January 1673. An inconclusive month, nobody seemed to do much, the Dutch were securely dug in, and the French were happy harrying them little by little. Notably, the DG and the Gascon regiments suffered most, the Dragoon Guards being caught out by a surprise attack, and the Gascons (upon rushing to the rescue) were caught in a fierce and bloody battle which left most of the regiments dead or dying. Bic de la Biro, for rallying his men and quickly summing up the situation when the dutch attacked received a promotion to full Major. Adjuste d'Anneanux wasn't noticed by his superiors but found 2900cr. Other notables at the front were Preshon de la Masses, who found 600cr, Zakary Napoleon-Brie, who found 500cr but was wounded, Yves Saint-Laurent, who was mentioned in Dispatches (+2), Michel des Champs who was also Mentioned (+4), Giscard Mustang who was promoted, and Camille Baudelaire who received Mid +4 and +1. Newcomers to Paris. At the start of the New Year, quite a few people showed up, possibly attracted by Pierre B'Stard's party.. possibly not. Camille Baudelaire forwent the usual sightseeing and joined first Hunters, then the Dragoon Guards, as did Michel des Champs who just beat Camille to the recruiting offices. Pepin du Monde proceeded to Mme. Miggin's where he partook of the 'favours' offered there. Louis d'Armaund borrowed 100cr then courted Anqelique (she refused him). Preshon de la Masses borrowed 300cr then joined the 69th. Louis Villaret de Joyeuse sucessfully courted Deborah. Xavier la Bamba joined the 13th, and Chris (TAL) d'Canta courted Christine (unfortunately unsucessfully). Gare de Lyons borrowed 300cr then found Pierre B'stard and personally begged to join the 27th. Pierre, of course, was very impressed by this display of humility that he accepted him into the regiment. In Paris, January 1673. WEEK 1: At the start of the year, what should happen but a New Year's Party. Lots of people turned up for this event, they spent their time singing in the New Year, reminiscing about the old one (several relating their tales of their heroic deeds), and getting extremely drunk. Practising were Etienne Rouge-Barbe, and Ricard de Fromage. Courting were Henri du Bonnet, sucessfully exercising his charms on Marie, and Phillipe Descartes who found Amy in the arms of Pepe (duel cause). Jacques Rosseau found Dominique already taken as well and Lucien wasn't too happy about someone else trying to court her, so challenged Jacques. Also this week was to have been the Duel beteen Bernard le Snob and Jean d'Arme de Lieu. Jean Teefied and Armand Allegge were there but Bernard failed to show up, so loses. During the weekend, Chris d'Canta bought himself a really excellent horse. Who knows what he wants to do with it? WEEK 2: Visiting the recruiting offices during the weekend was Jean-Luc du Brie who informed his captain (Dique) that they would be going to the front next month. This was the week of the Duels. Henri du Bonnet v Lucien Bonnard, and Pepe le Phew-tous v Ricard de Fromage. Louis de Fleurvilles watched Henri v Lucien, and Pierre B'Stard (unable to remember who he was supposed to be seconding)(whoever it was didn't notice!) watched Pepe v Ricard. Practising were Daniel de Lyon, Pepin du Monde, Gare de Lyons, Etienne Rouge-Barbe, Dique l'Erotique, and Phillipe Descartes. Whilst down at the recruiting offices were Louis Villaret joining the 13th (after borrowing 300), and Chris d'Canta who, taking his horse, was rejected by the CPC and the PLD. (His horse was offered good terms though) Jeffy la Dude went round to Sarahs where he hoped his good standing in La Spurt would serve to good effect. Unfortunately, who else should be there but Jean d'Arme ho was just taking her out to Hunters. (duel cause). Xavier la Bamba courted Dominique off Lucien who neglected to take her to his duel. Louis d'Armaund tried again with Anqelique who, this time was very polite, but that was all. Tim l'Enchantre courted Tracie but she wasn't interested, and Claude de la Crouton tried it on with Clarissa who also wasn't interested. (Perhaps these guys should become war heroes) Meanwhile, Jacques Rosseau went to F&P without Dominique, Pierre-Henri Charon went to BG with Louisa, Armand Allegge went to RP with Michelle where they comforted Jacques, telling him he'd thrash Lucien in his duel. Also at BG was Caune d'Homme, Roger de Mal, Jean-Luc du Brie and Claude Lefebvre, each with their mistresses. Roger gambled 600cr and came away with 500 (2wins, 2 losses, 2 cuts). Which left Alphonse la Tex at Mme Miggins, also gambling 90cr, and coming away with 180! Talking of money, it was in this week that the Cardinal's Guard HQ was broken into by the Black Pimpernel. A note was left in the empty casket which read: Dear Cardy, Cheers for the load, The Black pimpernel. PS. The dress doesn't suit you. Cardinal Richelieu has offered a 1000cr reward for the apprehension of this obvious traitor to the crown and to all of France. Not to mention the church. PS the Pimpernel is hereby excommunicated and will rot forever in the buring hellfires of Satan's home. WEEK 3: The Trial. Lots of people turned up, some to give evidence, some to watch (and toady). The King was there and in the end gave the final, condemning piece of evidence. Adjuste sent a letter to the court which was read out proclaiming Hertz's good name, Pierre-Henri Charon also gave character witness, but of the others, most could only repeat La Spurt's already known evidence. King Louis in the end recited a letter he received from the Dutch King which, in the court's opinion, proved that Hertz was a dutch spy and that the whole sorry war was in fact planned from years ago. Hertz Van Rentl was condemned to death in the 3rd week of next month. Outside the courtroom however, was Phillipes Descartes, doing a roaring trade selling ripe fruit to the crowd outside who threw them at Hertz when he was brought to, and taken from the court. The other main event was Caune d'Homme's and Phillipa d'Amour's party at the F&P. lots of people turned up, some with mistresses, some without, some after watching Hertz being taken into court and some who didn't. Louis de Fleurvilles, however, was at neither of these events. He was courting Christine, sucessfully, (at last). It seems the unluckiest man in Paris has had a change in fortune with the beautiful Chrissy. Also partying, but not at the F&P was Xavier la Bamba, who took Dominique to Hunters to see the pictures of sheep on the walls, where they met Louis d'Armaund, also gazing with appreciation at the sheep.. Jean d'Arme joined the CPC whilst Pepe took Amy down to the gym to oil his muscles... Jacques Rosseau was doing his duty practising at his regiment. But. During the weekend, Mme Miggins' was robbed! A certain person dressed in green mask and cloak rushed in (frightening many of the girls), grabbed an armload of pies, shouted 'Ay do zees for zee honour of France and monarchy and Ay am La Devil Verte', and then left. WEEK 4: Several pies were found distributed to the poor in this weekend. Mostly the week was taken up by people practising. Louis de Fleurvilles caroused at RP, evidently having a bit of a rest from Christine, as was Armand Allegge, who took Michelle there. Jeffy la Dude went to Hunters, Chris d'Canta went to Mme. Miggins' with Ricard de Fromage and Etienne Rouge-Barbe. Pierre B'Stard went to the F&P with Csantelle, Pierre-Henri Charon went to the BG with Louisa and Rodriguez Duart-Xaphier went to Hunters with Caroline. Henri du Bonnet joined the CPC and Claude Lefebvre joined the DG. Roger de Mal courted Dominique who wasn't yet bored with Xavier, Louis D'Armaund went back to Angelique who was rather concerned that he didn't show in week 3. Gare de lyon tried courting Tracie, but she wasn't at all impressed with the amount of flowers he'd brought and turned him away. Dique l'Erotique tried to court Amy, but she was still at the gym with Pepe oiling everybody's muscles (whilst Pepe was in the sauna). Duels: Henri du Bonnet v Lucien Bonnard Two nearly evenly matched opponents, Henri's size was matched against Lucien's expertise with the rapier. The duel started with a vicous slash from Henri, determined to finish the fight quickly, which coincided with Lucien's more professional lunge. Henri cut then Lucien lunged again, followed by a quick slash which Henri tried parrying, then Henri lunged and Lucien lunged after which Henri stepped back and offered Lucien the chance to surrender as he was bleeding rather badly. Lucien declined the offer, thinking himself just able to continue. The duel recommenced with dual lunges but then Lucien, bleeding profusely, tried one last-ditch measure: he threw his rapier which hit Henri full in the chest forcing him to his knees, but then, seeing that Henri was thinking about not surrendering, Lucien surrendered just before Henri gave up. The seconds thought long and hard over who surrendered first and in the end decided in favour of Henri. Pepe le Phew-tous v Ricard d'Fromage A very quicker duel, this saw each participant turning up with his favoured weapon. Ricard brought his regimental rapier but was a little dismayed when Pepe showed up wielding a huge two-handed sword. Pepe didn't have a chance to show his expertise with weaponry as the duel was over so quickly. He slashed Ricard very badly, asnd left himself open for Ricard's return lunge, but Pepe's cut took Ricard out of the fight, nearly killing him. Ricard's seconds threw in the towel after 4 rounds. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Duels: Phillipes Descartes v Pepe le Phew-tous : Pepe challenges Jacques Rosseau v Lucien Bonnard : Lucien challenges Ricard d'Fromage v Pepe le Phew-tous : Pepe wins Bernard le Snob v Jean d'Arme de Lieu : Jean wins by default Zakary Napoleon-Brie v Pierre B'stard : postponed due to war Jeffy le Dude v Jean d'Arme de Lieu : Jean challenges Dique l'Erotique v Pepe le Phew-tous : Pepe challenges Henri du Bonnet v Lucien Bonnard : Henri wins Pierre-Henri Charon v Dique l'Erotique : postponed due to war -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: The position of Regimental Adjutant to the Royal Marines was filled by an NPC.
