soviet-occupied Poland. "Hopefully, this is just a false alarm," stated the Kaiser. ------ Turkey: Despite silly objections from the Italians, the Turkish fishing fleet is having successfull harvests this spring. We can't wait to try fishing in canals in the fall. ------ MADRID (UPI): News of the arrival of the French fleet came as a shock to authorities in both Spain and France, as the IRELAND directive had been issued. It seems that a childhood sweetheart of the captain lives in Spain, and he feared for her safety. No official action has been taken at this time. ------ London (Reuters) - His Majesty the Prime Minister is in a bit of a fog about the Spring Anglo-German French offensive. He was quoted as saying, "Maybe the Trans-Channel cable broke down again. We hope that the BEF's move to Picardy will help attack the Germans attack the heart of France later on. We also hope that the Kaiser will inform the BEF as to their plans in France in later months." ------ Pravda (Moskva): A series of explosions rocked the Kremlin during a Politburo meeting on Sunday. A number of children visiting the Kremlin Museum were killed and injured, although the number of survivors was undisclosed. The Moscow militia has apprehended two Serbian saboteurs hours after the explosions. An official statement has not been released. ------ Rome (AP) - The Pope today offered to support the Serbian army in an attack on Trieste. "We feel that this is an offer that the Turks can't refuse. If they insist on continuing to attack us, Russia will easily grow to twice their size. I am especially amused by the Russian suggestions that they send the last Turkish army out of Bulgaria and into Venice. This would leave Rumania free to attack Bulgaria, Constantinople, and Ankara without opposition." Whether or not the Turkish leaders decide to accept the Italian offer, it is not expected that they will make significant progress this year in expanding their territorial fishing grounds. ------ WSGB Diplomacy #2 - DILITHIUM - "The War Begins!" Press: ------ Germany to France: "Want to crush a Witch?" ------ France today mobilized against Germany to protect against a possible invasion, which intelligence sources have predicted. If the sources are wrong, the troops will be pulled away from the border to reduce tension with the Germans. As one military official said, "It's for our own safety. We have nothing against the Germans but one rumor, and we hope the rumor is wrong." ------ Istanbul (AP): ``The Sultan announced contingency plans with both the Czar and the Emperors of the Dual Monarchy. A spokesman for His Highness' Court commented, "We are prepared to accept offers from both sides concerning the fate of the rebellious Balkan states that have seceded first from our empire and now the Habsburg's. At the same time, we wish no open animosity with our northern neighbor concerning the joint territorial waters of the Black Sea.'' ------ Germany to England: "How about the Ice Queen?" ------ His Majesty Prince Iago Borgia Machiavelli proclaims this turn to be the beginning of a new era of Italian greatness and budget deficits. ------ Istanbul to St. Petersburg (AP): ``Remember Russia-Turkey is one of the strongest alliances on the board.'' ------ Berlin (CNN) The German government today released a communique to heads of state around the world. Excerpts from the text follow: "It is hoped that a strong friendship with the British can be formed. The French have already indicated that they would like closer ties with the British, but it is difficult to see how two countries with no true buffer between them can long stay at peace. One suspects that even should the British and French ally, they will soon become enemies, as one country or the other moves into the English Channel." "The Reichstag has given a vote of confidence to the suggestions of the Kaiser in the areas of the Tyrole and Burgundy, but has requested that units of the Kriegsmarine stand to off the coast in support of troops moving in to restore order in Holland, wracked by a freak North sea tsunami. It is hoped that the British will move in units of the Royal Marines to help the civil defense authorities in Belgium, also hard hit by the storm. As a result of the storm, the forces which were to have helped prop up the benign but inefficient government of Sweden will not be able to arrive before the winter, and it is hoped that Russian forces will be able to help the Swedes prepare for what is expected to be a hard winter." NOTE : Yes, folks, I *do* know that a tsunami is not bloody likely in the North Sea, but I felt we'd heard enough about earthquakes for a little while... ------ France to England: "What do you mean YOUR channel?" ------ Budapest - The Crown Prince, in response to messages from the Italian and Turkish ambassadors, told the press this morning that "We hope for good relations with the Italians and Germans in these trying times and hope that they understand the reasons for sudden unexplained moves. To our new friends the Turks, we suggest combined moves towards our common enemy, the Russians. Their early containment can lead to peace in the Balkans and Turkish control of the Mediterranean Sea. ------ London(Reuters) -- The Prime Minster today indicated the "great desire of the fleets to get back to sea," and stated that he "would like to know more" about the French proposals, but that he "might have to resrve judgement." ------ London (AP) - In a noon conference, Prime Minister Highbrow announced to a cheering crowd that English fleets will not enter the English Channel due to the dangerous weather conditions that have already caused several small ships to go down. He has been pressed for several days now to make that area a danger zone and prohibit any and all fleets from entering. He has also warned other countries of the danger since he is concerned about all people of the world. He has also announced that the English first division will soon be going on an expeditionary force, though he did not specify where. ------ Istanbul to Roma (Reuters): ``Go west, young man...'' ------ -- Christopher Davis, BU SMG '90 <ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu> <smghy6c@buacca.bitnet> "Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand."
