(Dateline August 22, 1902) Bordel Press Associates ace reporter, John Smith, finally managed to catch up to Lord Sauron in his fortress in the Balkans, to get the following interview: John: You seem to be getting a lot of bad press lately, Lord Sauron, how do you feel about this? Sauron: They know not whom they deal with. I will have my revenge, anything they wish upon me will be returned many fold. John: You seem to be having difficulty coming up with allies, can you see any reason for this? Sauron: They all fear my massive armies and tactical expertise. John: You don't feel that it could be due to a lack of diplomacy, or your grab what you can style of conduct in the Balkans? Sauron: How dare you suggest such a thing, for that you will be punished. Guards! Guards! John: Ow, I'm the press damn it! You can't torture me! (Ending in screams of agony.) The editors of Bordel Press Associates report that John Smith was unable to take further reporting assignments, not having returned from his last one, and are looking for a new ace reporter to do an interview with The Shah. (B.P.A. - Bordel Press Associates) Bern - The site of the 1904 Olympics has been fixed for Berlin, the ex-capital of Germany. The Intertribal Olympic Committee, condemning the acts of nonviolence that occurred at the previous Olympics in Teheran, has approved a new rule stating that every competitor must be armed with at least as much firepower as a pillbox. Lisbon: The Displaced Forces of the Romanov Throne have uncovered an insidious plot on the part of a Deep Thinker to delay or foil their glorious return to the Winter Palace. Roving bands of French peasants seek to oust Our Friend and Ally of the Delian Conspiracy from his rightful seat along the Riviera. A detachment of Basque Sailors has been sent to protect the Delian holding. To punish the attempted overthrow, the Second White Fleet has put to shore in Brest, and the First White Fleet carries an elite corps of Cossacks to Amsterdam. Lord By-Tor is forgiven his earlier trespasses--We despise the clammy Anglo Island anyway--but our action in Warsaw should remind him that it profits no one to raise the wrath of the Delian-Romanov Confederacy. His Excellency The Renegade Czar of the People of Russia and the Imperial House of Romanov Munich - The Shah, having escaped from almost-certain death in Bulgaria, today signed an agreement with Deep Thought concerning this important Bavarian city. Under the terms outlined in the Munich Accord, Deep Thought is allowed to exercise its authority over this city and the entire countryside of southern Germany, but The Shah's men will organize Oktoberfest. Lord Sauron's men, roaming in the wilds of Silesia, will serve as waiters once they surrender. Hamburg - Returning to safe territory after his gruelling escape from Bulgaria, The Shah described his ordeal to a group of reporters gathered around the fireplace in his new home. "It was horrible! It appears that Lord Sauron is going to institute...DEMOCRACY! The Bulgarian people may have been surrounded, but to the end they were the most submissive, servile people that it has ever been my fortune to grind into the dirt. But that time is past, friends. I would like to extend my warm thanks to the Leagues of Delos who transported me calmly and luxuriously through their demesnes, from the border of now-lost Bulgaria through to Vienna itself! I would also like to thank the people of Innsbruck for making me feel welcome during my skiing sabbatical there, and thanks especially to Frida and Anna...this is strictly off the record... for <censored>." The Shah is brushing up on his German so that his new subjugates, er, subjects, will better understand him while he boots them in the head. I expect you to take Rumania this turn, and if not, I will support you there in the fall. Italy: I'm not going to be easy pickings for you even if it means the loss of other sc's to other people - you get the brunt of my forces Russia: How about Vienna to Tyrolia? Wishful thinking? :) England ------- England -> France: I tried to make the opening moves of an alliance, but you rejected them. I'm sorry but a fleet in Brest can only be considerred an attack on myself, if you were defending against Germany or attacking Germany, an army would be more useful. If you were going after Italy, you would have built a fleet in Marseilles. My only conclusion is that you are hunting me. I was quite willing to have an alliance. Oh well. England -> Germany: Shall we go after France, he seems to want to be hostile to me, so I'm happy to go after him, and you seem to be set up to take early profit. As a token of my friendship I support you into Sweden. I would also say that the crews of the ships in the North Sea would be extremely interested in spending the winter in Belgium, they here it is a very nice place, once the French have been kicked out. If you happen to take Belgium this spring, well you can depend on my not taking it away from you, but I would be interested in a build somewhere. (Depending on the position of the French fleets, I may even have the ability to support you to hold it if I don't have to hold my own position.) England -> Russia: Sorry, but Germany is more important to me now than you are. From my moves, though it should be obvious that I'm not out Russian hunting. (I would be in the Barents see if I was.) England -> World: re Russia's comment. I haven't played any other games that are going this quickly, but I have seen at least one game that appears to be moving as fast or faster. I've got no complaints, the faster the better. Keeps the excitement up, and you get the game finished quickly. France ------ France -> England: Sorry to violate our DMZ, but I need to bring more pressure to bear on Belgium. Obviously, the Kaiser is interested in this currently undefensible colony. Thanks for your understanding. Good luck with your fishing expedition. Have you considered the fertile coastal areas of Germany? The Kaiser is obviously eyeing the North Sea with envy. I think it's time we got down to some serious cooperation. France -> Russia: I, too, do not trust the Kaiser. If Turkey follows his excessive words with action, perhaps you might press Germany from the East while I hold him off in the West. France -> Austria: The Sultan is rarely *kind*. Don't count on it. Germany ------- -England: Well, well. Hope you agreed and stand in Belgium now. If this succeeded we will have a good chance to rule the world in a few years. Hopefully I'm not in Burgundy now, but if I am, don't count on any help from that unit. It may be needed somewhere else. (But of course I'm open to anything.) If North Sea happens to be empty, can we consider it as a neutral zone free from any "transits". Good luck in your future plans| -All: I don't know yet, but don't you think my press above should look too pathetic with an English-French-Italian attack on me. -France: I thought it was time to say something more than the usual nonsense we three powers have produced so far, even if we haven't reached the turkish heigths yet. Of course I'm not at all sure that this will work, and if England is a sucker so... Anyway, if you have done the "correct" move, we should have banged our heads at each other in Burgundy. You see, this was inevitable since you didn't build a fleet in Marseille. I know that you will say that you have build an army in Marseille if you don't want to upset Italy. But now you upset me, and such are the luxury problems if you are stupid to build three units the first year. (sorry) Maybe I have the Italians in my back just because I am in Burgundy. Remember: Don't rule out a possible German-French alliance because of my bad behavior. Actually, even if England got Belgium (if she did), you are stronger than me. But if all moves are according to the plan, I will smile when England crushes you. By the way, what is a BTW? -Russia: Still stuck in Finland? Hope so. Do you know what reputation the Russian archipelago fleet had in real life? No, I should stop being nasty. Life isn't easy for you, and soon I may be with you. -Turkey: I must say that I admire your way of playing. I will remember your way of taking advantage of the slight ambigous press, if you and I have to deal with each other in the future. -Italy: I'm actually a little worried about your army in Venice. Turkey is horror. I at least would be scared if she wrote such nice words to me. Italy ----- Italy -> France: Thanks for the non-aggression pact. Italy -> Russia: I will support you into Budapest as soon as possible. Italy -> Turkey: I must confess that your builds have made me uneasy because the only country you can use your fleets against is Italy. Russia ------ Russia - All: Sorry about the delay. I'm currently out of town and busier than one would hope. Russia - Turkey: If you don't want to attack me Austria or Italy, who *are* you going to attack. Russia - Italy: Here's to a long alliance. Russia - All: Wish I could write more press but time is short and so's my dog. Turkey ------ Turkey -> World: I wrote my winter 01 press at 3:30 AM. Upon rereading it, I think this fact shows. Anyway, I am having fun and enjoy this game's quick pace. I guess Germany's comment was directed toward me, and, yes, I am amusing myself. I realize I said some stupid things last time. For those of you that are concerned, I think my hyperactivity is calming down. Upon rereading some of my press, I've noticed that I've talked about feathers and turtles. I suppose scientists at the Turkish Institute of Turtle Studies have come up with a new fangled turtle that has feathers and flies. What this has to do with a Diplomacy game, I don't know. I just thought I'd blather a bit more to waste France's time. Turkey -> France: Blathering? That's not very nice. You wouldn't have said that if your units were closer to mine! And my moves have not been slimy. A genuine misunderstanding is being corrected. Anyway, I'm going to watch your fleet in Brest. Expect to hear howls from me when it goes into the channel and then on to merry old England. And finally, shame on you for reading my press to Russia! You obviously did, you've admitted it. If you don't like what you read, you can kindly choose to not read it. Just say NO to Turkish press. (From now on we'll be talking about you) Turkey -> Russia: OK. We've both been talking peace, so let's get to it. I think I disbanded your fleet this turn. This again was not very nice. But I vacated Sevastopol, as promised. I disbanded your fleet because, if you and I are allies, you really don't need it down here. It just causes confusion and is a waste of a piece and a supply center. Now with the fleet gone and Sevastopol back, you can build an army and support any land-based campaign that you might be considering. Again, I respectfully request that you not build any fleets in Sevastopol. The building of a fleet would be a clear indication of impending revenge. If you think about all this horsing around down here, I think that you'll see that I indeed want to ally. France, I know you're reading this. So if you are playing Siskel and Ebert again, how am I doing? Do I get two thumbs up, two thumbs down, or two middle fingers? Now back to our regularly scheduled program to Russia... If this were not a gunboat game, you and I could be talking about this fake war that we are having to fool everyone else. Unfortunately, you and everyone else think we are really going at it. Perhaps I'm the only one who thinks otherwise. Anyway, I expect payback from you sometime. I have had visions of you and your friends squishing the crap out of Turkey, and everyone cheering in the process as I cry Mercy! Mercy! And you say, I've just taken Constantinople, I plan to give it back later... Nightmares... I hope that peace is at hand. I have tried to give a clear indication of my desires to ally this turn. Destroying your fleet may not seem like a clear indication, but it makes sense if you and I are going to ally. I didn't expect to send an army on a hike all the way around the Black Sea. Thanks for your patience. Hopefully this will be the start of a long alliance. Kind of delayed and strained at first, but nonetheless, an alliance. Do you concur or should I expect immediate retribution? Turkey -> Austria: I will continue to honor our alliance. I am studying the situation, but your visitors have made a real mess. I'll see what I can do to help in the fall. Any suggestions or requests? Turkey -> Italy: I hope that you will show some mercy on my Austrian friend. But, if you're intent on destroying him, what do you plan to do next? I sure hope that you'll leave me alone. I just want to stay down in this corner and blather about my great alliance with Russia for the rest of the game. A Turkish-Italian alliance would be nice. I'm trying to ally with everyone else, so I might as well ask the same of you. I'm so confused... Anyway, congrats on a successfully negotiated DMZ with France. Turkey -> England: I guess the fishing is getting more difficult now. Turkey -> Germany: I see that you've added to your fishing fleet. Going to join in on the fun? Turkey -> World: Who wrote this grey press? ANONYMOUS: ---------- None.
