Avantgarde made public the secret maneuvers of French Land and Naval Forces in what has been dubbed "Operation Retribution" by the General Staff. " Ladies, and Gentlement, honorable members of this most august body, I come before you to announce the opening of Military engagement between the forces of the Federal Republic of France and the German Weimar Republic. I do this with great sadness and much regret. Nonetheless, I take full responsibility for the actions of our armed forces and do so with resolve and sobriety." " As is well known by members of this body, but not so of the public, the French and German governments agreed to joint action into the Piedmont district of Italy this last fall. We finalized this agreement in the spirit of alliance that existed as French forces assisted in the gaining and maintaining of Edinburgh and London. We were happy to have provided the assistance, and felt the distribution of governorship an equitable one. It was with this same spirit of resolve that we agreed to support German forces into Venice later this year, following German support of our movement to the Piedmont district." " As all of you, both public and private, are well aware, our recent attempt to gain control of the Piedmont district was unsuccessful. This was not due to any miscommunication, nor was it due to misunderstanding. It was due quite fully and simply to the decision of the Weimer Government to fail in its promise and to support Austrian troops into Venice instead." " Unfortunately, this reversal on the part of the German Government will cost us heavily. It is expected that the Italian campaign will last many more months than expected and there will be a corresponding additional toll in lives." " Our original intent, upon hearing this news after returning from the American Capital was to discuss the matter with the German President in a frank and open manner. We did this, and found that there was no regret on the part of the Weimar government, and little or no recognition of the impact of this decision. Clearly, matters were entirely out of hand. The spirit with which the French government had so freely support German advancement appeared to be something of a phantom that only the French Government had grasped." " Given the circumstances of these results, it was with clear mind and great personal resolve that I directed the General Staff to see to the removal of German forces from all strategic areas within Britain and to secure a defense against possible German invasion." " I give no further explanation, as none is need. I therefore ask this body to declare war immediately upon the German Weimar Republic and to seek negotiation with the Italian Government for an armistice to allow the full pursuit of said declaration." La Liberte ---------- The Minister for Foreign Affairs, M. Robustbreu, returned from Vienna after a series of high level talks with the Austrian Foreign Minister. It was decided that further Austrian envolvement in the conflict between the Federal Republic and Italy would consist of mediatition in proposed discussions of an armistice between these two countries. In other news, negotiations appear to be in progress between the Republican Goverment and the Czar in hopes of stemming the tide of German expansion. The Turkish Embassador was seen leaving the Foreign Office Administration Building today, amid a flurry of reports concerning the negotiated return of Lord Stodgy to Britain to form a new government in opposition to the German hordes. ************************************************************************** If you are interested in joining the fun here in Electronic Protocol, send mail to Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com including your name, home address, home phone number, work phone number, and country preferences. ************************************************************************** Up
