"Most of them had to do with the way it ended," he said. "It particularly galled me to have to go to the negotiating table and cowtow to that jumped-up French parvenue. And as for that devious one-eyed Irish rat of an Italian premier, he knows no straight way through a door." When asked to look retrospectively at the other rulers of Europe, the Tzar waxed verbose: "Sultan Vick is as shifty as a scorpion and I never know which way he's going to jump. Completely untrustworthy as an ally and frustrating as an enemy. But at least he made the distance. British Prime Minister West was a national disaster from the very outset of hostilities. He squandered his natural advantage, ordering his fleets around in circles, and let France and ourselves waltz all over his country..." He paused for a moment and then went on: "Herr Mitchell was a staunch ally to the last and a good friend. It is my profoundest regret that I was unable to do more for him. He was caught in the crossfire and perished on the steel breeze. And where was Austria when Germany (her natural ally) needed her most? Slowly being dismantled by her hostile neighbours. Austria tried to grasp too much territory at the start of the War, over-extended herself and was left exposed and alone. That just leaves France and Italy. "I never liked President Allcock. His ideas were always two-dimensional and second-hand. The fact that himself and Italy are the so-called 'victors' is a mere technicality. His success is based entirely on the fact that England crumbled due to West's incompotence and Sullivan used him like a stooge. When the two of them allied against me, I knew immediately who was doing all the thinking. The turning point came when I was foolishly lured into Liverpool and when Italy betrayed me in the Balkans. "I could have held out much longer only I grow weary and I am surrounded by spies and traitors. The Japanese grow restless in the East and the people cry out for peace. Our world is changing and we must change with it or be swept away by this cruel new tide." At this, the Tzar fell silent and would say no more. He looked wistfully at a portrait of his faithless Tzarina who has recently resurfaced in America as a Hollywood film actress. =============================================================================== That's it for now, and all you'll ever see from this game! :-) Cheers, -Valentine Up
