I attempt to get digs at all countries equally. I do, however, appreciate the help I often get. :-) This game is starting to look interesting again! I can't wait to see the next move. And here's some new press, juicier than ever..... :-) PRESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zurich (UPI) - The British ambassador today officially denounced the Austrian empire and blamed the entire conflict on their aggression. He was quoted saying, "If we could manage to defeat those Austrians, there would be peace by now in this world and everybody would be happy. The English are peace loving people, we don't even use physical force against our prisoners. All we are trying to do is bring happiness and prosperity to Europe." We invite them to visit our beautiful POW camps and see for themselves. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- London (BBC) - After ducking yet another slipper bombardment, Lord Smedley, red faced and walking very gingerly, finally was able to deliver a message. The message was, "Aahhhh...." Confused, the reporters milled around until his secretary, also red faced and walking gingerly, appeared wearing a very low cut blouse. Apparently Lord Smedley had prepared a speech that he forgot for some reason, so his secretary delivered instead. "...We are appalled at the invasion of one of our colonies by the French. We demand the immediate surrender of the intruding army." Meanwhile, French forces supplied with the newly captured weapons prepared to march on Munich. It does not seem likely that the French will retreat from their new found prestige without a fight. One indignant general is quoted as saying, "They said we can't fight? We'll show them how we can fight!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marseilles (UPI) - French citizens the world round are cheering the revenge of the lost Brigade. In attempting a peaceful retreat to Apulia, the 21st Brigade was fiercely met by the treacherous Italian 2nd fleet. Vowing revenge, the entire contingent of the French Mediterranean unit converged on Naples, vowing to sink every last dinghy in the Italian Navy. This Spring, the attack on the Italian Navy began. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Serbia (AP) - Chalk up yet another victory for the now famous Italian Liberation Forces. This time, they have managed to stage an amazing coup by assassinating the Austrian ruler. No one is quite sure how they did it, but sources in Vienna say that the Austrian ruler was vacationing in Serbia at the time of the Italian vacation. Despite the heavy security around his palace, a well placed mortar shell fell through the palace roof, landing in his bedroom killing both him and his mistress. Friends of the family privately say that his wife gave the Italian Liberation Forces the inside information necessary to kill him. =============================================================================== CONSTITUTION: Fall 1910 ---Austria---------------------------------England---------------------------- A SEV - Mos CUTS |A BER - Mun FAIL A UKR S (A Sil - War) |A PRU S (A War H) A Alb - SER |A War S ITA (A Ser - Bud) (Disband) A Sil - WAR |A STP S (A Lvn - Mos) A BUL S (A Alb - Ser) |A Lvn - MOS A GAL S (A Sil - War) |A MUN - Bur FAIL A VEN S ITA (A Rom H) CUT (Tus) |A HOL - Bel BOUNCE (Bur) A TYR - Mun FAIL |F Bal - DEN A TRI S (A Ven H) |F Nts - LON F AEG - Ion FAIL |F Nao - MID F ION - Nap CUTS |F GoB - BAL ---France-------------------------------|F Nws - NTS A TUS - Ven CUTS (2:2) |---Russia----------------------------- A Bel - WAL |A Mos S ENG (A War H) CUT (Disband) A BUR - Bel BOUNCE (Hol) |---Italy------------------------------ F APU S (A Tus - Ven) |A Ser - GRE F NAP S (F Tys - Rom) CUT (Ion) |F ROM - Nap FAIL F TYS - Rom FAIL (1:1) |-------------------------------------- F ECH C (Bel - Wal) | ----------------------------------------- POSITIONS Austria: 11 A Sev Ukr Ser War Bul Gal Ven F Aeg Ion Tyr Tri England: 11 A Ber Pru StP Mos Mun Hol F Den Lon Mid Bal Nts France: 7 A Tus Wal Bur F Apu Nap Tys Ech Italy: 2 A Gre F Rom Russia: 0 ELIMINATED SUPPLY CENTERS Austria: 12 Bud Vie (Gre) Rum Bul Con Ven Sev Ank Smy Tri SER WAR England: 12 Edi Lvp Lon Hol Den Nwy Kie Swe Ber StP (War) Mun MOS France: 8 Mar Par Bre Spa Por Tun Bel NAP Italy: 2 Rom (Nap) (Ser) GRE Russia: 0 (Mos) BUILDS Austria: 1 A Vie England: 1 A Lvp France: 1 F Bre FINAL POSITIONS Austria: 12 A Sev Ukr Ser War Bul Gal Ven F Aeg Ion Tyr Tri Vie England: 12 A Ber Pru StP Mos Mun Hol Lvp F Den Lon Mid Bal Nts France: 8 A Tus Wal Bur F Apu Nap Tys Ech Bre Italy: 2 A Gre F Rom Russia: 0 ELIMINATED PRESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Paris (AP) --- Upon hearing Lord Smedley's demand for the immediate surrender of the 2nd Army, Chancellor Borge was at first appalled. The army moved to Belgium under entreaties by both Belgian representatives, and Turkish representatives in discussions underway in Zurich. Upon investigation though, it appeared that the French General was forced to invade Belgium after losing a craps game. In order to appease the angered British Lord, Chancellor Borge immediately ordered the unit to surrender to the British. Rather than attempt to enter Munich to surrender, the 4th fleet arranged ferry services for the army to surrender directly to the Lord at his manor. It is sincerely hoped that the English are not overly upset over a simple little wager and accept this surrender without inciting a full scale border war. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moscow (AP) --- Will wonders never cease! The lone Russian unit, deeply entreched in the ruins of Moscow, has fought off attack after attack for the last few seasons. At first, nobody thought they'd last even the first few months, but they've managed to hang in there. Citizens of Moscow have been heard to proclaim that Elvis Presley was brought to Moscow by an Alien ship to lead the Last Stand. While the truth is probably much different, there's no secret that they almost took Warsaw this Spring with a little help from those amazing guerillas, the Italian Liberation Forces. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greece (UPI) --- The Italian Liberation Forces were welcomed in Greece as saviors. The citizens of Athens danced in the streets to celebrate the release from the infamous Austrian brutality. "They wouldn't let us grow any olives, would you believe it?" exclaimed one farmer. However, it looks like the end may be in sight for the Italians. They will probably make their final stand this coming spring. =============================================================================== CONSTITUTION: Spring 1911 ---Austria---------------------------------England---------------------------- A SEV S (A War - Mos) |A BER S (A Mun H) A UKR S (A War - Mos) |A PRU - War BOUNCE (Gal) A SER S (A Bul - Gre) |A STP S (A Mos H) A War - MOS |A Mos S (A Pru - War) FAIL (Ret. What a move. It looks like France is going under.... It seems that Austria and England finally agree on something! We have a proposal for an Austrian-English draw, though I am almost tempted to vote against it myself (this game has gotten fun again). It looks like one or the other will win, but I wouldn't place odds as to which! PRESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Geneva (AP) --- The French invasion of Wales has added some life to the nearly dead peace talks, now in their eleventh year. It seems the English want to end the war at any cost before the French establish a permanent garrison on Great Britain. The French, giddy from victory over the Italians, think they can rule the world. Field Marshall Gloire is optimistic that the French can win a two-front war while outnumbered on each front. "I don't care if the English pig-dogs and the Austrian mongrels have more armies than we do. As the Emperor Napoleon said, 'An army marches on its stomach,' and you know how well the French cook and the miserable stuff the English call food." The Austrian position is ambivalent. Where they were once overconfident, they are now reserved. "We will win this war. It will take time, but we are ready to fight on into the 1920's if necessary," the Austrian Chief-of-Staff said. He added, "We would have let the Greeks grow olives if they had put up more resistance to the Italian Liberation Forces. As it stands, I don't think there will be any place left in Greece to grow olives after we get through with those sneaky Italians." Lord Smedley, in disgrace and demoted to sub-alternate under-secretary for sport, is representing the United Kingdom at the peace talks. "We thought we could trust the French. I guess we were wrong. We want peace, even if it means we have to win the war. We will defeat the French in Wales and push them back onto their home soil. We will push the Austrians out of what was once Russia and Germany. Then we will see who will be running Europe." Observers from Italy, Russia, Turkey, Germany, and Switzerland agree that it is unlikely that peace can be negotiated, but the hope remains. Meanwhile, they sit and watch Europe get devasted season after season, year after year, while the Big Three continue the war. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- London (AP) --- The Queen says: First we build fleets, then we build armies; first we invade the north, then we send everyone south; I'm getting dizzy. Lord Smedley promptly gave her some sea-sick pills. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment from a French sympathizer last season --- Arrgggh! I can't believe that England took Moscow and lost Warsaw! If it wasn't for that, he wouldn't get the build, and Austria wouldn't get a build. Now, England is able to defend himself, and France has to worry about Austria winning since Moscow can fall next year. And stupid Italy moved to Greece where he can't take another country. Real Smart! And the new Austria is revelling in his new found power, but is playing so tentatively. He should be attacking, not trying to defend the stupid little Roman Fleet and holding on to Venice. [ed: It seems that the Austrian player took this advice. France stands to lose two centers and England one to this new Austrian menace. Even Italy isn't doing so hot.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEWS FLASH!!!!! FRANCE BEGS ENGLAND FOR MERCY!!!!! --- After being firmly thrashed by the Austrians in the south, and the English in Belgium, the French are now pleading that their former ally grant them forgiveness. "We can't fight!" admitted one general. "Please let our poor lost army return home, and we will aid the English cause in any way we can. And I promise never again to gamble with Turks. They use loaded dice, anyways!" A messenger was dispatched to inform the Queen of this good news, but it seems he arrived too late. It seems that she had decided that the problem was not with her head but with that of Lord Smedley, and promptly relieved him of the burden. No official announcement has been made as to who will succeed him as the English Fleet Admiral, however it is rumored that Princess Buttercup is the likeliest choice. Her naval experience on the pirate ship REVENGE makes her the most qualified candidate. Others being considered include the Russian ex-patriot Tweedle Dumski who despite his madness managed to hold Moscow against overwhelming opposition for 4 years. =============================================================================== CONSTITUTION: Fall 1911 ---Austria---------------------------------England---------------------------- A SEV S (A Mos H) |A BER S (A Mun H) A UKR - War BOUNCE (2:2) |A PRU S (A Liv - War) A SER - Tri BOUNCE (Tyr) |A STP - Mos CUTS A MOS S (A Ukr - War) CUT (StP) |A LIV - War BOUNCE (2:2) A GRE S ITA (F Rom - Swi) ILL |A MUN H A GAL S (A Ukr - War) |A BEL H A PIE S (A Ven H) |A Wal - LVP A TYR - Tri BOUNCE (Ser) |F Hel - HOL A VEN S ITA (F Rom H) CUT (Tus) |F LON - Yor COLLIDE A Boh - SIL |F Mid - IRI F Aeg - ION |F BAL - Liv FAIL F TUN S (F Aeg - Ion) |F Nts - EDI ---France-------------------------------|---Italy------------------------------ A TUS - Ven CUTS (2:2) |A ALB NMR A YOR - Lon COLLIDE |F Rom NMR FAIL (Disband) A Bur - MAR |-------------------------------------- F APU S (A Tus - Ven) | F NAP S (F Tys - Rom) | F Tys - ROM | F Iri - WAL | F Bre - PIC | ----------------------------------------- POSITIONS Austria: 12 A Sev Ukr Ser Mos Gre Gal Pie F Ion Tun Tyr Ven Sil England: 12 A Ber Pru StP Liv Mun Bel Lvp F Hol Lon Iri Bal Edi France: 8 A Tus Yor Mar F Apu Nap Rom Wal Pic Italy: 1 A Alb SUPPLY CENTERS Austria: 15 Bud Vie Rum Bul Con Ven Sev Ank Smy Tri Ser War MOS GRE TUN England: 12 Edi Lvp Lon Hol Den Nwy Kie Swe Ber StP Mun (Mos) BEL France: 7 Mar Par Bre Spa Por (Tun) (Bel) Nap ROM Italy: 0 (Rom) (Gre) BUILDS Austria: 3 A Vie, A Bud, F Tri France: -1 (A Yor) FINAL POSITIONS Austria: 15 A Sev Ukr Ser Mos Gre Gal Pie F Ion Tun Tri Tyr Ven Sil Vie Bud England: 12 A Ber Pru StP Liv Mun Bel Lvp F Hol Lon Iri Bal Edi France: 7 A Tus Mar F Apu Nap Rom Wal Pic Italy: 0 ELIMINATED GM NOTES I took some liberties with this move. Austria failed to send me builds. Italy failed to send me moves. I doubt my assumptions made a difference in either case (Italy couldn't do anything, and Austria probably would have made those builds.) Will Austria be able to break the stalemate in the North or the potential stalemate in the South? Will England be able to take his revenge without allowing Austria to win? These next few moves should decide whether England wins, Austria wins, or we have a 3-way draw. BTW, the England-Austrian draw was voted down. PRESS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ London (AP) --- The Queen has asked the Domestic Austrian Force for assistance in quelching internal rebels. Seeing their recent success over the Italian guerrillas in Albania/Serbia/Greece/Albania, it is hoped that together with the Royal Home Guard they might be able to free Wales from the grip of terrorism. It is believed that the insurgent troops really came across the Irish Sea from the unrecognized state there, rather than from France as was originally believed. Pipe and letter bombs have become a constant threat. The appointment of Kyle McTavish as new Admiral has been held up pending an investigation. =============================================================================== That's all for this issue, folks!
