German A Bur may retreat to the Ruhr or disband. PRESS: Rome (AP) - ITALY SIGNS MUTUAL SUPPORT TREATY WITH PREVIOUS ENEMY AUSTRIA In a desperate move designed to hopefully thwart the Turkish advance, the Pope today signed a cease-fire with the Austrian ambassador. It is rumored that Germany supports this alliance, hoping that it will aid him in his fight against France. Military analysts are skeptical about this, however, since it seems the Italian fleets will be engaged in the vicinity of the Ionian for the next few years. ------ Germany: The Kaiser concluded peace talks with the Pope and both sides have agreed to a ceasefire. The German government has requested that the Pope permit German forces presently on Italian soil to remain for the time being, as they are in a strategic location for use against the common enemy, France. ------ Pravda (Moskva) In a press conference today, Comrade General Secretary Gorbachev clarified the Soviet Scandinavian policy. "Several miscreants in the Ministry of Foreign affairs were caught red-handed in miscalculating English naval strength. They are currently in charge of snowfall measurements in northern Siberia. Of course, the Norwegian ore shipments are crucial to the Anglo-German war effort against the French, and we will restrain the Arctic Windsurfing Club from visiting Norway until such ore can be secured from the continent." In a subsequent interview, a Soviet-English-German summit was announced. The title of the summit is tentatively "Mutual Trust in Scandinavia, or How the Hell Do We Get Our Units out of There And Somewhere Useful Without Our Allies Grabbing Our Territories." In a gesture of apology, the Presidium voted unanimously to send several crates of vodka to the English Navy, and to assist selected regiments of the German army in obtaining a one year tour of the Venetian canals, beginning in September. NEWSFLASH: Several summit planners have been executed for accidentally including a portion of a private memo in the tentative title. A front page editorial in the influential Communist Party Newsletter 'Iskra' today praised the continuing collaboration with the Ottoman Empire. "The cooperation between the armed forces obviates the need for expensive border patrols and allows both nations to devote energy to other pursuits. The People's Republic of Austria will surely be demilitarized by our great nation's leaders and the Austria people will surely benefit by the increased economic interaction with the Italian Caliphate of the Ottoman Empire; as a result, the peaceful people of the Balkans will surely require only minimal supervision by police forces of each side." The Ministry of Publications today reported an increase in production of the immensely popular Turkish-Russian dictionary. The waterproof paperback version is to be issued to Red Army regiments in preparation of their future cooperation with Turkish Marines. The 3-language version of this volume is currently in pre-production. ------ Turkey: When questioned about a secret agreement whereby Russia has agreed not to interfere in Italy in return for recognition of Russian sovereignty over Austria-Hungary the Sultan replied: "First of all we have not declared war on Italy, though tensions are high because of our desire to have free use of the Med. Secondly we have recognized Russia's obvious right to rule Austria-Hungary as a natural extension of their territory that was previously managed by a corrupt and ruthless goverment. This stands on its own merits and does involve any secret agreements." ------ London (Reuters) - His Majesty the Prime Minister held a press conference today concerning the latest Continental offensive by the BEF. He was quoted as saying, "Despite some rumours to the contrary that were no doubt begun by the pro-French government in Belgium, the BEF is not planning to attack Germany. In fact, we thank the Germans for their hospitality in granting the BEF a winter camp in the first place. By the end of April, King Leopold's usurpers will be removed from Belgium, and we will persue them if they retreat, even if they return to France." In other news, Swedish iron ore is being sent to York via Norway in order to boost the shipbuilding industry. The Chancellor of the Exchequer said today, "If this iron ore reaches York by the winter, the Royal Navy will be able to help the oppressed people of the Iberian peninsula. However, until then the Royal Navy will be using all of its available manpower in the French offensive, or in the transportation of the iron ore." ------ Switzerland: "Heard on the Street" around the continent... Moscow - The Turks are trusting fools. We will crush them beneath our feet when the time comes! Ankara - It is rumored that the Turkish high command is uneasy about the proposed division of the Austrian territories. It is felt that Soviet control of Budapest would greatly weaken their holdings in Serbia and Trieste. It is said that they are looking for either Budapest or Vienna in return for continued support. ------ WASHINGTON (UPI): The State Department released its analysis of the European conflict today. Noting that France appeared to be the early favorite, it rated its success in the face of united opposition to be slim. It further noted that the two next largest powers, Turkey and Russia, had formed a strong alliance that was being ignored by the remainder of Europe in their zeal to dismantle France. Thus, they predicted a joint victory between those two powers, barring changes in strategy by the participants. ------ Anti-French riots exploded today in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Stalingrad. Police forces stood idle while patisseries, boulangeries, cafes, and restarants were demolished by enraged mobs. ------ -- Christopher Davis, BU SMG '90 <ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu> <smghy6c@buacca.bitnet> "Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand."
