Germany's postal service has resumed functioning after a brief strike by union workers who have been permanently relieved of their duties. Austria has mountains. Italy valleys. It appears that the French Head of State has gone into hiding. Rumours of a potential coup-d'etat have evidently sent France's leader a strong message urging his temporary disappearance. To this date, all PA-Routers correspondents have been executed. Civilian liasions are filtering out information that there will be a public execution of a prominent political figure on midnight 12:00am Monday 1 Jan 1901 with a formal assumption of power by a new goverment immediately thereafter. More as soon as it is heard. ............PA-Routers: The World as YOU want to hear it!............ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Constantinople Constant Official Megaphone of the Porte - Constantinople, Ottoman Empire - 22 Nov 1900 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OLIVE DISASTER IN SYRIA - DROUGHT CRIPPLES PRODUCTION Help Sought from Italy, Greece ALEPPO, Syria (OP) - Record high temperatures combined with a severe drought have crippled production of olives in the orchards of Damascus. Normally the largest olive producer in the known world, this inland province has seen its production plummet to 20% of last year's levels. The Minister of Agriculture, Sulaiman Al-Jandir, has set aside an emergency 10 million lira fund to aid the devastated farmers. "Allah has not been merciful, but we must ensure they are here for next year's harvest," he was quoted as saying from his poolside chair in the inner Porte. The Turkish Academy of Sciences in Uskudar have released a statement that the olive fiasco is an indication that a so-called "greenhouse effect" is warming up the earth, but they were at a loss to explain what a greenhouse was. Meanwhile, the Minister of Trade, to prevent severe olive inflation and ensure a supply of olives for the Turkish market, is on his way to Athens and Rome to talk to officials and olive-growers in Greece and Italy. He could not be reached for comment, but a top aide who asked not to be identified said, "If we cannot get our olives through peaceful negotiation, we shall have to take them by force." SOFIA REPORTS RIOTS - REQUESTS TURKISH AID SOFIA (PA - OP) - The streets of this normally quiet mountain city are punctuated by frequent rifle shots today as police seek to quell a student uprising. When demonstrations last week in Sofia's Tananmenov Square attracted over 10 000 people, the police were called in, but could do little more than contain the crowd, many of whom were themselves armed. Although a dusk-to-dawn curfew was placed over the city last Sunday, the people in the square camped out and were soon joined by thousands more marching through the town, seeking freedom from what they call the Bourgeois Royalist Running-Dog Lackeys Down At The Palace. The King could was not available, nor, unfortunately, was the army, currently engaged in manoeuvres by the River Danube which, we are assured, do not signal a Bulgarian invasion of Rumania. For their part, the demonstrators are mowing down the meagre Bulgarian police force and threatening to take over the entire city. The Palace has requested aid from Turkey to quell the riots, but there is no indication as to whether Turkey will step in. NAVAL MANOEUVRES CALLED OFF ANKARA (OP) - In a dramatic reversal of a previous plan, General Khalif Ar-Niya has called off the planned Turkish Naval manoeuvres in the Black Sea. While Ar-Niya himself gave no reason for the change in plans, sources from within the Porte are saying that a communique was received from St. Petersburg in which the Russian Minister of War said that "it might not be a good idea" for Turkey to go ahead with the action and that he'd "get a little upset and might start to cry a bit." The Turkish Minister of Defense, Mohammed Mohammed Al-Mohammed ibn Mohammed, was conducting a review of the Smyrna Army Base and could not be reached. The Turkish fleet is currently scattered in various ports along the northern coast and it is estimated that it will take until June or July of next year to get it completely resupplied, seaworthy and back in Constantinople Naval Base. LONDON (PA-Routers): FIERCE STORM LASHES NORTHERN ATLANTIC A fierce storm ravaged the English and Scottish countrysides earlier this week as the winter storm ABIGAIL was upgraded to class four. With winds gusting up to 200 kph, all ships and planes were recalled to home bases and ports. Lord Ashford, PM, declared a state of emergency in London, Liverpool, and Manchester as all available military personnel were recalled to base, furloughs cancelled in anticipation of the enormous work involved in rebuilding the severely damaged industrial and residential communities. Currently over the North Sea, ABIGAIL has begun to flood the lowlands of the Continent. The Netherlands have requested assistance to control the anticipated damage. When queried, Lord Ashford replied that any significant endeavour would have to be cleared with the governments of both the Netherland nations as well as with Germany as a military effort could be construed as hostile. MEDITERRANEAN UPDATE Venice: Attachments of the Italian Third Army are mobilizing to quell demonstrations and unrest in Venice. Venetians are complaining publically that Rome has received an inor- dinate share of the help and attention in the economic reforms begun recently in Italy. To date, no lives have been lost, and little violence reported, but the army is being mobilized "to insure safety and security for all citizens" according to Ceasari Saliti, Magistrate of Venice. Rome: Premier and Minister of State for Italy Alessandro Mizzini had little to say about the situation in Venice, stating only that "Venice is very pretty when it's quiet". King Victor Emmanuel III has virtually disappeared from the public eye. He is purportedly in emergency session with the Papacy, but the subject matter of this long session is unknown. Royal public relations speaker Emmi Tous denied the current rumors that the King has abdicated secretly, or that he has been seen on the beaches of Sicily, sunning himself and sipping wine from the shoes of nubile young Sicilian women. In a recent statement on the world situation, Mizzini was quoted as saying, "Italia has no designs on Imperialist acquisition or control of European territories. We wish only to co-exist in peace with our friends and neighbors, and we especially have no designs on ever attacking or in any way bothering or even annoying our dear brothers in France and Austria-Hungary." Spain: The civil war drags on yet another year. Spanish diplomats have reportedly been pleading with France for military aid. The French government has as yet made no decision, public or otherwise, as to their reaction to this reqest. The Balkan Peninsula: Little of note has happened recently, except for the emergence of a general feeling of fear and trepidation over the future. According to Premier Czesar of Serbia, "Everybody's looking at us..." BRUSSELS (Star International): RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR CAUGHT IN SEXUAL-POLITICAL SCANDAL In a surprise raid on one of the most notorious escort services in the city, the Russian Ambassador was discovered in a compromising position with a most prominent member of the German government. Also discovered in the raid was a transcription of a verbal agreement between unnamed German and Russian officials to prepare for an approaching war against the Austria-Hungarian nation. The Hapsburg Emperor refused to comment to the press pending a trilateral summit with the German and Russian heads of state. Rome: Both Mr. Mizzini and King Victor Emmanuel III, just returned from Sicily, have confirmed rumors concerning a non-aggression pact between our beloved Kingdom and the Turkish Sultanate. They were not willing to elaborate about the precise details of the agreement. Venice: The glorious Italian Third Army has very well performed its hazardous task to quell unrest in Venice. There are rumors that part of the demonstrators will be banned to Tyrolia in order to assist our glorious forces in rebuilding the Tyrolian economy which has been suffering severely for years due to the corruptness of the previous regime. VERSAILLES: The King today declared a state of war to be in existance with England. Claiming German and Russian assistance, he vowed to be at the front himself, killing the "limey bastard" who broke his sworn word of honor. Although drunk at the time, Palace sources admit that the English had broken a spoken agreement between the two nations. However, the nature of this agreement was not divulged. The King of England promised immediate investigations into the matter and admitted he had no idea what was going on. Sources at Downing Street admit that the Prime Minister was a principal party in this affair. The Czar expressed notes of happiness when learning of Italy's declaration of war against Austria-Hungary, stating, "Our forces have repelled the Austrian forces not once, but twice. With aided power of great Italy, Austria will be sure to fall by next year!" When asked about the possible Turkish threat, the Czar stated, "Turkey knows my position. If the sultan even tries to enter Russian soil, he will be ending the current peaceful relations between our countries. Turkey will not attack us if we attack Austria because Turkey knew that Austria was going to be destroyed before he came to us asking for permission to use the Black Sea to support his Balkan invasion." Roumers have been circling about a possible German crush after the England scum are destroyed. The czar completely refuted any knowledge of communications such as these, and has ordered the offending roumer makers to death. "People such as these can ruin our outstanding diplomatic relations with other countries. They are traitors to the Russian empire and thus must be dealt with severly. I strongly suggest that no more roumers be spread..." The Czar also commented that France and Russia were on great terms, and we currently talking over with Germany about how exactly to slice up England ============================================================================ The vote for speeding up the game has been defeated, so we will keep to one move a week. All the press for December 1900: London (AP): ``The Royal Navy has ordered half of its flotilla to steam directly out for mobilization in the North Sea. Although the movement has been routine for almost one thousand years, rumors abound that because of the unprecedented size of the force, there is reason to suspect German treachery.'' London to St. Petersburg (UPI): ``The Royal Soothsayer has foreseen a massive German "blutzkroeg" (or so she says) in less than forty years intent on conquering "Mother Russia". The King wishes the greatest luck to his distant relative, the Czar, in overwhelming the Germans and preventing this future disaster.'' London (The Times): ``Buckingham Palace extended warm wishes to the leaders of Europe as we enter the twentieth century. We have great hopes that further escalation with the Germans is averted; however, this is very doubtful.'' London to Paris (Reuters): ``A British delegation, arriving from Berlin, has arrived to upgrade the Entente agreement to a full offensive and defensive alliance. It is unknown what the French response is as of this moment.'' The German Minister of State announced today, "Sorry guys, I've got a big test on Monday. I don't have time for a press conference." Budapest -- Four Serbian mercenaries were captured following an attempt to assassinate the Emperor. It is believed they were hired by their Slavic brethren in Russia. Zurich: The Swiss people were suddenly taken aback to find that their Confederation defenses had mysteriously disappeared and their normal neutral status was about to be overrun by French, German, and Italian, and possibly Austrian forces. ------ That's it. Amsterdam: An unexplained terrorist action has been occurring recently. Dark men wearing towels and wielding curved swords have been accosting young, dark blonde, blue-eyed women all over the world. No one is quite sure why this terrorist act has been occurring. Reports out of the major European centers indicate that the Emir of Turkey is in search of a particular woman, who could be anywhere in the world. Amsterdam: The terrorist actions of the Emir of Turkey's men have ceased with the kidnapping of a Dutch girl last night. With shouts of "Allah be praised", and "Glory at last", a young woman was snatched off the streets of Tilburg, away from her friends and family. She has reportedly been escorted to the Emir's palace in Constantinople to become his first wife. People in Tilburg are shocked that such an act could take place. "Imagine", said her mother (who asked to remain nameless,"my daughter now one of the concubines of an Infidel!" Her eyes did shine a bit though, so this reporter is inclined to think that girl's mother is not entirely upset at the turn of events. "She was always so selfish. She went off to Turkey without the rest of her family. I knew that Nicolien would leave the rest of us in the dirt. Well, I hope that she remembers her family." Her father was unavailable for comment. Nicolien's older brother, who also wished to remain nameless, said of the kidnapping, "Nicolien was also so lucky! Why couldn't those Turks have like young boys? Then I'd be in nice warm Constantinople now. Darn!" Ankara: The Turkish emir gave a short statement on the present state of war yesterday. Quote: "All we want, is peace, and the head of that dog called Czar of all Russians on a golden plate." Berlin : The Kaiser broke off all negotiations with Austria-Hungary today, declaring them to be "a bunch of Slavs. The true German blood has gone out of them, diluted by that Habsbourg blood!!" Sources indicate that the German forces have been drilled in shooting on skis. Budapest: Expecting some trouble in the Vienna army due to the death of our beloved emperor, our troops in Budapest have decided to assist it in its progression. We have to resist to the troops of that bastard Duke of Warsaw, son of the father of our beloved Otto von Habsbourg and of his waitress, who reclaims the Austrian Empire for Himself. We hope the Tsar will not allow him those criminal actions. Constantinople : In a very weird rite, The Emir of Turkey and a young Dutch girl were bound together last night. The Dutch girl was required to stand on her head, and do neck springs, while the Emir bounced up and down on a trampoline. Then the Emir took out his scimitar and sliced up the trampoline. The young girl was then forced to sew a new trampoline from the shreds that the Emir created. After this, the girl is now forced to live with the Emir, as his first chosen. The girl, Nicolien, seemed very pleased at the circumstances of her arrival in Constantinople, even though she was in chains. Her family took the Orient Express and were on hand for the ceremony. Both her parents seemed quite pleased that their daughter had risen so high in life. Her older brother was upset that none of the Turkish men seemed interested in the young man. London: Norway, We shall rescue you from the evils of rich food. Marseilles: President of France, visiting Marseilles just stated that no peace could ever be found for our free and democratic country as long as those italian mongrels will go on living, in their poor and ridiculous country. He also said that the Prussian hordes should try to come back to the lands of their ancestors, and move eastwards towards the nasty steppes of savage countries. Moscow: Why such an obvious alliance between Austria and England? How will I survive? That's unfair!!! Moscow: In a terse statement given here yesterday, the Tsar reported that negotiations with the English have not gone well, but because of other developments, Russia will trust England's motives in Scandanavia. He reported that all trade embargoes with Australia, India and South Africa have been lifted. Paris : President John O. Regan declared war on Austria. "Imagine the nerve of calling lasagne a waste of pasta!!" he was reported to have snorted, while he finished off his tenth serving of lasagne. He then secretly called together his war cabinet to discuss an invasion of Austria. Moments later, shouts of "Invade Italy!! Invade Italy!! There's plenty of lasagne there!!" were heard. Speculators on Wall Street have driven the price of pasta and olive oil up. Italian Wines are also at a premium after the Warroom council meeting. Paris: President Jean O. Regan declared war on Turkey last Friday. "Tziz will keep zem buzzy for a while", a Presidential spokesman said. Paris: I propose a two way draw between Austria and England. Let's vote. Rome: Why does Germany tries to provoque a war between me and the austrian by sending such a ridiculous black press paper. Let's say it differently: I remind you that the major problem for germany nowadays is its turkish immigration. Where do you think all these turcs come from? They prefer to drink schnaps and steal germans than anything else, just because germans are people you can easily laugh about. I send you a caravan of rotten lasagnes. Sofia: The Turkish minority in Bulgaria welcomed the Turkish army as if it was manna from heaven. The former dictator escaped in a truck (with potatoes). St. Petersburg: Defense Minister, Boris Snitchovitch, ordered Russian troops into the Austro-Hungarian province of Galicia. Russian intelligence reported that the Austro-Hungarian mongrels were planning to violate a truce and send an armed force into Galicia. If the intelligence reports were wrong, then the Russian force will immediately withdraw. Tilburg: (Leuter) All European reporters have given up striking due to the overwhelming amount of events to be covered. The clash in Galicia was not given the attention it deserved. It is said that Austrian troops, the first army assisted by the second to be precise, beated the no longer glorious second Russian army based in Warsaw. The English first and second fleets are said to have occupied the North Sea and Norwegian Sea respectively which seems to have caused major distress in the neutral Kingdoms of Belgium and Holland. The Belgian King, King Leopold I (German tanks will be named after him within some fourty years because his grandson is to be collaborating with the Germans in some big war a foreteller told one of our correspondents) has called on the Swiss, Vatican, Andorrean, San Marinoian, Liechtensteinian and Luxemburgian navies to assist the Royal Belgian forces. He has named them Navies Allied To Overcome, NATO in short. Tilburg: (Leuter) Reliable sources in Constantinople, who wish to remain unknown, have cast their extreme surprise over the recent kidnapping of this Dutch girl, Nicolien Dzyeeyem, by Turkish special branch units. They think it is primarily due to recent measures aiming to improve the Turkish Sultan's image who is generally thought to be a homosexual necrophile. Some even indicate the involvement of the Russian Czar and his staff in this matter. Vienna: Archduke Habsbourg just died, he is now replaced by his nephew Francois-Joseph. As Francois-Joseph is still very young, he will sign anything the prime minister will propose to him. The prime minister has just opened an bank account in switzerland, so send your corruption gifts there. Warsaw: Thanks for the austrian armies for helping us against the minors strikes. ****************************************************************************** Next deadline (F01), unless the players decide otherwise, will be February 13th 9.00 am MET (about 3.00 am EST). Publisher comments: As you can see, quite a few games have gotten started. Luckily, I put one of them in chapter three which is under new ownership. And I moved another game from this zine into that chapter. It would be real nice if I could get a few more guest publishers so I could reduce the size of this chapter. Note that being a guest publisher is my most important position, so only take it if you can do a real good job! I will be getting a computer for home e-mailing in the very near future. Probably this week. (I am looking for a good deal as we speak.) This should help me stay up to date in answering my mail and publishing this zine. If anyone knows of any good deals on IBM compatibles let me know. I need a hard disk drive and 2400 modem in the setup. I would be interested in new as well as used computers. No articles could fit in this issue, luckily I will be publishing another issue today! ************************************************************************ I need more scribes!
