electronic map and pbem From: Ricky.Hunt@samba.acs.unc.edu (BBS Account) Date: Fri, 06 Apr 1990 14:50:07 +0000 I was considering designing and helping program what I call an electronic map. It is not a wargame but a map construction set. Its main function would be to store wargame maps and counters in the computer so that you would not have to leave them laying on a table exposed to cats, children, and angry spouses. It would allow the user to input the wargame of his choice and save the file so that could be shared with others. He would lay down the unit templates and input the data and input the map data also. This is the long part. He could also set up the startup conditions so that after doing the initial work he never has to setup the game again. The program does not keep track of any rulesor movement points although I was considering storing the movement path so it could be confirmed by the opponent. It also might have a simple die roller. One of the possible uses for this program would be pbem. The position files could be sent by email and the players would not have to keep the map set up constantly. Many games could be played at once since they are stored on floppy or hard drive. There may be other good uses that I haven't thought of yet as well as down sides. I would appreciate any input. I received mostly negative feedback from the guys on Genie so I was looking for some positive reinforcement here :-). Rick Up
