(GM'ed by druwa!hardlj@mtuxo.att.com) Greetings to one and all. After a 3-year struggle, Austria, England, and Germany have agreed to share the continent. The peoples of France and Russia will be treated well. Here's the year-by-year chart I have. supply center ownership victory == 14 SCs && at least 3 more than all other countries 1913 1914 1915 1916 1917 1918 1919 Austria 3 5 9 12 12 England 3 4 6 7 8 France 3 3 2 surrender Fall 1916 Germany 3 4 4 7 9 Russia 4 3 2 surrender Spring 1916 Thanks to everyone for playing, and see you around. Larry GM's comments: As much as I like the concept of 1914 diplomacy, I think the game itself leaves a lot to be desired. Bombers are a very interesting idea, and the ability to wage economic warfare is appealing to me. I also like the economics of building/maintaining an army. Basically, I like 1914 diplomacy for the same reason I enjoyed my one game of Machiavelli: earning ducats/SPs and then deciding how to spend them adds a large amount of enjoyment to the game. The bad part about 1914 diplomacy is the number of countries. 5 countries is simply not enough. The diplomacy has been taken out of the game. Just like in regular Diplomacy, the beginning of the game appears to be a struggle to eliminate 2 powers. In Diplomacy, that leaves 5 countries to slug it out. In 1914, it only leaves 3. When a country is attacked, you have very few places to turn to for help. I wonder what 1914 style diplomacy would be like if Italy and Turkey were major powers instead of minors. I think that would make for a good game. As a side note to Eric, as I recall, there is a version of diplomacy (Youngstown variant, perhaps?) which involves 10 - 12 players. Do you have the rules/board for it? Also, you've never put together an Armored diplomacy game. They're a lot of fun and I should still have the rules around here somewhere. Armored is the same as Regular, except you can build tanks at a cost of 2 SCs. Tanks attack and defend with a strength of 2. Hmm, Armored diplomacy with bombers. Just add the bomber rules from 1914 to Armored diplomacy. Now there's a thought. Well, enough for now. Bye. _______________________________________________________________________________ If you are interested in joining the fun here on Electronic Protocol, send mail to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com including your name, address, phone, e-mail address, and COUNTRY PREFERENCE LIST.
