The first is about discovering other peoples identity. Well I don't know about Eric's feelings on the subject, but in my opinion it is against the rules of Gunboat Diplomacy to communicate, on the subject of this game, in any way except thru the press releases. Of course I have no way of catching ye or proving anything even if I do, and the world of Electronic Protocol is small, so what to do ? Well here are three solutions (1) Ignore the problem - My personnal favourite, all's fair in love and war ... (2) Turn the game into regular diplomacy. - Well if it gets bad, this would be the fairest solution. Or we could introduce a special rule for the occasion along the lines of :- (3) If you name another player and his country, you can get him ( or of course her ), thrown out and you get control of his units. But if ye both 'nuke' each otherin the same season, well I'm sure we're all familiar with Mutually Assured Destruction, i.e. ye're both atomic dust in this game forever more. So since I was asked I'll assume the worst, and my course of action will be (1) above. Unless of course the players ask in numbers exceeding three for one of the others, or if any one can think of a better solution, let me know. GM -> All : The question about conditional moves. For the coming season no way, just forget that one. But for next season depending on the results of this move - sure why not. Conditional press is another matter. I see no reason to ban that at all, in fact it makes perfect sense. By the way could ye all sort ye're press before ye send it, thanks. And if ye do send conditional press put the conditions of printing above EACH conditional piece - in simple english. GM -> All : Yes this is a tad late, about two weeks I think. Yes it is a fault at this side, but not mine. We are upgrading our facilities here which means chaos for some time to come. The computer I use - IRUCCIBM - is an IBM 4341, as old as the hills , assembled by Babbage himself. I think they plan to drag it outside, burn it and ceremoniously piss on the ashes. So watch out for address changes - probably to IRUCCVAX or something like that. DEADLINE : Whenever ye get the chance chums ! This has gone beyond funny. So England's retreat or disband asap. ********************************************************************** PRESS ***** Austria to Italy: Venice will be mine! ***** Austria to Russia: Please accept the gift of Budapest as a sign of our loyalty. ***** Austria to Turkey: Please accept the gift of Serbia as sign of our loyalty. ***** Austria-Hungary -> Turkey Please have mercy; I have enough trouble with the Italians. I recommend getting your fleets into the Med as soon as possible so that you don't become bottled up. ***** London, England (AP) The Prime Minister today called a press conference for the purpose of informing the English people of the current hostile situation in Europe as well as a public statement to the other members in the European community of Englands intentions. He noted that the German expansion is the most serious destabilizing threat on the continent and has ordered the English First Fleet, currently in the Channel, to aid the French in neutralizing this threat. He said, "The German threat to continental peace must be dealt with immediately and the English are committed to this task." Commenting on the French production of more naval assets he said, "I realize that the French need naval forces to protect her shores, but I impress upon our neighbors that the ships recently built in Normandy not be used to harass England in any way. An attack on the Channel will be treated as a directed attack upon the Crown and would have serious consequences. Neither of us can afford to beat on each other with such a serious threat as Germany poised to pick up the pieces." He also made the first public mention of the desire for Russian forces to participate in the destruction of Germany, but would neither guarantee nor promise declaring Scandanavia a demilitarized zone. "The English can not set back," he said, "while everyone else increases their production capacity. Our small and isolated island requires that we establish production capabilities on the European mainland. We certainly do not want to take any production centers that are within the sovereign boundaries of the Great Powers. Note that such restraint does not extend to the barbaric Germans." He made no comments concerning the Italians, Turks, or Austro-Hungarians. ***** London (UPI) - Her Majesty was reported to have cheered the German invasion of Belgium. By doing so, France was diverted from attacking England. "Now we shall be able to rid the world of the French pirates". ***** England -> Germany Communique from the office of Foreign Affairs I don't know who is trying to imply that I want your neck. I think that we both could chomp into France, but that damn French fleet in Brest is a pain in the ass. Recommend expansion into the continent. Your multiple fronts make the situation difficult and I have no recommendation for which threat to attack. I may be able to remove some Russian pressure by harassing them. I also recommend that the Turks go for the Russians. The Austria-Hungarians can be effectively bottled up without attacking them; the Italians and Russians will see to this. The Turkish forces can best be used to clean up the Russians. We can not allow the Russians to become strong early or we will all be in trouble. ***** THE PARISIAN PLATITUDE ---------------------- with Jeanne d'Arc This morning the Supreme Commander and Big Cheese of the French Armed Forces, M. Unpetit Dunpetit, proclaimed his horror at the continuing build- up of aggressive Germanic forces in the Lowlands area, and said that if at all possible, he would do everything in his power to prevent any further gains by the German war machine, which he likened to a marauding grizzly bear. In a later statement, Monsieur Dunpetit said that he had no quarrel with the British, and hoped that Italy would co-operate with England and France to 'Hang the Hun'. M Dunpetit also expressed 'profound dismay' at the situation in the Central/East European area, and said that he hoped everything would turn out for the best. He firmly rejected all accusations of speaking only in cliches and platitudes. ***** France -> England If you really wanted peace, you would never have dared to move into the Channel. Prepare for a full onslaught! ***** France -> Germany We should lull England into a false sense of security before we carve him up. ***** France -> Russia Do some damage to England in the North, while I take on England in the south. ***** Germany -> France My move into the lowlands was to ensure that they were secured against the English, and as a measure of your intentions. Thus I shall leave Belgium to you. I hope that my move of last fall did not overly hurt your plans. ***** Germany -> Russia A drive into Austria-Hungary is recommended; we may be able to assist. ***** Germany -> Russia It is not my intention to wage war with you. I will aid you in every way to rid the world of the English scum. ***** Italy -> A/H: Well you've obviously pissed off all of your neighbors. You will be crushed for your lack of foresight. ***** Italy -> England: Just didn't want to leave anyone out! ***** Italy -> England I don't know about Meditteranean expansion, the damn Austria-Hungarian units may not allow it, but it does sound like a good idea. ***** Italy -> France: Obviously our relationship is being undermined by Austrian subversives. There will be no movement toward Marsailles. ***** Italy -> Germany: I'll do my best! ***** Italy -> Russia: Perhaps you should review your use of adjectives. ***** Italy -> Turkey: Things are getting messy for you in the Black Sea area... perhaps I will be of some assistance in the not too distant future. Comments? ***** Russia->England Scandinavia is not for you. Too cold. Head down south toward Marseilles. They have much better weather and not as much military opposition. ***** Russia -> Italy Do not plan to take too much of the spoils. I am willing to share as long as I get the bulk of the booty!. ***** Turkey -> Russia Looks like Budapest will be might tasty in the fall. I might even be inclined to help using Serbia if it doesn't put me too far out of position after this turn. ***** Turkey -> Russia Splitting up the Balkans and Austria-Hungary sounds like an excellent idea. The Austria-Hungarians can not stop our combined efforts as long as the Italian threat is present. I think we can come up with an equitable division of production centers. ***** ********************************************************************** Received: by agora.hf.intel.com (smail2.5) id AA12342; 13 Nov 89 19:15:54 PST (Mon) Return-path: ebrosius <@relay.cs.net:ebrosius@lucy.wellesley.edu> Subject: Fall, 1904 ebrosius%bambam.wellesley.edu@relay.cs.net TANNENBURG (1989HZ) -- Fall and Autumn, 1904 Prospects Bleak for Countries That Begin With Vowels! I decided Tuesday will be cutting it too tight this time since this adjudication is 18 hours late. I need to hear from everyone but Italy this time; he has no orders due, though he may submit press. PRESS: >From the London Weekly Informer: Thousands fled the streets and residencies of Yorkshire this week as the evil German Empire continued its unbridled attack upon England. Several poeple were seen throwing pastries at the German soldiers chanting such insults as: "Take this to your bake sale!" and "German chefs go home!" Apparenly many people are still confused as to the nature and reason for the invasion. It is obvious that it is only a matter of time before the English Capitol is overrun, thus the seat of government is being moved to Stockholm. Only time will tell if the mighty English Emprie can be rebuilt. Germany: Every person having anything to do with the mail system has been shot, and the German Armed Forces is currenltly involved in recruiting new mail clerks. Normal operation will resume shortly. An official press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs >From England: Some blatant and not-so-blatant truths revealed: - Germany and France have a rather strong alliance. Be warned eastern powers. Watch what France is doing along the A-H/German border. - Germany is not to be trusted. A little interesting bit of history. Germany approached us after the fall of '04 asking for support on an attack against Russia in exchange for the return of Edinburgh. Being desirous to have that particular site back, we agreed. However, Germany shrewdly deceived us into thinking that we had a threat to hold off from France, thus not only delaying our recovery of Edinburgh, but opening a foothold for further German advance forces on the British Isles. It is probably too late for us, but be warned! Strike no deals with Germany and France. Despite anything they may have told you, they ARE in league with each other. Be especially wary of one warning about the other. Austria: It was announced in Budapest today that the Austrian Government will surrender this fall to the combined forces of Russia and Turkey. When asked why, the head of Public Relations, Arnold Beastburger, remarked: "We hate those dirty scoundrels, and it grieves us to give up. But we would rather they have our land than those French swine. If there is anything we deplore more than the French, we have yet to find it."
