Several hundred civilians were reported missing, presumed drowned as Russian troops refused to lend aid to those who jumped from their burning ships. These reports have been confirmed by survivors rescued by Rumania fishermen. As Turk troops moved into position to defend their northern coast, Austrian officials denounced the Russian attack as being barbaric. Meanwhile, no evidence has been produced to support the Russian claim that the Turkish fishing vessels were in the process of attempting a sneak attack against Sevastopol. "What fool would attack the Czar's empire with a fishing boat?!" exclaimed one Austrian diplomat who had just returned from meetings in Constantinople. Austrian citizens in Galicia demanded immediate protection against the Russian Army positioned just miles from the Galicia-Rumania-Ukraine border. Military experts predicted that Rumania, without a major defense force for the last several decades, would be the next logical target for the "Russian barbarians". They anticipate a bloody battle as the Turkish army continue their movement up the east coast of Bulgaria. While Austria's own southern command continue to work in grief stricken Serbia, plans are being made to support Turkey "in whatever way necessary" said one official. When asked if this extended to the building of a stronger Mediterranean Fleet, the offical responded "If you mean a *Turkish* Mediterranean Fleet, yes. Our own resources are best used to defend the peace in eastern Europe and that means we need to build a stronger army." There are conflicting reports arriving from areas in western Tyrolia where Italian police units moved to quell riots which erupted after months of brewing civil unrest. Tyrolian officals claim that the move by Italy was unnecessary, that "matters were under control" while Italian sources report that German agents were secretly at work to undermine the efforts of the recently concluded peace conference held in Rome last week. Germany's absence from both that and the Tyrolia governing meeting and their military action against Denmark seem to all support Italy's claim. Meanwhile, the unrest experienced in Tyrolia seems to have spread to bordering areas of the Bohemia region and to the suburb slums of Munich. While French newspapers reported the recent developments of their wine and martini industry, there was no mention of the army exercises in the Burgandy region near the German Border. Commented one Austrian reporter, "If we can see the war from Budapest, surely the French can see the war from Paris". England ------- The King of England still wishes to avoid a war with Russia. I hope the Csar realizes that he has worse enemies to fear than England. "We have no desire to occupy St. Petersburg or Sweden." The King is still hoping to receive information from France and Germany concerning their intentions. England will not attack if not provoked. To France - I would like to declare the sea provinces of NAO, Irish Sea, English Channel, and MAO as neutral. ie. neither of us will send fleets there. After you move to Portugal, moving to MAO will not be considered a kind move by the king considering the threat it imposes on Liverpool. Is that acceptable? To Germany - What sort of neutral zone would you like to work out? To France and Germany - what's going to happen to the poor Belgians? Italy ----- Venice(CNN) - An emergency shipment of every kind of Italian olive known was made today to the Martini Project in France. Rome(CNN) - The Austrian and Italian War Ministers Meet with French England and Russia Late for Meeting Rumors of an Austrian-Italian-French Alliance are getting stronger here as we get reports of high level planning meetings in progress for future campaigns. (The Italians wish to point out that F Ion-Gre, A Ven sup A Try-Tri would garauntee an Italian build at the expense of Austria, but in the interest of future cooperative efforts, this option was disregarded.) Russia ------ Moscow Daily News The Czar went berzerk! Upon hearing that Russia is dead meat in the game between powers in Europe, the Czar had a nervous break down and had to be rushed to a nearby mental facility. After the administered drugs took affect, the Czar was quoted as saying, " Tea in Moscow? Tea in Moscow? Tea in Moscow?" Turkey ------ The Austria and Turkey have signed a peace treaty and will work together to defend against their northern aggressor. Meanwhile, Turkish forces continue to pound on Russian forces and have gained considerable ground due to the ineptness of the Russian generals. =============================================================================== VERSAILLES: Winter 1901 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BUILDS Austria: 3 A Bud, A Tri, A Vie England: 1 F Edi France: 2 A Mar, A Par Germany: 2 A Mun, A Kie Italy: 1 F Nap Russia: -1 (A Fin) Turkey: 2 A Con, F Ank POSITIONS Austria: 6 A War Ser Bud Tri Vie F Gre England: 4 A Nwy F Nws Nts Edi France: 5 A Spa Bur Mar Par F Por Germany: 5 A Hol Ruh Mun Kie F Den Italy: 4 A Tyr Ven F Tun Nap Russia: 3 A Ukr F Bla Swe Turkey: 5 A Bul Sev Con F Arm Ank =============================================================================== VERSAILLES: Spring 1902 ---England----------------------------------Turkey----------------------------- A Nwy - STP |A BUL S (A Sev - Rum) CUT (Ser) F Nws - NWY |A SEV - Rum BOUNCE (Bud) F Nts - SKA |A CON S (A Bul H) F Edi - NTS |F ARM S (F Ank - Bla) ---France-------------------------------|F Ank - BLA A Spa - GAS |---Germany---------------------------- A BUR S ITA (A Tyr- Mun) |A HOL S ENG (F Nth - Bel) NSO A MAR S (A Bur H) |A RUH S (A Mun - Bur) A Par - PIC |A Mun - Bur FAIL (Ret. ???) Do something! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trieste (AP) --- With a grand total of only three fleets in the whole Mediterranean, it does not appear that any serious battle will be fought on the sea anytime soon. With that news, the Austrian fleet (if it can be called that) decided to continue their liberty call in beautiful, historic, peaceful Greece. With France, Italy, and Germany doing battle over Munich, Austria has decided now is not the time to investigate the reported problems in the Tyrolia region. "They brought their troubles upon themselves..." said one official. Austrian troops in Serbia, eager to see real battle after months of civic duty, marched on Bulgaria. "We need to learn the secret of the Turkish army before it is too late!" commented the general of the southern Austrian forces. Not ready to pass front page coverage on to the southern forces, the general of the northern Austrian forces ordered his troops to Moscow where they were to take up positions defending the Czar's empire from the terror of war. When asked to identify the enemy, the general replied "I'm confused. One minute we are told that the Russia fleet in Sevastopol were barbarians. Next we are told to prepare to support the Russians back into Sevastopol. I'm confused..." Scientists were asked to test the water for a substance which could cause such confusion by first the Czar, and now the top military mind of Austria. Reports of Italian/Austrian, French/Italian, and French/Italian/Austrian treaties of alliance have been heard from Paris to Budapest. "We can trust these people. They like wine and we have none; why would they attack us?" commented one drunk official. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Eiffel Stump Paris (ABC) - In another press conference, President L'Pew has announced that the Italians are most welcome in the Western Med area. In the event that things heat up in the north, their fleet would be most useful to quelch the uprising. He has also informed the English Prime Minister that he is most grateful that the current building of the fleet occured in the northernmost shipyards of England since it would signify a friendly relation between our two nations. He has formally requested the Austrian help in the destruction of the evil German empire. Later in the day, he announced that the Marseilles' army will go on maneuvers to the north at the first opportunity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The King of England regrets to announce the continuing hostilities with the peoples of Russia. Russian troops in Finland and Sweden were seen coveting Nordish women, and the English gentlemen in Norway have vowed to revenge this most heinous of crimes. In fact, the Finnish garrison was already seen fleeing the area as a reconnaissance of BEF troops stormed ashore. England ->France - We understand your desire to move to MAO, and we are glad to hear that NAO and the Irish Sea have been declared neutral. The mere fact that you did not build a fleet in Brest is proof enough of your peaceful intentions toward England. Considering Italy's claim in last Winter's press of moving to the Western Med, however, you might reconsider moving to the southern coast of Spain in order to protect your southern flank. England ->Germany - You are quite correct in stating that friends do not need neutral zones. I hope you will understand, however, when I ask that you do not enter the North Sea. As you can tell by my moves this Spring, the people of England have no desire to advance to Belgium or to any other province on the continent. If you are kind enough this Fall to support our fleet in Skagerrak in its quest to capture Sweden (or the fleet in Norway in the event that our fleet does not make it to Skagerrak), we will return your kind gesture at some future date when you ask for our help. After Sweden is secure, I hope you will consider stationing your fleet in Berlin. If so, I will vacate Sweden and the North Sea so that our peoples can live in peace. GM NOTES: Well, we're rolling again. I need a retreat from Germany, and press from all of you. The deadline is midnight Friday, EST. Even if you don't have anything to say, I would appreciate it if you would drop me a note to let me know you are still alive. The deadline for the fall moves will be Wednesday, January 10. I expect everybody will be able to meet the deadline. =============================================================================== That's it for now! (I'm having trouble contacting the German player but the game seems to be moving again.) Cheers! Lord Valentine Referenced By Up
