Example turn for Engarde.

I have sent an example of a turn in the game of En Garde that is run here at
Newcastle.  I will only be doing this once as the result sheet is very large
(more people bigger turn sheet, the closer the GM comes to haveing a nervous
breakdown :-))

At the Front. December 1672.
        With the fresh regiments arriving everything looked great, the Dutch
were dug in and the frontier regiments were holding them in.  So, when the Army
commander decided upon a 'jolly way to get those Dutch' everyone was happy.  The
plan was as follows: The 69th Arquebusiers were to lay siege to the dutch
fortifications, the dutch, seeing only a single regiment laying seige to them,
would therefore sally forth and attack, only for the RNHB and Gascons to charge
in and rout them utterly.  Meanwhile the cavalry regiments would hold back to
defend the regiment's rears and provide backup just in case.
        Unfortunately, the dutch received a new load of reinforcements and as
the 69th were engaged in the thick of it, and the RNHB rushing onwards,
charging to the rescue, the dutch reinforcements ambushed the ambush. The 69th
barely managed to get away, and only then by running full tilt towards the
french cavalry which managed to force the dutch to retreat. The DG proving
instrumental by attacking the dutch flank at a critical moment.
        Individual acts of bravery came from captain Zakary Napoleon-Brie, who
held his men firm against the dutch onslaught and Adjuste d'anneaux, whose
brilliant insight helped save half the Gascon regiment, Adjuste:"but sir, don't
you think rushing in is a bit dangerous?", Col. Gascons: "attack the flank
then, you coward Adjuste" (Note: the colonel of the Gascon regiment was awarded
MID +6 (postumously) for his gallant charge). Adjuste bought the empty colonel
position, and hopes to do better than his predecessor.
        Over in the cavalry regiments, Bic de la Biro found 450 cr.

In Paris. December 1672

Week 1:
        This was the week of the secret mission party.  Claude Lefebvre (with
Nicole), Jean-luc du Brie, Sir Jean Teefied, Pierre B'Stard (with Chantelle),
Rodriguez Duart-Xaphier, Phillipe Descartes, Perrier de Ponteniac, Ricard
d'Fromage, Tim L'enchantre (with Michelle), Caune d'Homme, Yves Saint-Laurent,
Daniel de Lyon, Lucien Bonnard and Jeffy le Dude all turned up and had a great
time.
        Also at the clubs were Phillipe le Truffle and Pierre Henri Charon at
Blue Gables. Pierre was explaining to everyone who'd listen that he was the
real hero of the mission, and the popular press had misrepresented him.
        Several others didn't turn up for this prestigious event, Henri
Cochon-Merde and Jacques Rosseau toadied together at the Frog and Peach. Henri
relating his experiences with a group of ruffians who beat him up earlier in
the week, they kicked him about in front of Antoinette and then ran off
laughing after saying 'A little present from Louis'.
        Louis was around at Dominique's with a load of ruffians gathered about
whereever they went preventing anyone from 'muscling in'. Unfortunately, Henri
du Bonnet turned up with an armful of flowers, and, after the ruffians had
pushed him around a little, and bitten the heads off his flowers, Dominique
didn't seem too interested in Louis (female sympathy). Henri challenged Louis
to a duel there and then which he promptly won. Henri and Dominique walked off
arm in arm leaving Louis a dejected figure.
        Also courting was Claude de la Crouton, who went round to Amy's. Also
there was Etienne Rouge-Barbe. Claude duelled Etienne and beat him, but Amy
decided that Claude was a 'no-good ruffian who just likes fighting' and walked
off.
        Bernard le Snob and Jean d'Arme du Lieu converged on Angelique's place,
these gentlemen decided that brawling on the streets wasn't for them and
deferred the time to another day. (Jean challenged Benard)
        Pepe le Phew-tous went to Rouke's Gym for a few sparring sessions.
Armand Allegge went to Mme. Miggins' and Giscard Mustang went to Red Phillips.
        All through this week anyone in the vicinity could see a group of
ruffians clustered around Therese's apartment. They claimed to be waiting for
someone. Therese took exception to this and called the gendarmes who moved them
along, several times.

Week 2:
        This saw the duel between Pierre B'Stard and Pierre-Henri Charon. Sir
Jean Teefied and Louis de Fleurvilles turned up to watch Pierre fight against
the unmatched Pierre-Henri. Pierre-Henri showed his unfamiliarity with the
rapier but still managed to attack well, and parried even bette, but Pierre
showed his size and a couple of cuts made Pierre-Henri surrender. The party
then went to Blue Gables to ease both men's wounds with a few drinks.
        Also mucking about with weaponry were Pepe le Phew-tous (still at the
gym), Phillipe le Truffle (sabre), Tim l'Enchantre (rapier), Giscard Mustang
(rapier), Jeffy le Dude (rapier) and Phillipe Descartes (sabre).
        Also at Blue Gables were Claude de la Crouton, Claude Lefebvre, Caune
d'Homme and Jean-Luc du Brie, all commenting upon Pierre's fighting technique.
        Courting this week were Ricard d'Fromage who successfully won Amy, Yves
Saint-Laurent won Isabelle, Armand Allegge won Michelle away from Tim, who
obviously hadn't been keeping her in the flowers to which she'd been accustomed.
Jean d'Arme du Lieu courted Sarah and Lucien Bonnard courted Dominique.
        There is no truth in the rumour that Henri Cochon-Merde went round to
Yvette's for anything other than cups of sugar. The fact the Yvette is 2 miles
from Henri's place just goes to show that Yvette has the prettiest cups and
finest sugar in all of Paris.
        Meanwhile Perrier de Ponteniac was at Red Phillips with Therese (away
from all those ruffians). Bernard le Snob and Daniel de Lyon both underwent to
rigourous medical and entrance exams required of the Royal Foot Guards. Jacques
Rosseau underwent similar for the Kings Musketeers, and Etienne managed to get
into Princess Louisa's light Dragoons (after the GMD turned him away). Henri du
Bonnet however, was refused entry into both the QOC and the CPC.
        And, the Black Pimpernel showed his face (mask) again. He repeated his
daring plan and got away with 400 crowns, half of which found their way into
the King's hands as last time.

Week 3:
        The Royal Christmas Court! Everrybody who was invited showed up,
everyone listened to the King's speech and sang carols all night Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Dinner was superb - and everyone found a little surprise in their
crackers. All in all everyone had an excellent time, and can't wait for next
year.
    However, some poor people were unfortunate not to receive invites.  Some of
those went to Bernard le Snob's party at Hunters whilst several spent the
festivities in their clubs, and others worked up an appetite down at their
regiments.  Daniel de Lyon took Valerie to the most expensive and prestigious
restaurant he could find for christmas and Armand Allegge took himself off to
Mme Miggin's Pie Shoppe for a bit of a roll.
        Two notable exceptions to this list are Caune d'Homme and Claude dela
Crouton who arrived at the field of honour to fight Roger de Mal who was
nowhere to be seen. They waited a while then went to Bernard's party.

Week 4:
        This week saw the La Spurt party at Hunters.  Henri Cochon-Merde
eventually found it after trying the Horse Guards.  Claude Lefebvre, Caune
d'Homme, Jean-Luc du Brie, Sir Jean Teefied, Louis de Fleurvilles, Pierre
B'Stard (with Chantelle), Perrier de Ponteniac, Phillipe le Truffle, Ricard
d'Fromage, Yves Saint-Laurent, Henri du Bonnet, Jean d'Arme du Lieu, Jeffy le
Dude and Phillipe Descartes all showed up and got exceedingly drunk.
        Not at the party were Pepe le Phew-tous who successfully courted Amy,
and Jacques Rosseau who un-successfully courted Clarissa. Pierre-Henri Charon
courted Louisa. Ricard d'Fromage wasn't too happy at Pepe stealing his woman,
and said as much in a letter to Pepe.
        Claude de la Crouton was seen at his regiment drilling a few squaddies
as was Rodriguez, and Armand Allegge with Giscard Mustang were seen at Mme
Miggins'.

Duels:
        Claude de la Crouton v Etienne Rouge-Barbe
Claude with his rapier faced Etienne with his sabre. Both duellists fought long
and hard until both were bleeding profusely, both performed well, attempting
even the most tricky on blocking routines whilst slashing viciously at each
other but in the end after several cuts, Claude's slash took Etienne down to
the point where he thought he'd better surrender.
        Both men fought well, Etienne getting 2 blows in for Claude's one, but
in the end, Claude's determination and stamina held out long enough.

Louis de Fleurvilles v Henri du Bonnet
This duel was very well matched, both men being of similar size, but
Henri's duelling technique simply left Louis standing. Louis got the first hit
in with his rapier but then, after some parries and blocks, Henri started to
fight back, slashing twice then following up with a cut which all hit before
Louis could retaliate. Finally, after a few more blows, Louis decided that
surrender was the better part of valour.

Pierre B'Stard v Pierre-Henri Charon
A foregone conclusion here, Pierre's size and strength was something the rather
smaller Pierre-Henri couldn't match, he fought well though, but Pierre got a
couple of cuts in and Pierre-Henri surrendered.
