Press for spring from the "Nth French Republic": Newly sworn in President Dan Quayle has promised to restore order to the nation of France. Today he announced the formation of the 'N'th French Republic, explaining that this was a much easier name to rmember than trying to calculate exactly which iteration of the Republic was current. The first duties of the new Presicent include a tour of the territories of the 'N'th Republic. First on President Quayle's list was Iberia. Quipped Quayle, "I'll be on my just as soon as I've brushed up on my Iberian." The Vatican Enquirer for Spring '05. (God's Seasonly Word to the World.) WORLD BEGINS TO MOVE, POPE FORCED TO TAKE ACTION Due to the Mystical orders being necessary, Pope Not-So-Pious I was rudely interrupted in one of his "Holy Sessions" with his secretary to send them out. The Pope was quoted as saying he couldn't believe the "Game" was finally moving this quickly. The Pope was reported to go to an odd box he called a "terminal" and type in some weird commands. Sources close to the Pope have not figured out what this thing is. (You know news is getting scarce in the Vatican if we print this garbage...) AND NOW, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR: Italy->Neighbors: All I want is Peace, Peace, Piece! A little piece of Turkey, and then a little piece of France, and then some Austria and some Balkans by chance... Date: 13-JUN-1990 18:00:00.49 squalane fall 1903 press ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Routers (Moscow) - The following stunning statement was released this morning by the apparently new head of state, Tsar Alexander the MCLXII: "I regret to inform the world community of the sudden and unexpected death of our beloved Tsar Gorby II. His personal physicians reported that blood samples taken from the late Tsar led to the preliminary diagnosis of lead poisoning. "The NKVD has been reorganized and is now rooting out the perpetrators of this foul crime against our leader. To date, public executions are scheuduled for the Ministers of Agriculture (for failing to check the food presented to the Tsar), Transportation (for failing to get the Tsar to the hospital on time), Defense (for failing to kill everyone in front of the ambulance) and Energy (for the heck of it)." Our correspondent in Moscow reports festivals and large vodka parties in the streets of the city. More news as we get it. Jacob "Flakey Jake" Flakeman New York Times Paris Bureau Presidential Secretary Ewe Michelin mde the following announcement today upon hearing of the change in governement in Moscow, We regret the passing of Tsar David (not Tsar Michael "Gorby" II). He was an able leader who was commanding his forces to victory and managing to diplomatically fool all of Europe into thinking him a simpleton and a novice until he outmanuevered everyone. Too bad he couldn't administer his internal affairs as well. We had a cordial relationship with him, even though we were on opposite sides of the war. We look forward to establishing a similar relationship with Tsar Paul, who we understand returned from exile in Siberia. His claims to be actually Alexander the 1162nd are merely an elaborate hoax. The French government hopes that Tsar Paul will see fit to govern in his own name. Continued duplicity in this matter will result in the same reaction given "Istanbuloney", the trademark of the late, unlamented Sultan Randy. PARIS IN THE THE SPRING 1903 By Jacob "Flakey Jake" Flakeman New York Times Paris Bureau Popular wisdom holds that outbreaks of eccentricity travel from west to east, crossing the Channel from England, where eccentricity is epidemic, to infect the continent. The English disclaim responsibility for these pandemics of silliness, claiming instead that they reach England on the steamers from New York (of course, we New Yorkers know full well that the fountain of wierdness is San Francisco, where they "Babble-on-by-the-Bay", and that bizarre fads travel by rail to New York). No matter what the source, these outbreaks first make landfall on the Continent at Paris. Aficianados of the bizarre, who closely monitor behavior in Paris to detect the first signs of "English fads" on the Continent, have surprised themselves by identifying another source of silliness, the Ottoman Empire, which exports its idiosyncracies from east-to-west via the Orient Express. The first symptom of "Istanbuloney", as the current rage is called, appeared early Spring 1901, when a Turkish emissary stumbled off the Orient Express in Paris and then raved about the Sultan challenging the King of England to a race to Prague with the loser buying the beer. He apparently had succumbed to temptation and became drunk on Bohemian Pilsner. The French authorities promptly packed him onto the next train to Calais, where he could board the ferry to Dover and sober up during his journey to deliver the message to the proper audience. Later that spring, another emissary of the Sultan, this one apparently advertising his membership in the Hashashim, wandered the streets of Paris. He proclaimed: "Down with President Bush and the Idaho Legislature! Up with Freedom of Choice!" His rantings puzzled (and annoyed) all Paris until the chief fortuneteller on the Left Bank said that the Turk was precient but extremely premature, as he was 80 years too early to promote the music of Devo, the prophets of de-evolution, and 90 years too early to criticize American politics (Send him over here - we need people who know the future of American politics!) With the passing of Sultan Randy and the accession of Sultan Richard (same name as the French President - an amazing coincidence!) Istanbuloney is also passing from the scene. Too bad, as a fez is more fashionable than a Cossack fur hat, which all Europe might be wearing at the current rate of Russian expansion. Next issue: the new craze from the East, ice-fishing in the Seine below the Presidential Palace, Russian style.
