And a reminder note. -ckd] PRESS: Turkey recognizes Russian Sovereignty over all Austrian home centers and will provide aid in the attack on Trieste. It is anticipated that after Austria falls that the armies currently stationed in Serbia and Albania will retreat to Bulgaria and Serbia to remain on garison. The fleet in Ankara will be moving to Constantinople so that it may be profitably used in the Med. ------ London (Reuters) - The Russian five point plan reached Parliament today, and the concensus was that the plan is quite reasonable. The only real dissention was over the dispute in Norway. His Majesty the Prime Minister was quite happy that the Russians are not siding against the German-English alliance, but said that Swedish iron ore is needed by the Royal Navy, and the easiest way for the ore to be sent to England is via an alliance with Norway. His Majesty the Prime Minister was quoted as saying, "The reason why we're not building to the Royal Navy this year is because the Swedish iron ore did not get to York in time to use in shipbuilding. How can we help the oppressed people of the Iberian peninsula if we can't build ships?" In other news, the BEF is now ready to aid the oppressed Belgians in throwing out the pro-French government that ousted King Leopold. Once King Leopold is reinstated, the BEF will again help the Germans to attack the murderous French armies that have already devastated Tunisia, Belgium, and Portugal. King Leopold himself made the best quote this month about the French. While in exile in London, he said, "Frogs have historically always liked pond scum, and you are what you live in." Meanwhile, the men of the Royal Fleet in the Channel are said to be furious over a prank played on them by the French. Evidently, all the champagne made by the French prior to 1901 that was sent to England is really gingerale. It is assumed that the Channel Fleet will now harass the French coastline throughout the coming year. ------ The German government has reportedly requested that the Soviet Union formally recognize Norway as a British protectorate. In return, the Kaiser has offered to recognize the revolutionary government of the People's Republic of Austria as the legitimate government of the formerly Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Kaiser was quoted as saying, "While we certainly consider the Soviet government to be our friends and allies, the German government feels that the present conflict over Norway is distracting from the main effort against France. Therefore we ask that the Soviet and British governments agree to preserve the current status quo in Scandinavia." In other news, military analysts agree that the current French-installed Belgian regime is likely to collapse within months. Sources within the landwehr indicate the likelihood of King Leopold's forces, presently camped in the Ruhr region with the British Expeditionary Force, counterattacking into Belgium with assistance from Royal Navy elements in the North Sea. This, coupled with a diversionary attack on Picardy by the Royal Marines, would guarantee the fall of the pro-French government in Belgium. The Kriegsmarine is believed to be returning to Holland in order to cut off all possible retreat. This whole paragraph is, of course, just a rumor. German and Italian diplomats met cautiously over the possibility of a ceasefire. After the Pope's Christmas Mass in which he slurred the French as "dirty, rotten froggies" the Italian government has sought to negotiate Italy's entry into the alliance against France. German officials have suggested that Italian forces either attempt to retake Tunis or move fleet units westwards, in a generally French direction. ------ Grey: (AP) Rome, Italy. The value of the lire plummeted today as Soviet and Turkish leaders signed a pact guaranteeing Turkish interests in Italy. "This is some nefarious plot of the Eastern Orthodox sect against the true religion!" said the Pope angrily. -- Christopher Davis, BU SMG '90 <ckd@bu-pub.bu.edu> <smghy6c@buacca.bitnet> "Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand."
