I've gotten one positive reply as to my publishing style, so I'll keep writing stuff up here to get you not to hit the 'n' key. To start off, what say everyone emails Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com and ask him to compile a survey of how long the avg email Diplomacy player has played Dip in any format & other such neat stuff, and when he's gotten thru all the email, he'll publish the results, won't you, Eric? :-) tha--tha--that's all folks. We have two new draw proposals: Austria/Russia and Austria/Russia/England/Italy Please send your votes in by the Fall move deadline (Sat 17 March). "No vote received" counts as a vote for the draw; but if everyone sends in their votes with their moves, we shouldn't have any problems with this. Remember: Votes on draws must be unanimous. ----- PRESS: Geneva: German attempts at frankness were met with severely as France and the Austro-Russian alliance defeated the Germans at Gascony and Munich. Austria and Russia had all 22 of their orders succeed, while Italy and England continue to survive. The English Coast Guard again asked for help to remove the Germans from the island nation, and again it was denied. The Italian government-overseas (not in-exile as has been previously reported) maintains its African stronghold. ---------- Vienna Probe (All the news that's fit to primp) All German citizens are far too busy to read any news, so we did not print any. ---------- The Italian Free Press Now coming to you from our new, improved location in Tunis! It was announced yesterday that relations between the Italian government-overseas (which some insist on calling the government- in-exile) and Germany were restored. The Foreign Ministry released this statement: "We understand that the Germans didn't know what they were doing in 1901 when they assisted an invasion of our homeland. However, although we feel it is important to maintain relations with all nations, we cannot agree with their condemnation of Austria-Hungary. We feel that the Austrians have been considerably more humane in their treatment of European Italians, and look forward to the day when peace again reigns in Europe and we can go home." When asked "more humane than who?" the spokesman shrugged and said it was a typo. ----- DEADLINES: The German retreats are due by 10:00 PM Wednesday 7 March. I will be away for Spring Break next week so Fall 1905 moves will be due Saturday 17 March. Please remember to send conditional retreats for EACH of your units which could possibly be forced to retreat. It just makes it faster for me to send out the results. If the scenario is too confusing, then I'll let you get away without submitting the retreats. But they have to be in by FRIDAY at NOON PST. Press timing seems to be still controversial. The latest modification is that I will NOT send out any "newsflashes" in the 48 hours preceding the move deadline. Any press received in that period will be sent out along with the regular press. Thanks to everyone for their quick builds/disbands. Also, thanks for keeping the orders on time and for the steady flow of propaganda. M. Sotted condemned as a clumsy Turkish forgery the purported Austrian press release branding the Italians as a puppet state and declaring Austrian readiness to begin an invasion of the Weimar Republic. "The Austrian government has proven over time that it enjoys the skills of a number of capable diplomats," said Minister Sotted, reading from a prepared text. "Even should the government hold such positions - which we don't for a moment believe - they'd never be so crass as to say so in public." The Information Minister then expressed concern over the Austrian occupation of Warsaw, repeating the government's belief that such regions should have the right to choose home rule. THE OTTOMAN HERALD ------------------ In the name of Allah the most merciful... Sultan Ingmuad announced that trade talks between the Italians and the Royal Minister of Trade had failed. The Sultan imposed a 3000% tariff on Italian pasta. In a shocking response to a question about the continuing investigation on his father's death the Sultan stated, "I, like all good Ottomans have been frustrated by the lack of progress regarding the solution to my father's death. The head of the Royal Security Corp is sentenced to death for incompetence. I have sceduled the hanging for next week. I have further promoted the Royal Minister of Wine and Cheese to the post." No public comment has been heard from the Royal Minister of Wine and Cheese on whether he is pleased with the promotion. ... in other news ... The Sultan was said to be pleased with the style of the new French chefs that recently came into the country. Unfortunately, his palate just could not handle all of the subtle spices used by the chefs. It was rumored that the Sultan was slightly sick for the rest of the evening. Source indicate that the pasta appetizer might have been the cause as opposed to the actual main course. Naval sources report that Italian crusiers were sighted along the Smyrnese provincial waters. Experts were puzzled as to why the Italians were lost in the Eastern Mediterrean. Some have postulated that it might just be a mail boat as opposed to an actual warship. The democratic underground, the People for an Turkish Way, seem to be frustrated with the lack of attention given to them by the authorities. Apparently one of the dancers has been freed and told this story, "Well gosh, it was just one big party. Turkish men are just soooooooo handsome, kind, gentle LOVING, unlike people in my home province of Vienna where all the men just drink, burp and play poker." No word has been heard from the Austrian authorities as to whether the ransom will be paid this century or the next one. A six star Turkish general announce the execution of five Bulgarian freedom fighters. While the fighting remain fierce, the people have repeated called for Islamic culture. In response to this well known and oft state desire, the Army has decide to continue to patrol the area in order to maintain order and execute more Austrian sponsered nonsense. THE REICH STUFF --------------- On the high seas - Defense Minister K. Claus Kringle granted a short interview today on the deck of the German flagship Rudolf, currently cruising the North Sea. Questioning centered on the so-called "Goldilocks defence" of Lord Stodgy. Minister Kringle expressed bafflement as to the British position. "Lord Stodgy made no serious offer to the German government, asked us to invade both our northern neighbors, and now seems to be upset with us for failing to reach an agreement we would have immediately been forced to abrogate. Bud Busch, the Director of German Intelligence, is of the opinion that the British never had any serious interest in dealing with us, and were merely hoping to soften us up for the kill. Now that he's hoist on his own petard, he's upset with us for not falling into his trap." Minister Kringle bolstered his position with an analysis, prepared by Otto (Spuds) MacKenzie of German Intelligence, noting the anti-German intent of every British move since the rise in continental tensions in 1901. ************************************************************************** If you are interested in joining the fun here in Electronic Protocol, send mail to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com including your name, home address, home phone number, work phone number, and country preferences. ************************************************************************** ******************************************************************************* * [5;7mLord Zar,Commander Of All He Surveys[0;0m * (and hater of spaces near commas.) * * // Only /\ Internet: xcbe12a@ucrmath.ucr.edu * *\\ // /--\MIGA QuantumLink: Lord Zar * * \X/ USNail: 100 Aberdeen Drive Box #737 * * Riverside,CA 92507 * * /// * * /// Only /| __ _ * * \\\/// /_| |\/| | | _ /_\ makes it * * \/\/ / | | | | |__| / \ possible... * ******************************************************************************* * "The only good Assassin/Paladin/Telepath/Telekinetic is a dead one!" --Me * ******************************************************************************* Up
