As negotiations continue with his Highness, Fred the Halfling, the Commander of the Army felt it prudent to withdraw back here until further notice. In related news, fresh recruits from the British Isles eagerly landed in Picardy last season as they anxiously wait for what hopes to be a "walk" into Paris. As France has been dependent on British support since the Italian attack a few years ago, Parliament has recently decided to annex France outright, citing claims that were squelched in the Hundred Years' War.'' Copenhagen (UPI): ``Moves toward further demilitarization in Scandinavia continue, following the reaffirmation of peace between Britain and the new Czar. The British naval garrison departed for duty in the Low Countries, and it is hoped that the White Navy will soon be heading back north for Kronstadt.'' (Burgandy) As part of its search for renegade derF agents, the Austrian armed forces continued to search eastern and southern France. "We want to make sure that we catch all of them," and army spokesFred said, "if you leave any of them around they just replicate and can be such a nuisance." (Vienna) "This new Russian goverment is really getting on my nerves said Fred the Halfling at a cocktail party thrown in the honor of the English ambassador. He was also guardedly optimistic about the negotiations over the wool sock order. ---------- of the game JUGGERNAUGHT (BNC number 1989IR) (GM is rdesper@eagle.wesleyan.edu/Rick Desper) nothing recieved ---------- of the game FIRE WHEN READY (BNC number 1990B) (GM is rlg@ai.mit.edu/Bob Givan) nothing recieved Winter '03 of the game DREADNOUGHT (BNC number 1990I) (GM is rbk@aiai.edinburgh.ac.uk/Richard Kirby) Subject: DREADNOUGHT Winter 1903 Results Here they are:- Retreats: Germany: A Mun - Ruh Turkey: F ION - Gre Builds/Disbands:- England: Builds F Lon Germany: Disbands A Par, F Den, F Hol Turkey: Builds A Ank, A Con, F Smy Italy: Disbands A Tus NOTE: F ION - Gre retreat scrubbed Austria's build and gave one more to Turkey! TURKISH FLEET IN TURMOIL!!!!!! Athens(AP) - Today, the Second Turkish Fleet, stationed in the Black Sea was viciously attacked by the huns from the west. Ships were forced to take refuge from Italians here in Athens. Sultan Ali Hakim could not be reached for comment, but Defense Minister Ahmed Ka' Mel assured the Turkish people that this is only a temporary stay for the Italians. He also said that the huns can expect a new and improved Turkish fleet heading their way in the "very near future". BUDAPEST MOVE PUZZLES SULTAN Ankara(UPI) - Sultan Ali Hakim expressed much confusion today at the Austrian move to Budapest. "We wonder if they don't have something up their sleeves. They did not inform us of their plans as they usually do." The Sultan explained that relations with Austria were "tense at best" and that he hoped for "improved cooperation in the upcoming seasons" as he would hate to have to punish the Austrians after being faithful to the empire for this long. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ To Germany: I told you that I would put an end to your backstabbing. We had an agreement and you reneged. Now you've paid for it. I stand up for my allies, even if it means vacating the homeland. Remember this next time, and good luck against the more powerful nations...three disbands...thanks for keeping me in the game... To France: There now...you see what a little Russia can do for his ally? To England: I still don't like the fact that you took St. Petersburg. But you did not interfere with the German attack. It is too bad we've never discussed anything in a diplomatic sense --- I like you. To Italy: I bid thee good luck. I heard about the Coup de tad (sp) and am relieved to find that there is now competent leadership in your country. Beware Turkey...my is he a backstabber, as is Germany. To Austria: I seem to recall a while back a certain Turkish nation telling me that his fleet was just there to visit. But, believe or not, the next thing I knew he was in my backyard and invading my land. I've no quarrel with you, and I thank you for your support in Germany. But alliances with backstabbers are risky business... To Turkey: Happy? Yes, quite. It is nice to see that when you backstab someone, you really go full out. I hope you deal well with the new hatred you are bound to develop with the other weaker nations...no-one likes an all powerful nation, especially one who forsake the battles and took the easy pickings. Now I know why camels spit on Turks, it is to warn them against using knives...You realize, of course, that 3 of your supply centers are on Russian soil, yet I seem to still have 3 supply centers, and I fought for them...now, who then is the better strategest???? Who is willing to come to his allies aid, and who f*s over his allies???? hmmm.... To ALL: I'll stay in as long as I can, and I could really use some payback about now. If not, Austria will take possession of the supply centers I wrenched from the German's grasp, and then what is to stop two superpowers from sweeping westward???? Richard. ps A request: Some of you may have noticed that I work in Artificial Intelligence, anyway I was thinking of doing a parttime PhD, and one of my ideas was a Diplomacy player. Unfortunately it seems that some work has already been done in this area, but in talking to my boss, he expressed an interest in the form of the letters between players, hence my request. I would like to ask you all, if you don't mind, whether you could all please send me any transcripts of messages sent between you all, perhaps at the end of the game. You Had Better Create Some Builds Or You Are Going To Be French Dip. HA, HA, HA... WEIMAR TIMES ------------ The Baron announced that he is officially confused. "I don't really know what I want - France is so nice this time of year, and there are always the Austrians, and, damn, those Russians are always easy pickins, I just can't figure it all out!" Pufferfish Daily ---------------- (St. Petersburg)- More Russian Force Maneuvers! Further naval movement, combined with new troop movements in the northern latitudes has many citizens concerned. German activity in the area is also on the rise, prompting the head of the Northern Forces to upscale maneuovers in the northern part of Russia, Scandinavia, and England. (Sevastopol)- More confusion in the Balkans! Bizarre troop activities in the Balkan regions by Turish, Austrian, Italian and Russian forces rains confusion over the war-torn landscape of the Balkans. "The Italians don't know what they want", complained Gen. "Catfish" Sherman. "First they move east, then they move west- dem boys don't know what is going on. Dey best be doin' some recruitin' in the homelands, lessen they figurin' on given' the Frenchies Rome". (Sevastopol)- Blackie on a Rampage! Blackie- the Black Sea Monster, went on a rampage last week! Demanding salary arbitration over the disputed 100,000 Austrian dollars it was promised to recieve, Blackie threatened to delay the opening of the local sporting season by eating all the fans. THE REICH STUFF --------------- Berlin - Citing concerns over Russian competence, the Weimar Republic declared war today on Czarist Russia. "Lord Czar Blowfish was simply too canny to be put off any longer by our delaying tactics," said President Baron Friedrich von Munchausen. "He has forced us to reveal to the public our intent to gain Lebensraum in Scandinavia and northern Russia. It's unfortunate, as we'd hoped to put him off a while longer with doubletalk, but in view of Lord Czar Blowfish's accurate reading of the military situation, this was no longer a viable option. "In short, the Russian government has shown too much competence for us to risk losing what may be an evanescent military advantage, were we not to press it home now." In a related story, the Finance Ministry expressed complete confidence in the Austrian management team currently in place at the Stolichnaya bottling plant outside Warsaw. The Ministry also announced investment plans in the Stockholm Volvo factory. Puzzled reporters were unable to learn what a "Volvo" might be. THE OTTOMAN HERALD ------------------ In the name of Allah the most merciful... At his first press conference since returning from his holy pilgrammage, the Sultan pronounced himself most pleased with the tactics of his newly named Caliph. As the Sultan stated, "I always had the utmost confidence in Caliph Stodgy. I always knew that once a man visits a Turkish harem something happens to him and he gains something. The liberation of Rumania was a masterful ploy. Of course, I should not forget to mention that the Russians were most helpful in pacifying the Austrian terrorists in Rumania. I am grateful to the good Lord Czar Blowfish for all of his help in dealing with the Austrian tyrant. To further show my appreciation to Lord Stodgy I will grant him an estate in the capital city of Constantinople with my second group of ladies for his to keep as long as he should continue his exile." Palace watchers seemed to think that the Sultan almost glowed with pleasure. Some wondered what the city of Mecca did to him. ... in other news ... This paper did not clarify that the terrorists had split their captives into two groups hence one group went to Armenia where the terrorists were captured and the dancers granted asylum. While the second while the second group in Damascaus were starved to death. The Herald regrets the error. Rumour has it that the Sultan invited the ex-Austrians to join his fourth level harem which would really be third since the Caliph is due to receive the second level soon. Conflicting stories have been heard from the terrorists tortured by the Armenian police. Three consistent stories have come out. 1) England provided 25,000 pounds a month to finance the terrorists. 2) France provided 123,321 francs a month for the idiots. 3) Germany provided 78,945 marks a month for the dunces. Unfortunately, police cannot figure out which story is true, if any. Palace sources reported that the Caliph hotly denied supporting the Turkish rebels. The ambassadors from France and Germany also denied contributing funds. Police are puzzled but apparently there are still five terrorists left to torture. Rumour has it that the Sultan almost lost half of the Royal Treasury betting on the horses until he hit an exacta in the last race of the day at Mecca Downs. In addition, the Sultan apparently broke 100 in golf for the first time. He apparently stated that Allah was with him on his first pilgramage. The Sultan sent his deep apologies to the Lord Czar Blowfish about his daughter's death at the hands of Blackie. The Sultan's mother commented on how Elvis could stand to be in a love triangle with such a monster. Zoologists have speculated that Elvis and Blackie must have had a falling out hence Blackie's attack on the bride to be. Hopefully the award winning team at the Pufferfish Daily will be able to help out our zoologists on this shocking development. The Royal Foreign Minister had no comment on whether the Sultanate was supporting Austrian dissidents. Though the minister did state the supporters of the old Italian regime has definitely taken over the Austrian mail service as it seems that none of the Turkish diplomatic notes seemed to be getting through. The democratic underground issued a statement announcing continuation of the struggle against the facist Sultan. They called for a demonstration in Smyrna. Apparently many of the activists thought that the demonstration was supposed to happen elsewhere. All of the demonstrators were arrested. Police estimated that the total number of demonstrators at two. The spokesman also noted that all of those arrested would be detained indefinitely. ************************************************************************** If you are interested in joining the fun here in Electronic Protocol, send mail to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com including your name, home address, home phone number, work phone number, and country preferences. ************************************************************************** Up
