Through ancient times a resounding deathnell has been sounded for this soulless creature. It has been decreed that should he choose to accept death now, he will be granted a new life after proper attonement for his most despicable deeds (some estimate this would require as much as ten thousand millenia of torture). The Gatekeeper to the Ends of Time was quoted as saying that a special chamber has been set aside for the express purpose of the Dark Lord's attonement. Some of its features include: Quicksand - for repeated asphyxiation Sulfuric Acid - for repeated dissolution One million tons of sulfur rich coal - for repeated burning One million rats - to be placed upon the Dark One's bound head, one at a time (any not eaten to be reused). Ten thousand shaprened poles - for slow impalemnt One thousand heavily muscled slaves with equipment - to provide slow torture until they are each exhausted of ideas. The Gatekeeper also stated that this was a light sentence given the fate of others that had passed his doors. Lord By-Tor to Lord Sauron: after your press about wheeling and dealing, I just couldn't trust you. I had offers from two other players, and figured that I was better off trusting that one those two would be on the level, than that you were. Lord By-Tor to whomever: Me telling lies! How dare you. (And considering what happened, I'm not terribly unhappy with the results, even without my having lied.) Come fly Nazgul Airlines. The last choice in flying you'll ever make! You are all a bunch of weenies and i will beat you all. The Shah of the World (hahahahahahaha I'm insane but I like it!) (Dateline Jan 25, 1902) The power vacuum in Russia is finally filled by By-Tor and the Delian Ligue, considerring their previous history of conflict in the Balkans, will they continue this infighting in Russia? England suddenly becomes more complicated with another player enterring the arena and Romanov fleet strenght continues to grow in the North. Another situation that has complicated is of course Turkey, with Deep Thought building a fleet as well as Lord Sauron building an additional fleet in Sevastopol, and of course the Shah still acting as a door stop for Lazarus. Will By-Tor manage to maintain the integrity of his Serbian army for another year? Lord Sauron (B.P.A. - Bordel Press Associates) Lord Sauron declared the winner of the 100th annual Monopoly-Con by default due to the fact that all players ahead of him were beheaded and thus wer not allowed to pass Go and collect $200.00 Bulgarian Rebels accept the aid of Lord Sauron Special Forces as the Shah continually brutalizes the civilians of that once peaceful nation. Word also has it that Lazarus, a known criminal mastermind. has embezzeled millions in clam sauce to aid the treacherous Shah in torturing the cute little country of Bulgaria. Come sail Lord Sauron Cruises. The Black Fleets will whine and dine (on) you and make you're vacation one you won't forget. ...(transmission from Bulgarian underground news network)... ... Shahite Death patrols are all around us. We've been hiding ourselves in this bunker for a week now holding out against his evil evilness against our once beautiful country. They've slaughtered a whole village beacsue they were caught aiding the rebels, now I fear, they will find us and kill us as well ! We only hope that the forces of Lord By-Tor or Lord Sauron can come to our rescue.... Recent Events News The forces of the Shah announce are glad to announce the acceptance of the unlimited proxy of Lazarus' army in Venice. Death is sworn against the vile forces of evil that have sprung up of late. Allah is not ammused. (You know who you are, beware!) Subject: Masada - Winter 1901 Status: R Wed Jun 13 08:14:38 MDT 1990 Spring 1902 is due on Monday the 18th. As always, let me know if I've made any mistakes. Now for the question of the day: >Can we have separate seasons (with no press) for retreats? >I hate conditional retreats. I'd much rather stick to 3 turns per season. Having 5 turns per season will make the game drag out much longer. If a particular situation arises where the retreats are quite complicated, I'll allow for a separate season without press (ie. just for the retreats). Italy: Looks like I'll have to deal with you... England ------- England to France: I hope that my actions spoke louder than words. I didn't move into the English channel, and I did support you. Does that allay fears? England to Germany: Just because I helped France, does not mean that I am out to get you. England to Turkey: The fishing off Norway seems to be pretty good. France ------ France -> England: Thanks for the support into Belgium. I must say that it was unexpected...you've got me pretty confused! Not unusual, I guess. Anyway, I apologize for my misinterpretation. BTW, I built a fleet in Brest, but not with the intention of taking the Channel or threatening England. I'd still like the Channel to remain a Demilitarized Zone! Your thoughts? France -> Germany: Your press leads me to believe that you're headed my way in a big hurry. Hopefully, my good intentions were exemplified by my *not* moving on Munich, when I had the perfect opportunity. France -> Italy: I believe a non-aggression pact between our two countries is in our collective best interests. Consider it done. Bonne chance in the east. France -> Russia: Are you sure you're in a position to threaten anyone?! France -> Turkey: I felt the need to respond to your extensive press of last fall. I've never seen such blathering in my life. The fact that you stabbed Russia after *you* proposed the DMZ is a bit slimey, but part of the game. Your attempts to molify the Czar with slobbering verbosity is far and away the worst part of the entire situation. This heart-rendering outpouring will undoubtedly be followed by continued stabs against Russia anyway....Yuck! Germany ------- The Foreign Minister says that we are glad to see that peace still rules the world. We admire you down there in the corner, your exquisite way of making ordinary military training exciting. You really know how to amuse yourself. Cut from Munich Daily Inquire: "The general public opinion was disappointment. Everybody was excited and expected much from the tourists on their journey. Officially, everyone in Bayern know: 'They think that they are too good for lederhhosen.' So who knows, what will this lead to?" We still hear from the naval crew in the North Sea that they will move. Perhaps Belgium will suit them when the beer is finished and they aren't allowed to move back to old England? After a short glance on Sweden, the navy has decided that they want to try fishing too. Is the norwegian army willing to help us to be with this apparently addictive hobby? Italy ----- Italy -> World: At the request of her citizens Italian forces have moved into Trieste to protect them from the Austrian army. Italy -> France: What about that DMZ? By the way, don't build fleets in Marseilles, OK? Italy -> Russia: Any suggestions for next spring? Italy -> Turkey: Check your calendar. It is 1901. NATO or the Warsaw Pact doesn't exist yet. Russia ------ Russia->Turkey: Smiling? You want me to be smiling? Give me something to smile about. I'm still willing to alliance with you, but you're going to have to give me clear indication that you're willing to ally on my part. Russia->Austria: Well, a lack of press in the first turn might be prudent, but a lack of press in the second round... Russia->Italy: Good call on Vienna. The convoy to Tunis was, well, interesting. Not what I would have done, but it does have its possibilities. (Personally, I would have risked no builds this turn just to keep A-H out of Greece, but I'd say we've got him in a tight spot anyway. Support me into Budapest and I'll help you into Serbia. Also, since Germany seems to be totally untrustworthy, I'd like to ask your assistance in advance for the contingency of his moving East. If he heads my way, please do what you can. Russia->Germany: Bad plan. Russia->England: Well, Germany looks to be trying to stir you and France against each other (and reading the press, I'd say that it's working). Try and preserve that alliance. Germany is too strong to be trifled with at the moment. Might I make a modest proposal and suggest moving NwS - Nor and Nor - Ska? This will help you gain Denmark which has been traditionally British. Also, I would appreciate your supporting me into Sweden this Spring. I make a damned good ally. Russia->France: Think really hard before listening to Germany about England. England has actively helped you (at the cost of his growth, I might add). Germany has done nothing for you other than refrain from starting immediate hostilities. Russia->Turkey (again): Did you know that I've NEVER seen anyone move to Syria in any Diplomacy game I've played? Russia->World: Goddamn, this game is FLYING. Anybody ever do a play by e-mail dip game that moved so fast? Turkey ------ Turkey -> All: Whew! Time to catch our breath after a busy first turn. I'm glad we get this extra season. The Turkish turtle stuck his head out in 1901. The coming year will see the turtle go back in his shell. The fleet building exercise is an attempt to guard my western and southern shores. Time to play defense while this mess gets sorted out. Turkey -> Russia: Based on last season's press, I guess you are not happy with me. I was a little surprised at my options - to ally or be killed. As stated before, I prefer to ally. You will note that I did not build armies- which are necessary to carry out a campaign in Russia. This would be a good turn to give Sevastopol back. Of course, settlement of our problem is up to you. If the country with a smile becomes intent on destroying its southern neighbor, it may get bogged down in a useless war while more severe trouble erupts elsewhere. Germany is, no doubt, displeased with your fall 1901 press, and England may turn their fishing expedition into operation Nordic Hammer. You may find it desirable to forgive my transgressions. Lord knows I don't want to be killed - especially not by someone who will have a blood-thirsty smile during every enjoyable moment of the heinous act. Turkey -> Austria: I'm glad to know that I have at least one friend in this world. Based on Russia's Vienna move and your fall 01 press, I assume that you want to ally with me. By the way, thanks for the press. I had been a little concerned about the lack of press and stated such. Hope my comments didn't upset you. Given our situation - my Russian entanglement and your uninvited visitors - I think it is best that we cooperate. Let me hold off the Russians in Moscow and Rumania while you head west in an effort to regain your home centers. If you can predict a turn in advance where you might need support, let me know by press. I may miss it otherwise. I will leave your centers alone and I hope that you will return the favor. Turkey -> Italy: I would like to cooperate (Russia would like to also). You and Russia appear to be better suited for cooperation at the moment. This is turning out to be a strange game. I expected you to ally with Austria and I with Russia. Both are still possible. Russia and I may be able to patch things up, and you could make Austria very happy by withdrawing. I would like to cooperate with you, but I'm not going to participate in the destruction of Austria. Our best area of cooperation is in the Mediterranean. I would prefer to see you not leave the Ionian enroute for my fair shores. I built fleets for defensive purposes, and I'd hate to see a Lepanto convoy into Syria. I think we can best cooperate by leaving each other alone. Russia, based on his desires for revenge, will propose a Russo-Italiano effort against Austria and me, but remember, Austria and I can sit back in this corner of the board and drag such an effort out. You and Russia have neighbors behind you. This kind of trouble is unnecessary. It is my sincere hope that there will be good tidings between our two countries, and that you won't get into wars that others would have you fight for them. Turkey -> England: You caught a fish! And it's a long one! Turkey -> Germany: Boy things sure are looking grim. Turkey -> France: You've cornered the Iberian markets. Belgium is at your mercy. You've gotten three builds. What are you going to do next? "I'm going to Disney World!" Oops. Wrong continent. Turkey -> All: The turtle retreats into his shell. Who will be his enemies? Not even the turtle knows! Stay tuned... Without the Greeks, we wouldn't have history. The Greeks invented three kinds of columns- Corinthian, Doric, and Ironic. They also had myths. A myth is a female moth. One myth says that the mother of Achilles dipped him in the River Stynx until he became intolerable. Achilles appears in "The Illiad", by Homer. Homer also wrote the "Oddity", in which Penelope was the last hardship that Ulysses endured on his journey. Actually, Homer was not written by Homer but by another man of that name. Socrates was a famous Greek teacher who went around giving people advice. They killed him. Socrates died from an overdose of wedlock.
