TAC AIR From: Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1990 03:17:05 +0000 SUBJECTS: e-mail die-rolling, TAC AIR pbm I have been thinking of a quick way to get dice rolls when playing games by e-mail. Whenever you send a message (your moves) then the system will include the time the message was sent, down to 1/100th of a second. (or a 1/50th (1/60th) second on a PC ). This value divided by 2 (to make PC's enable odd numbers), and rounded down will give a value in the range [0;49]. LABEL: To get a roll of a die you could then add 3 (to ensure no zero value), square the number (multiply by itself) and keep only the last 2 digits. This value is then a percent value in the range [0;99] and this can be used to simulate a die-roll. To get further values you should continue at LABEL I have not tested the algorithm, but there is probably one of you who will do it. This method gives always instant die-rolls, and I don't know if it possible to cheat without having SuperUser priveleges. (Even then you must hit within 1/50th of a second) IS THERE ANY "TAC AIR" (AH) PLAYERS OUT THERE ? I am interested in playing TAC AIR by e-mail, is there any others that want that too ? We could play using either basic or advanced rules, and maybe even multi-player teams in an umpired game like suggested in the rules. This would then require a GM who redirects mail between team players able to communicate. Please contact me, and I will try to coordinate it all so that we can get a game (or more) started. Discussion about adaption of rules is also welcome. I can only read news (via ftp) so I need someone who will redirect further news from me, and take the load off Eric's shoulders. ======================================================================== | Povl H.
