Alternate Realities--Portal R'lyeh, Party Kadath From: raven@pawl.rpi.edu (Jennifer Lynn Piatek) Date: Thu, 12 Apr 1990 06:11:40 +0000 "Sorry, I didn't make a map...I usually just ask the computer for directions." says Peter. Tarrin, however, chuckles at the mention of 'map'. "Why, sure! I've got lots.." He pulls out a bone mapcase, halfway pulling out several maps. "But, I believe the one you want..." (he rummages through a couple of pouches, dropping a few random items here and there)"...um, it was here a second ago.. hmmm....maybe it was in this one...ah hah!!" He pulls out the map that he had made after levitating in the glen. "This is the one i made..." "Oh, by the way, Hachiro, it isn't Loren. It's Loring we're looking for. Would you know anything about him, sir? And can you show us the map you made coming from the other direction? We're in an awful hurry...Also, have you ever heard of something called the Wheel of Time??" Tarrin shows Mikhale the map, pointing out the clearing with the chanter, "Oh, look out for the walking trees. They're the ones that pushed us off the cliff into the quicksand." Mikhale grins at the kender's rush of questions, "Ah, slow down there, little one. We'll get to your questions one at a time." He shows you a map of the wood from the east. The woods end about a day's travel east from here, and there is only one path marked on the map. A fork in the road is marked about 3 hours east from here, and there is a tunnel leading into the ridges that line the road. Mikhale then leans back onto a nearby wagon, and continues with the kender's questions. "Loring, ah that is a name i can recognize. He was the twelfth king of this here land, and the last of a great line of good rulers. He was lost, however, during his search for the Wheel of Time you mentioned. I noticed you were wearing his monogram," (he points to Hachiro, and the glove hanging from his belt), "As for the Wheel of Time, I don't think I can help you there. I and my small band are searching for the Wheel of Fortune, once the pride of our clan, but lost long ago by my great-great uncle Lenar, the gods curse his soul!" This last sentnce is muttered, and he spits on the ground when it concludes. "Ever since that luckless day we have been vagabonds, unwelcomed and unwanted. Our search may never end, but I and my sons and their sons shall never turn from our task. But perhaps I can aid you. We passed a highly decorated wooden wheel set in a shrine on our journey from the east. If this be your wheel, you need but follow the pathway toward the rising sun and you shall have an end to your troubles. If you will please, excuse me now, I have some other business i must take care of. I will leave Bluebeard with you to keep you company." He sets the parrot on a perch near the wagon you are standding by, and walks away. The parrot looks at the party, cocks his head, and says, "Tell your fortune?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Desperado. Why don't you come to your senses? You've been out riding fences, for so long now." Referenced By Up
