PBeM Rhand Game, Coming Soon to Stores Near You!! From: mayville@tybalt.caltech.edu (Kevin J. Mayville) Date: Wed, 14 Feb 1990 06:42:33 +0000 Okay, work, classes, and weekly gaming just aren't chewing up enough of my time, so I need to start a PBeM game. This is just a call for players; the game won't actually be starting until sometime in early March (mid-March, if I get too bogged down). I'd prefer if all requests to be in the game were mail to me, instead of posted. This gives me at least a vague clue that there is a functioning path between the two sites. Also, in your requests, please indicate if you'd be willing to help run NPCs if you don't make it into the game immediately. Some features of the game: ------------------------------------------------- 1) I have no idea how many players I'm going to allow in, but it probably won't be more than 10, and *definitely* won't be more than 20. Depends on how much work getting everything ready is. 2) The gaming system used will be drawn more-or-less directly from Rhand: Morningstar Missions by Leading Edge Games. If you don't own a copy of the rules, don't sweat it. I plan on revealing as little of the numbers aspect of the game as possible to the players, and explaining as thoroughly as possible the rules that you'll need to know. 3) Because all of the players are going to be members of a basically military organization (the Orca, for those in the know), their actions are going to be restricted to a significant degree unless they're on an extended mission. I'll try not to be too oppressive about that, tho. Leading ppl by the nose all the time isn't much fun for the GM, either. 4) At least at early stages of the game, the amount of combat involved will be pretty large. Most aspects of the combat will be handled directly by me, but I will ask players to supply their character's basic strategy in combat (brave/cowardly, heavy offense/defense, that kind of thing), and I'll send between-move messages to ppl in their character is in a particularly interesting (for some value of interesting) situation. 5) I am currently running a group here at Caltech through the same scenario I have planned for the net. To whatever degree I can do so, I will include comparisons between the actions of the two groups in any posts/summaries I post to the net. Since my group here includes one of the creators of the game (Rob Calvet....he did the magic system, and was one of the original players), doing better than them would be pretty good. 6) (Speculative) I haven't talked to any of them about it, but it's certainly possible that the game could have the odd surprise guest appearance. For those of you that have the rules and enjoyed the margin quotes, imagine running across Gil the Treacherous or Axly Suregrip (run by the actual ppl that earned their reputations) during the course of the adventure. It could be amusing....I'll have to talk to them on Friday. Well, I think that's about it for now. Oh yes, if you're one of the people that sent me requests for copies of the new Warlock rules (or info about same), I *probably* haven't forgotten you, but hitting me over the head in a mail message certainly wouldn't hurt. Bart hasn't printed up any new copies of the rules lately, and I just have the one, so I've been kinda stuck..... ".....but they made me do it!" -- Kevin mayville@tybalt.caltech.edu Up
