Alternate Realities From: jefyoung@pawl.rpi.edu (Jeffrey Young) Date: Mon, 26 Feb 1990 21:37:26 +0000 *DESCRIPTION* Move from Melanie (#7) In reply to the Masterharper's last question-- "No, I was not alone. There were, uh (counting on my fingers and mumbling the names of who I remember), five or six others. They were captured by people on blue dragons (well, we were, but i jumped of the cliff and ran into you)." The Masterharper chuckles. "It's a good think we've been spying on Jordan Weyr for the past few months, or you might have been fish food." Melanie shudders, and laughs with the man , and continues. "I don't understand the prophecy.. Perhaps you can explain it more to me?" "The Prophecy is from some years back, about 150 or so. We're a superstitious folk, nowadays, and while 'death from the skies by silver rain' sounds kinda silly, the Red Star HAS returned.. the Star is the second 'sun' you see out the window there. Bloody red color, if you ask me. But so far we haven't seen anything of this 'silver rain' yet, and I would think it might be red, in fact.. But, as I mentioned before, blonde hair is very rare among the Pernese, and the rumor that a blond child has been born to a Dragonrider is worriesome indeed." "The Weyrs have splintered into autonomous groups, because of quarrels and difficulties with leadership... each Weyrleader believes he (or she in the case of Kenshi of Ista) has the right stuff to lead. The Weyrs, as you might have guessed, are color-solid, Jordan consisting of Blues, (as we know) Igen (where we are) consisting of Browns, Benden (Bronzes) , Telgar (Green) , Ista (Gold) , and Fort, which has steadfastly kept to the old ways, and mix their dragon colors." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hachiro, how are you at flying?" Viento splits a big grin, and mimics giving Hachiro a great boost over the top of the bars."If we can avoid that contraption all together," pointing at the lock, "then maybe we can all get out without them noticing. The longer they don't know, the better. Also, one of you may want to look in on our friends in the other cell." Viento looks around for exits, finding a passage that's not dragon sized, but L'yar says, "I'm not leaving without Forth!" Casha, for some reason, doesn't want to leave the little girl behind. (Casha could easily climb over, but the girl can't.) Marin also inspects the lock, and decides that it's way beyond his ability to comprehend. He and Dorian both come up with the idea of Hachiro taking off his armor and passing it through the bars, but Hachiro calmly says, "Do we have a half hour to do this? That's how long it will take." They try the 'boost' idea, and it works to a degree (Hachiro comes down on the other side with a loud *CRACK* of laquered armor slapping together.) Exits from the room: North , 30' wide hallway -- the one you came in by. East , 10' high hallway, leading down into darkness.. (the other passage) Up (hole in the ceiling, barred, 40' diameter) Just then , a young man bearing a large tray with food walks in. He does a double-take at seeing the Adventurers out of their cell.. -Taldin "We don't save little girls in cages." -Varinor the Mighty -- "You are blue, Unicorn.. the Blue of clear, cloudless days where everything seems like it's going right and nothing could go wrong.. and the Blue of despair and lonliness." jefyoung@pawl.rpi.edu Up
